This was okay. Many interesting ideas about time travel and how you would view the time before. I thought there were some ideas not explored enough (I kept thinking about smells which he barely mentioned). It is interesting to read something written 50 years ago that is a time travel book , you have to "travel" back to the 70s to think about what he would know and how different another 80 years would be.
Kindred ruined me for these types ?

I don't remember why I bought this book. I put it on my short list for reading this year. The copy I have is illustrated, lots of (not great?) sketches and some photos from 1880s New York.

I do find the idea of faces being more interesting in the past true and something to ponder that a writer in 1970 had observed this - I hear it called iPhone face now, people whose faces only fit in this time.

Have had this old copy on my shelf a long time. I‘d heard that it was one of the earlier time travel classics and I finally gave it a read. Back then maybe it was novel for its time (1970), but I admit I was underwhelmed. Maybe more appealing to those who are very familiar with or live in NYC. I found it overly detailed and a bit of a slog.

These 2 memes came to my mind while reading 😂 I really enjoyed this book, the descriptions & actual pictures from NYC were SO NEAT! I think this would be an excellent buddy read or Bookclub book because there would be a lot to discuss 🤓 Also, I would recommend buying a used copy or keep sticky notes handy - there were a few things that I had to refer back to. I can‘t wait for my library hold on the sequel to come in, more to come from Si 😊👍

Jack Finney is such a wonderful writer. His research is meticulous, and he brings the past alive in marvelous detail. His MC Sy Morley embodies the excitement and adventure of time travel. All Finney‘s books and stories are great fun, and this one takes the reader to NYC in 1882. #LetterT #alphabetgame @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

#SeptemberSenses day14 #TimeorTiming I read this years ago,and remember loving it , hey , when Stephen King says it‘s “THE great time travel story.”Attention must be paid.Finney wrote a sequel much later with hints there might be a third book, unfortunately passed away before he could write it.

We are living through a truly historic moment. We will look back and remember what it was like to like through the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Stayed up past midnight to finish this. MC is recruited by a government agency to participate in a time travel project. Thus, he travels back to New York City in 1882. Much of this novel focuses on that place and era in detail (with illustrations/photos throughout); so those without an interest in old NYC may not find this as engaging as I did. I have the sequel TBR.

Any time travel recs? I‘ve already read The Time Traveler‘s Wife and 11/22/63.

Breakfast and coffee with this time travel novel. So far it‘s good.

This 1970s classic was the perfect combination of history, adventure and time-traveling romance. I loved all the descriptions of 1882 New York.

These are some of my favorite time-travel books:
Jack Finney wrote book 1 and book 2 about New York in the 1880‘s. Very interesting about a man who travels back. Unique picture of New York from that time.

The Time Travelers Wife is a nice romantic story.

11/22/63 is about a man who travels back to Kennedy Assassination.

I had a long day today, which included saying goodbye to my bf for the next two weeks, so I treated myself to a visit to the bookstore. I used my trade credit and got the tagged book for $3.99.

This was a big ol‘ Nope for me. I spent the whole novel bored. It seemed like an excuse for Finney to write about his love affair with the nostalgia of late 19th century New York. Whatever pretense of a plot got so encased in the description of the city that it could hardly be considered a relevant driver of the story. And the handling of time traveling in the past seemed super sloppy; it drove me nuts. #catsoflitsy

I really enjoyed this book. Written the year I was born, it gave me insight into what the world was like back then. Along with time travel comes moral dilemmas and I like the way this book handled it. I also loved hearing about New York in 1880. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day3 #adventrecommends. One of my favorite time travel books is Time and Again by Jack Finney. Read it. You‘ll enjoy it.

Life has been a little frantic lately so maybe that‘s why, when this beautiful package from @Louise arrived, I couldn‘t open it. It spoke of a generosity of time and spirit that I couldn‘t do justice to. So it sat on my shelf for two weeks until today, I found some breathing space. Every bit of this made me smile. Thank you so much Louise, I‘ll be wearing the elephant scarfs to work tomorrow and it will make me smile all day long.

I love #timetravel books in general, but I read this one when I was in high school, and it has been a favorite ever since. Finney‘s conception of how time travel might work, and the challenges of it, are intriguing. I hate that it took him so long to write a sequel, and that he died shortly after the sequel came out. #JulyInBooks18

Jack Finney's descriptions of NY of the 1880s are captivating, the illustrations and photographs add to the pleasure of reading the story which slowly ramps up the tension as events are set in motion that have a momentous impact on the characters, and how a small seemingly insignificant event can have a life changing effect. An exciting and worthy addition to the time travel canon, if you love time travel books read this you won't be disappointed.

I‘ve read this book at least 3 times and although it is the great story and the descriptions of NY of 1880s I love, the illustrations and photographs bring the story to life.

Just started a new temporary job and my anxiety means I find it difficult to concentrate so thought I‘d revisit an oldie but goodie 😊

#AugustGrrrl #day12 #TimeAfterTime This is a classic novel that I got after becoming obsessed with NY, Central Park & the Dakota Building a few years ago. It's a twisty turny time travel novel involving government experiments, hypnosis, time travel & The Dakota building in Manhattan. It's so hard to describe, if you like convoluted stories with a bit of spy action thrown in plus time travel, give it a read.

This book was fine. It was a very interesting concept. But the details were a bit hard to follow. Overall I liked it, but I won't read any more in the series.
