pickFantastic first book in the series where the victims are attacked in a horrific way, and Tom Thorne has to find his way through the challenging case. We also meet his long time friend and pathologist with unique appearance, Phil Hendrix. Exciting, pacey, filled with rich characters.
Here is my starting stack for my 2022 #ShelfofShame challenge. These are all the books on my physical shelf that I have started, but put down without finishing for one reason or another. They‘re all books that I still have interest in, and would like to finish, however if I still haven‘t finished them by the end of 2022, then I have to unhaul them.
If I make it through these books, I‘ll make a list of my kindle books. ⭐️
pickThis was one of three books I managed to read for #NovelNovember. I liked it but I wasn‘t entranced by it. Still, I‘ve got the second one stacked, so we‘ll see. It‘s the first in a series, and I do like the main detective a lot. The writing is sharp and the mystery was unique. Overall an engrossing read. Another book down for #BookSpinBingo!

With the exception of Harry Bosch and Nathan Cody and a few pairings, my detectives lately have been almost entirely female so I plucked this from my TOWERING stack of “first in a series.” I quite enjoyed it although there were some formatting issues with the e-book that made the narrative shifts somewhat confusing at times 👇🏼
pickI enjoy British police procedurals, and I am pleased to have found this series. Tom Thorne, the detective, isn‘t always likable, but he is interesting. The identity of the serial killer was not difficult to determine, but the mystery seemed secondary to the interaction of the characters. This is not for the squeamish. Billingham describes all of the details with gritty realism. The narrator is excellent. I am looking forward to the next one.
I tried to get a small nap in before the start of both #SummersEndReadathon ➕ #24B4Monday in hopes of staying up late to get a good start to my goal. However, like every other time I‘m excited for something, I simply can‘t sleep. UNLIKE this sweet boy, Totem, who can sleep in ANY situation.
Honestly, guys! How cute is he? He can‘t even keep his eyes open. ♥️

Just finished a very serious book ( A Cupboard Full of Coats) And was about to embark on There There by Tommy Orange... but I‘m taking a detour through what I‘m hoping will be an easier read first. The first in a series I just saw ... thanks to @andrew61
I‘m going to head to bed soon. Been up since about 4:45 am PT for the 5 am PT start for the #readathon. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night and I have to be at work at 10 am tomorrow (I took last weekend off; I work as a dishwasher). Also had a birthday party tonight for a friend. I got two books completed in the 9 hours I read (read from 5 am until about 2 pm PT).

Have you read Mark Billingham? He has written some stand alone books and the ones featuring Detective Tom Thorne, the tagged book is the first in the series. There‘re also tv mini series made (I‘ve watched two episodes, they‘re good).
The stories are rather dark, though.

I love way too many- but these are some of my favourite.
Detective Inspector Tom Thorne has to deal with lots of criminals with twisted minds. A great crime series from the former actor, television writer and stand-up comedian who has won the Crime Novel Of The Year Award as well as the Sherlock Award for Best British Detective and been nominated for seven CWA Daggers.

Can't sleep. But can't really read either. Neighbor kid is throwing a huge rager and one party guest has already knocked down our mailbox, which flew into my husbands car and put a huge dent in the drivers side door. He's got to be up in 2 hours for work. Thing 2 just got home from her job and thing 1 is sick. 👇

Have to admit I'm struggling my way through this one. I find I'm not always sure which characters perspective I am reading from when it changes suddenly in a chapter.
However I do like the concept and the killer is chilling with his detached attitude.
As the first novel I think perhaps the writing gets better the more the books go on, I will continue to muddle through this one... #crimefiction #sleepyhead #markbillingham #kobo #cosywinternights
Today's final number. I slept in this morning and likely will again tomorrow, which makes it unlikely I'll actually get in #24in48. Went back to bed at 6:00 AM & slept until after 9:00--still not sure I am ready to face the day. 😆😴 Max says no more playing on the tablet--it's past time to get up and do something!
