A fascinating book, it has cured me of ever wanting another cat, as they are not only vicious killers, but also carry an extremely scary disease who effects are just beginning to be understood. Cats are adorable and the perfect companion for humanity as we raze across the planet destroying the animal kingdom as we go.
4/5 stars, this book completely changed my understanding of cats and their role in human history, and the history of the planet.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I‘m a bit late due to a lot going on, but must show you all the goodies my amazing #litsypenpal sent me. I even got a couple books today as an extra treat because she‘s just that awesome! Thank you a million times over @Litlady for the magnets, Christmas convo cards (that are handy), hot chocolate, a balsam candle that smells divine, and all these great books. She‘s got the best taste! So grateful ❤️
I listened to this on audio (my first audiobook of 2021) and it was great! Interesting to learn about the history of cats and how they‘ve adapted over the years.
I‘m counting this to fulfill the #hear/here prompt for #booked2021
@4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen
I‘ve had this one for a while. Finally taking the plunge. The cartoon seemed appropriate somehow! 😂🐈
An interesting look at the history, biology, and science of house cats that attempts to explain why we let them live with us even though they offer no practical benefit to humans besides cuteness. Or is it more that they let US live with THEM? 🧐
Another long tbr-lister on sale today.
Feeling a bit sick and my cat is taking advantage. #catsofLitsy #cuddlebug
Tacy,my napping model. An Interesting read on how cats came to be our companions.Ms Tucker writes in an entertaining style and covers a wide range of cat facts. She covers cat shows and internet obsessions plus daily life with a pet cat.She doesn‘t shy away from difficult topics like the struggles of abandoned or feral cats and their effect on bird populations.Other topics include the ancient Egyptians obsession with cats and Hello Kitty fandom.
@Clwojick Crosby cares not that I am trying to Litsy and watch baseball at the same time.Hugs to you and Oscar, our furry friends definitely have our hearts and are family.
My friend went Seattle and brought me all these things from Elliott Bay Book Company! I love them ! Wish she could have brought their weather too!
We‘re all watching together. The #manpanion is thrilled.
Tink! My kitty loves to be my Book model. #scenesfromabook #familypet #catsoflitsy
Finish one, start another IMMEDIATELY.
Though this book was a lot slower than I'd like, it has vivid prose and lots of #catfacts. Tucker is a loving cat owner herself, but she does take a critical eye to cats‘ role in our lives and our planet that may make cat fans defensive.

Still learning all sorts of weird #catfacts and facts about our relationship with cats!
#TBRtemptation post 1! From back alleys to bedrooms to YouTube, cats rule our hearts. How did they come to do so? They don't offer practical benefits like dogs do. Tucker asks breeders, activists, and scientists. She visits places from archaeology labs to Florida's wilds. Sounds like a great investigation! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
Despite being a lifelong "dog person", I really liked this audiobook! Tucker discusses the anthropology, science and culture behind humanity's relationship with cats. She explains the phenomenon of social media cats, and why dogs haven't had the same effect on the digital world. The parts about feral cats and how cats look like human babies were especially interesting.
Overdrive is being picky and won't download this audiobook, so I'm giving #Libby a try. I'm a dog person, but I'm a sucker for microhistory and anthropology. So far, this is touching on both!
". . . to be perfectly honest, mostly they ate us."
The upside of insomnia.
Etailers must love the beginning of the semester . . . ❤️📚
1. Hannah is in an oddly affectionate mood & sitting on my lap. 2. The Court of Wings & Ruin 3. Grocery shopping, pool, & #24in48 4. It's 10:30 PM & the heat index is 92F. So hot as hell? 5. Raising Cane's for the boy & Rosa's Cafe for me. Our post basketball game routine. #friYAYintro #catsoflitsy
#Talulah-Belle Can't even wait until it's out of bag! The #BookLove is strong with this one. #CatsOfLitsy #BookLovingCat
This was really interesting. I'm not sure why but I was expecting something light and cute. She took a more scientific approach then I expected. I learned some new things but I will always believe that my cats love me back. 😻😻
I got a new kitten today! She is so cute and small😻. But I also have an older cat who is having none of this. I'm worried about leaving them alone all day together when I'm at work. I'm thinking about putting one of them in my bedroom to keep them separate at least until I get the kittens stiches removed. #littenkitten
Any suggestions??
I hope so!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖 #catsoflitsy #yesplease 😻😻😻
• i know some people truly hate cats and prefer dogs. but i have discovered that i'm now a cat person. i love cats (mine in particular) and i really shouldn't say how much i'm looking forward to reading this book. but i'm looking forward to it a lot because cats are the best. •

❤️ this tweet! So very true of my 🦁 in the living room.
So, I told my mom that I shared the purple chair of royalty with you guys, and that you all loved it. Her exact response? "Well, tell your reader friends to hold on to their pages because I found a whole mother trucking living room." I then received this picture. So, I present you with the mother trucking purple room of royalty ?
Busy day running around doing errands and getting ready for a very early flight for a work trip tomorrow, but I did have time to pick this book up and now Im reading it while hanging out with these two 😻
This shouldn't be a #slowread for me, because it's a subject I'm interested in, but every time I start reading it, I switch to something else. Maybe it's the guilt associated with having requested it from #Netgalley so long ago. 😕 #readjanuary
I really liked this - very readable & interesting. If you like Mary Roach, or want to ease into nonfiction, it's worth checking out.
I'm just reading this out of passing interest, not because I caught myself apologizing to Randy Mewman for sleeping on the wrong side of the bed the other night. Completely unrelated.
This pop science book is fascinating and highly recommended for anyone interested in animal domestication and specifically cats. It certainly has made me look at my boys a bit differently. Easy-to-read writing with a sense of humor, Tucker delves into the history of animal domestication, evolution, social behavior, internet memes, animal rights groups, ecological issues. There is some filler but at 190 pages, it's still a short book.
Working on finishing my first book of the year. Also a square on bingo (recommended by Mr. Z). I also realized that I could complete the A to Z challenge completely from my own books, except for x,y,z. Impressive.
#LitsyReadingChallenge #LitsyAtoZ
Watching "The Lion in the Living Room" on Netflix with my cat, Kailey ? ??who also seems to be learning a lot about herself ? Happy New Year ? Littens! #catsoflitsy
My domestic lion, Toby, does not want me to read right now. So I Litsy instead.
Stayed up late starting this one. I'm really glad Mr. Z read it first because I kept wanting to read quotes out loud to him, even after he fell asleep. 😆 This is a fascinating and very readable book, written by a Smithsonian magazine writer (which we subscribe to as well, highly recommended).
#TBRtemptation post! Look at this. Look at this cover--how can you resist this little guy? He's so cuuute. This isn't too long of a read, but it doesn't seem to be all fluff either. Skimming through this, it appears to be quite the serious discussion on the history of feline domesticity, current topics regarding cats--including problems they seem to pose--& even how they fit into literature & our broader culture. I want! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook
"Wild and tame, home bound and footloose, these cats increasingly preside over nature and culture, the concrete jungles and the real ones beyond. They have seized control of cities, continents, even cyberspace. In many ways, they rule us." Being owned by four of the little furry souls, I can relate. This just arrived and I'm just staring it. Good read for a rainy night.
