Just spreading the word about Aneesh Chaganty's brilliant feature debut "Searching." Suspenseful, cleverly crafted film with perhaps the best use of the 'screenlife' format which employs computer screens, the web & online communication to tell a story. Ingeniously edited with a strong emotional core & amazing performances. John Cho simply shines. A delight to see all the Asian American talent at the helm of a mainstream movie.

batsy Ooh, I was excited about this and even more so after seeing your review. I adore John Cho! 1y
Tanisha_A Think I should watch this over this weekend! 🤔 1y
rohit-sawant @batsy Love him, too! He was terrific in the second season of The Exorcist. Hope we get to see more of him in leading roles. And yes, @Tanisha_A! Hope you guys enjoy it 🙌🏻 1y

Centique I‘m so excited to see this and I love John Cho 😍. @batsy @rohit-sawant Have you guys seen the #starringjohncho movement which highlights the whitewashing in movies? There‘s a bit about it here http://starringjohncho.com 1y
rohit-sawant @Centique I had no idea about this! Thanks for sharing. Couldn't agree more with the post. As much as I like Scarlett Johansson, I remember going Really? 🙄 when I found out she'd playing the lead in Ghost in the Shell. Cho has such incredible range and we definitely need more films #starringjohncho in multi-dimensional roles instead of caricatures and token representation. 1y
Centique @rohit-sawant totally agree! I think those movie posters #starringjohncho are such a simple and brilliant way to put a big question mark over the whiteness most people are used to. (Also there can never be too much John Cho - I get twice the kick out of it cos I like him so much 😄) 1y
vivastory I watched this last night. Easily one of the cleverest mysteries I've seen in recent memory. The twist ending! Mind. Blown. 1y
rohit-sawant @vivastory Right?! And the film has so much heart. It also probably has one of the best opening sequences. It was just mesmerizing and sucked you right in. And how awesome was the music? Can't wait to watch this again. 1y
RaimeyGallant Adding it to my radar! 1y
rohit-sawant @RaimeyGallant Hope you check it out soon! 1y

1. I usually hate book to movie adaptations if I loved the book. So probably Gone Girl - I thought the movie was actually slightly better than the book which almost never happens! 😱
2. Closer - with Natalie Portman and Jude Law, not sure why exactly but I thought it was fantastic. I also love historical films like The Duchess - mostly because of the costumes 😍😍
3. Bring it On! Love Actually! Bridget Jones‘ Diary 😊
4. Candy 🍬

jhod I watched Closer with my parents - not a good idea!! 2y
Ingerella Bring it On would be a guilt pick for me too!! Also Drumline. I Secretly love that movie. 2y

umbrellagirl @jhod I saw it on Broadway with mine. Mum liked Ciaran Hinds so she chose it. Oh cringe! 2y
Christine11 @jhod @umbrellagirl Oh no ! It‘s definitely not a parent friendly film - I would be so mortified to watch it with my parents 😱 2y
Christine11 @Ingerella @Bostonmomx2 I never tire of watching bring it on - it‘s a classic 😊😂 I‘ve never heard of Drumline - I‘m going to have to look it up ! 💜 2y
Ingerella @Christine11 Drumline is basically Bring it On with a Marching band! 2y
Christine11 @Ingerella That sounds AMAZING! I‘m going to try and find it to watch 😊 2y

2. Not sure I have one favorite but have several I can watch endlessly. Remember the Titans, That Thing You Do, and maybe a couple more. Oh, julie and Julia.
3. Center Stage, Doc Hollywood.
4. Popcorn with tons of butter and I love it leftover the next day!

JoScho Doc Hollywood is great! I have never saved the leftover popcorn but that is brilliant. Do you put it in a ziplock to keep it fresh? 2y
Purrfectpages That Thing You Do ♥️ 2y

@Bostonmomx2 - I know I'm a little late with my contribution for #5movies, but after seeing @readsusieread's post, I couldn't help but join in ?
These are movies that I would gladly watch over and over again with "The Goonies" being my absolute, number 1 favorite.
There were a few others that I wanted to include - Big Fish, Stranger Than Fiction, Pleasantville, Love Actually, Practical Magic, The Fifth Element, so so many ?

Bostonmomx2 Pleasantville was so weirdly good!! 2y
Librariana @Bostonmomx2 - Right!?? I think I'm drawn to movies and books with that magical realism aspect... and definitely to romantic comedies 😄😊 2y
Librariana @Bostonmomx2 - I also should've added Clue, The Notebook, Notting Hill, Star Wars: The Force Awakens to the honorable mentions list! 2y
See All 7 Comments
Soubhiville The Goonies is my favorite too! (edited) 2y
Librariana @Soubhiville - Yay!! Goonies unite! 😊 It will always have a special place in my heart 💜 2y
readsusieread I can't believe I forgot about Stranger Than Fiction! I love that one so much! 2y
charissharpe I absolutely LOVE The Goonies! Amelie & Wall-E are beautiful movies too... And Fifth Element; "Multipass?" 2y

My picks for #5movies by @Bostonmomx2
🎬 Vampire's Kiss
🎬 The Fearless Vampire Killers
🎬 To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything
🎬 The Breakfast Club
🎬 There Will Be Blood
Pretty much the geeky vamp themes 🤓🦇

Gezemice Oh my, Vampire Killers is my all time favorite! Most people never even heard of it. So cool to find someone else who loves it! Fancy a re-watch? 2y
AlobelThee @Gezemice I got to see it last year again, on TCM. My dad had an old VHS recording of Vampire Killers, when I first watched it for the most part then 😄 the recorded tape ran out at the canon scene. 💣 2y
Bostonmomx2 So much love for the breakfast club!! 2y
Gezemice @AlobelThee lol! I had a VHS, too, but that was terrible, it was formatted for TV and half of it was missing. Then finally they made a DVD and I own one! 2y

1. Once Were Warriors
2. HP movies
4. Beaches
5. Whale Rider

Maleficent would have been on this movie if the prince hadn't shown up in the final scene. That was so against the heart of the story, but I do 💜💜💜 it other than that.

[DELETED] 3803335244 Beaches!!! Oh great one ❤️❤️❤️ 2y
Mamashep I do love that the prince was not the one to wake Aurora in Malificent! 2y
Redjewel_7734 @ForeverNerdy I know, Right?! 2y
See All 10 Comments
Redjewel_7734 @Mamashep Me too! That's why I was so disappointed he showed back up at the end? The whole point is that a woman's happily ever after isn't dependent on a boy/man. I just thought that last little cameo took away from the power of the story. 2y
UwannaPublishme Beaches! 😊🙌🏻 2y
readinginthedark I feel like they had to keep the prince in the movie, though, because he was part of the story. It was supposed to be "this is what really happened behind the scenes" without changing the bones of the original, I think. 2y
Redjewel_7734 @readinginthedark maybe, but I also think there is power in rejecting the old story and showing the truth that Prince Charming isn't necessary for happily ever after no matter what lies the fairy tales have been telling girls throughout the ages. 2y
readinginthedark Agreed. It's a delicate balance to find. 2y

My top five movies (I count Harry Potter as one😊)

⭐️The Great Race - Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk. Enough said.
⭐️The Harry Potter series - no better medicine when I'm sick

Tsubame @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Miyazaki (or generally Ghibli) movies are dreams turned into wonderful animation! Princess Mononoke is another of my favs. I tried Casshern, but the atmosphere was too dense and depressing for me and I didn't finish it tbh 😣 2y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk Yeah, that is a pretty accurate description of Casshern! Visually stunning though! 2y

Five movies I love - and can (and most definitely do) watch over and over again. I also feel the need to point out that I also have the soundtracks/scores for all five. 😁

I could also add: The Ref, The Princess Bride, Go!, Pride & Prejudice, and so many more...

"5 movies you love and can and do watch over and over" (Pictured are the movies we've unpacked so far.) I had a really hard time narrowing this down, so I tried to pick the five I've re-watched the most in the last year that aren't based on books (as far as I know), in no particular order:
1. Serenity
2. Away We Go
3. Domino
4. The Dark Crystal
5. Fifth Element

Honorable mention: EVERYTHING this was so hard!!! ? #5movies

Avanders Ooh some good ones! I especially love Serenity and The Fifth Element! 2y
Crystalblu Great picks!!! I love all these movies! And Away We Go is one of my all time favorite romantic movies! 2y
becausetrains Why have I seen Serenity but not Firefly 😢💫🚀 2y

readinginthedark @Avanders I know! Two of the best sci-fi action movies! 😊 2y
readinginthedark @Crystalblu Isn't it amazing? Most people I talk to haven't seen it. 😕 2y
readinginthedark @becausetrains I actually saw Serenity first, when it first came out in theatres. But you can remedy not seeing Firefly now! It's only one season, so it won't take long, and your life will be forever changed. Definitely my favorite TV series of all time. Maybe your library has it? 2y
Bostonmomx2 👍👍 2y
EchoLogical Serenity! 2y
Gezemice The Fifth Element is one of my guilty pleasures. So fun! 2y
readinginthedark @Gezemice It's so amazing. Don't feel guilty! Embrace it! 😉 2y

It was eating me up that I didn‘t mention some other favorite movies and TV shows for #meetthelittens, so hope you guys don‘t mind this extended post! Some of these are recent favs, some I‘ve loved growing up. I‘m mainly doing it so they‘ll stop bugging me! Listing the titles in the comments.

rohit-sawant 10 Cloverfield Lane, Kubo and the Two Strings, Les Revenant, Batman TAS, Wait Until Dark, Inception, The Kettering Incident, Ajin, One Punch Man, Edward Scissorhands, Tell Tale, Secret Window, Persona, Luke Cage, True Detective, Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Unbreakable, Split, Trumbo, The Neon Demon, Westworld, Breakfast at Tiffany‘s, Singin‘ in the Rain. 3y
vivastory Excellent list! So many great films/series. Have you watched other Bergman films? 3y
LeahBergen Les Revenant!!! ❤️❤️ 3y
See All 15 Comments
rohit-sawant @vivastory Thanks so much! And not many, just The Seventh Seal, Hour of the Wolf and Through a Glass Darkly. 3y
vivastory @rohit-sawant Those 3 are my favorites by him. Also, I only watched the first season of Les Revenant but i loved it. Have you ever watched the remake? 3y
rohit-sawant @vivastory Normally I would have, but when I saw the trailer for it, something about it didn‘t appeal to me in the least, and the original was still fresh in my mind and I wanted to keep that story and those characters just the way they are, if that makes sense. 3y
vivastory @rohit-sawant Have you seen "Valhalla Rising"? It is by the director of "Neon Demon" & stars M. Mikelsen. It is a challenging film, but i think you'd like it. Speaking of Mikelsen, another great film with him is "Flame & Citron." Highly recommend. 3y
vivastory @rohit-sawant It completely makes sense. I tend to avoid remakes of flawless films, even if the director of the remake is a favorite of mine (ie-David Fincher's remake of Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo) 3y
rohit-sawant @vivastory Ah, Flame and Citron, I remember you mentioned this last time as well! Really need to watch that. And NWR and Mads, heck, how did that slip past me?! I‘ll get on that soon as I can. 3y
Cinfhen Great graphics 3y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk You, sir, have good taste in cinema. Going to second @vivastory Flame & Citron and Valhalla Rising are both intense and amazing. 3y
rohit-sawant @Cinfhen Thanks a lot! 3y
rohit-sawant @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Thank you so much! And can‘t wait to check out both those films! 3y
batsy Fantastic. So cool to see this. And that's why I couldn't do the Meet post, I can't seem to narrow it down 😂 Thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to watch Trumbo! 3y
rohit-sawant @batsy Of course! And yes, it‘s so hard to narrow it down. Even now I‘m kicking myself for letting a few slip by (Mike Flanagan‘s Hush, for instance). You'll love Trumbo! I ended up watching it twice. 3y
