I‘ve been working 12 hour days on deadline this week so I haven‘t had much time for reading and Litsy. But that‘s done so now I‘m back!

In anticipation of our #readinthenewyearswap going live tomorrow, here are my reading goals for the new year! Have you started thinking on your goals yet? How would you like your reading to change (or stay the same!) in the new year?

Super excited to have a swap around reading and bookish goals! Sign ups open Friday! This is open to everyone with three levels of participation . Hope you will join us!
#readinthenewyearswap

Shadowfat What do you mean by 3 levels of participation? 1w
Chrissyreadit @Shadowfat a small package- envelope size 1 book 1or two items, a medium box the equivalent of medium priority in the states, or a large box the equivalent of large priority box in states. 1w
Shadowfat Ah ok, I was thinking of that differently, that makes a lot more sense then what I was thinking! Thanks! 1w

Mine are blankets, candles, coffee, bookmarks, stickies, pens, pencils and reading lights and time.

Please feel free to comment or copy and share 🧡🧡

Also would anyone be interested in a swap for bookish resolutions/new year new book goals?

TheBookAddict I love bookmarks and t-shirts the most! Well, I use them the most. What would the swap entail? Just a book that we‘d like to read in 2020? 2w
Amiable What would the swap entail? 2w
Amiable @TheBookAddict So funny—we posted the same question simultaneously! 😀 2w
See All 25 Comments
TheBookAddict @Amiable 😆 ✋🏽 great minds think alike! 2w
Megabooks Bookmarks, bookish tees! 2w
Chrissyreadit @TheBookAddict @Amiable not to be complicated- but in my mind I was thinking a book or two and an item or two that could be goal related or if someone listens to books a puzzle, or coloring book and crayons with a snack or drink- I‘m open to ideas. 2w
BookNAround Bookmarks, blankets, and book totes. The swap sounds interesting. I‘ll be curious to see what it entails. 2w
MeganAnn I was literally just thinking on ideas for a new year type swap. The one I was playing around with was sending a favorite book you read in the last year with a self care item. Not sure if I‘d have time to organize something myself though so maybe it might spark your ideas?! 2w
Chrissyreadit @MeganAnn I like that idea too. I‘d be happy to help if you do want to organize that one. I love self care. I‘m just looking for a fun way to start the new year. (edited) 2w
MeganAnn @Chrissyreadit if you like the idea feel free to take it and run with it! Or if you want to do a cohosted kind of thing I‘d be up for that as well. I was thinking it would be a fun way to start the new year as well 😊🎉📚 2w
Chrissyreadit @MeganAnn email me and let‘s see if co hosting could work- it would be easier I think. Chrissyreadit@gmail.com 2w
TheBookAddict That sounds doable. 2 book and 2 items related to the person‘s New Years goals. 2w
MeganAnn @Chrissyreadit email sent!! 🎉 2w
mabell Great accouterments! I would include my fake fire that I ordered from amazon because we can‘t make fires without the house smelling for weeks 🤪 But it puts out a nice glow and a little heat! And I definitely agree with “time” 2w
Chrissyreadit @mabell which one did you get? And does it use a plug? A regular plug or special outlet? I wanted one for our living room but thought we needed a special outlet for it. 2w
mabell @Chrissyreadit I‘ll email you the details! It uses a regular plug, but I got an appliance grade extension cord. 2w
Chrissyreadit @mabell thank you!! 2w
Amiable @MeganAnn @chrissyreadit These ideas sound fun! 2w
Avanders @mabell I also would like to hear about this fake fire.... 😁 Leathy18 at gmail? 😁😁 2w
mabell @Avanders Will do! I haven‘t sent the email yet to @Chrissyreadit . I‘m going to take a video this morning, so you two get the full effect 😂 2w
Avanders @mabell nice! 👏🏽👏🏽😁 2w
Avanders @mabell got it — and thank you for the vid too!! We have a “working” fireplace in our house... but the prior owner only halfway converted it and it is presently rather unsafe to use w toddler in house. So we‘ve never used it since we moved it and I miss my reading fire!! ♥️♥️ 2w
Chrissyreadit @mabell I love it! I need to see how it could work in my living room. We have a decorative mantle on a wall. 2w
mabell @Chrissyreadit @Avanders Good luck! Let me know what you what you decide to do! I‘m glad you share my cozy fire interest. 😊 1w

My reading stats for last week. I surpassed my goal of 7 total hours for the week (an hour a day average) and I finished a book. I still have to make up for the three weeks that I didn‘t read at all after my dad died. I have 11 more books to go to meet my yearly goal, and 12 weeks to do it. That‘s going to take some extra effort - I typically only read about 3 books a month.

Day 1 - #ReadingGoals #SelfImprovementSept

These are my goals for 2019. I have completed 65% of reading 200 books.

In regards to my other challenge of reading 100 years of mystery books published each year, I am behind. I have read about 35 books so I need to get busy on that. May have to carry over this challenge into 2020.

Last Weeks‘s stats. The #reversereadathon certainly helped get my numbers up! 11 of the hours here are from the Dewey‘s Readathon. My reading week would have been terrible without it!

AkashaVampie I just downloaded Bookly. How does it work exactly? Do you have to tell it when you start reading and when you stop? Was wondering how the time part works 3mo
Elizabeth2 @AkashaVampie yes. You add a book to “My Books” and then hit the button for “Start Reading” it times each reading session. Once you‘ve started the book, the button changes to “Continue Reading.” You can also hit a “+” button to add a reading session if you didn‘t use the timer. That function allows you to add the number of pages read, time and date. I love my Bookly app! It has really helped me focus on and develop my reading goals. 3mo
Elizabeth2 @AkashaVampie you can pause the reading session too, and then resume when you pick the book back up. When your reading session is over, you hit “Stop” and record the page you reached. It then calculates your reading speed and how long it will take you to finish the book. It stores your stats for total time read, pages read, etc, indefinitely (as far as I can tell). I can see how many pages and mins I‘ve read since I started using the app. 3mo
AkashaVampie @Elizabeth2 thank u sweetie! I will definitely have to give it a try! 3mo

I‘m using Bookly to track how much time I spend reading and to have some basic stats. The peaks tend to be weekends. 😮

DGRachel The only problem I have with Bookly (and with time trackers in general) is that I actually read less because I wait to pick up my book until I have my phone handy. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 6mo
Kathrin Nice work! I have installed the app... but I can‘t get into it. 6mo
jpmcwisemorgan @DGRachel You can put it in later. I didn‘t know that for awhile but that‘s what I‘ve been doing when I‘m not at home or just want to read without starting and stopping the timer. @Kathrin It‘s better, I think, to not use the timer but to input the time and amount read. It‘s less distracting. 6mo
See All 6 Comments
DGRachel @jpmcwisemorgan I do that a lot, too, especially if I‘m at work and reading at lunch. I know my reading speed is slowed by distractions so I enter the page count and guesstimate the time based on my average reading speed. 6mo

I took a page from @silentrequiem 's book to think about and write down manageable monthly as well as ongoing #readinggoals for 2019. I'd love to be like so many of you admirable Littens and read more than 9 books a month, but with a peculiar work schedule and typical time constraints, I'll probably, as she so well phrased it, allow for books to "count for more than one category". Wish me luck! ???

2019 Bookish Goals 📚

1. Read at least 30 books from my own shelves.
2. Get rid of one big bookcase by the end of the year.
3. Read a few books on my nonfiction Reading the States list.
4. Read at least two Shakespeare plays.
5. Read at least 100 books.
6. Less TV & social media, more reading!

Mitch Good intentions! I‘m always working out how to squeeze more bookcases in rather than get rid of them! You‘re very disciplined ! Good luck! 11mo

Here they are: my #2019ReadingGoals

My goal is always to read a book a week, that way I can read the books I want. Which is way I‘m excited to find out how four reading challenges will turn out. I didn‘t do anyone 2018, because I didn‘t finish the one I signed up for in 2017.

Sweettartlaura If you want to focus on books you own, add in Mount TBR 🙂. There are several levels of it. Head over to Goodreads‘ Groups, search for Mount TBR 2019 for the details, & pick a level to aim for. Good luck! 11mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awesome goals!!! Love your graphic!! ❣️ 11mo

AnneCecilie @Sweettartlaura thank you for the tip. Will I have to be a member of Goodreads to participate in that challenge? 10mo
Sweettartlaura Not officially 🙂. They are a group on Goodreads, where people log their progress & support each other. They also have set levels. 12 books = 1 mountain; 24 the next; and so on, up to 150 = Mt. Olympus. But you can make your own challenge & goals if you prefer. Happy reading 📚 10mo

This time last year I set myself a modest goal of 30 books. I was worried I wouldn't achieve a book a week and thought 30 was realistic. I've always been a reader, but it was a solo, hidden activity.

Then I started listening to podcasts about books and reading. Then I joined a book club. Then I found Litsy. And I tripled my goal!

This year I'm aiming for 100 books and I'm doing three reading challenges. Bring it on!!

Love Litsy ❤

greenhairdontcare That‘s amazing! I went for 60 & only got 24. I found returning to work made it a lot harder to find time. 11mo
Sarz @tastemeimemo 24 is fantastic, especially with returning to work and caring for a little one! Do you include the comics that you read? I really found they boosted my total. 11mo
greenhairdontcare @Sarz I didn‘t read any comics last year. ☹️ I‘ve stopped with single issues but it‘s too expensive but I have a stack of graphic novels & volumes to read, when I get time! 11mo

OK, I‘ve accepted that I‘m not going to make my goal of 75, but I came closer than I have in years at 68! I‘m excited about that. So now, since I plan to #Readinthenewyear with @hermyknee , I just have the monumental decision of what book to choose to usher 2018 out and 2019 in. No pressure! Should it be The Gormenghast Trilogy, The Fireman, Middlesex, The Outsider, or the latest by Tana French or John Sandford? At least I‘ve narrowed it down!😁

I'm so happy because my reading goal this year was to read 52 books and I ended with 71 books read. This is to relax myself not have a pressure of how many books a read per year. With that been said, my 2019 reading goal will be I don't know 53 or 55 books. However, my real goal will be to read more books from those received in swaps. This year I only read 7 and 12 were from box subscriptions. In honor to my Litsy swappers that will be goal📚😘

Not as impressive as many other Littens‘ reading goals, but I DID IT! I met my reading goal for the year! Which means that I‘ll probably exceed my goal, because I think I‘ll finish at least one more book this year. I was not where I needed to be at the end of the summer, so I kicked my reading into high gear and have been reading so much more in the last few months. Hoping to continue that trend in 2019 and up my reading goal! 😁📚

I‘ll probably get to 70 for the year. Not bad considering the slump I‘ve been in. Looking forward to more reading, book talks and swaps, and of course #Litsy in 2019! 📚❤️🎉

Excited to read this- even though I can‘t keep up with challenges ever. https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/Reading-Challenge-2019-45450968?utm_campa...

Samplergal I only have one more to complete the 2018 challenge and I‘ll never finish. It‘s fun to try. 12mo
Joanne1 I never keep up with them either. 12mo
Birdsong28 Yess!!! I might actually complete this!!! I have done majority of the prompts but there will be a few missing when 2019 rolls around. Thanks for sharing. 😀📚📖 12mo

Chrissyreadit Wow @Samplergal 1 more is impressive! Why do you think you won‘t complete it? 12mo
Chrissyreadit @Birdsong28 I always have good intentions- this one looks possible to me too! 12mo
Chrissyreadit @Joann1 I‘m almost tempted to organize a swap around reading challenges so I can feel more accomplished about trying. 🤣 12mo

YAYYYYY I DID IT! I debated making it higher, but I figured I would complete my original goal, and see how many more books I‘ll read the rest of the year; I did reach a few of my goals for this year as well, such as:
* Reading some OwlCrate, Fairyloot, and Uppercase books
* Reading some YA series that I‘ve been pushing off
* Reading some chunksters
-Overall, I‘m happy😊📚📚📚 #readinggoals2018

bookandcat Also I don't raise my goal either, Goodreads will calculate your percentage at a number above 100% which is fun (I'm at over 200% now 😂) 1y

I‘m already so far behind on my challenges and have been slacking on reading more diversely so I created an April tbr for my physical copies of books. Unfortunately most of my books are in boxes, but I think this is a decent stack.

#tbr #goals #Apriltbr

Mdargusch Very ambitious! I sure love the feeling of reading books that I‘ve owned for months/years. 😁 2y
Rcoco The sympathizers was beautifully written but gut-wrenching at times 2y
Kristy_K @Mdargusch Me too! Makes me feel accomplished. 2y
Kristy_K @Rcoco Thats what I‘ve heard! I‘m excited to dive into it. 2y
