#top24of24

Here are my favourites of this year - probably quite similar to a lot of other Littens‘ lists! 🤪 There‘s a fair few from prize lists and, of course, many recommended (or even gifted) by Litsy friends.

I think the top 17/18 were easy but there were a few vying for those last few spots. Those that just missed out included Lula Dean, The Wedding People, Wolf at the Table, The Collected Regrets of Clover and Notes on an Execution.

kspenmoll So many for me to read! Thanks! 20h
ChaoticMissAdventures Greta and Margo are real stand outs this year! I loved them both. I am reading Martyr! now and cannot make myself make a best of list yet. What if I read my favorite book ever this week? 😂 20h
AmyG Love your list! It showed me all the books I still need to read! 🤣😳 19h
See All 11 Comments
AmyG @ChaoticMissAdventures Ha! That is SO true. Last year I read North Woods at the very end of the year and waited until 1/1 to finish it. It was one of may most favorite books of 2024 but I didn‘t want to screw up my 2023 picks. 🤣 19h
ChaoticMissAdventures @AmyG this is so relatable!! 19h
squirrelbrain I was a bit worried about that @ChaoticMissAdventures but, although I‘m enjoying the 4 😳 books I‘m reading now, none of them are ‘best of‘ material. However, I‘ll bear your trick in mind @AmyG 🤪 19h
TrishB We have 6 the same currently! Off to look at some and some where on my list last year 😁 17h
BarbaraBB Such an incredible list! I didn‘t realize we had SUCH a similar taste. I must read the ones I haven‘t yet! 💝 16h
squirrelbrain 6 the same isn‘t bad going! @TrishB 16h
squirrelbrain I think we have very similar taste @BarbaraBB - and we learn off each other about the best books all the time! 16h
TrishB I‘ve put another 5 on my to buy list! I have a big list for after Christmas 😁 always good to have one ready. 15h

This is my #top24of24! I was a bit stingier with the 5⭐️ this year, and only 8 received that (upper left quadrant plus Dead Bastards and Cue the Sun in bottom right). The rest are 4.75⭐️ and 4.5⭐️. Nine of these are nonfiction, which is about normal and pretty close to my reading NF/F split. Can‘t wait to see even more of these as the year winds up! 👏🏻📚

squirrelbrain Great list! ❤️ 4d
MallenNC I really liked Margot, Small and the Mighty, and The Husbands. The only other one I‘ve read is The Wedding People, which I liked but the audiobook didn‘t completely work for me. I think I should have read it. I still need to get to James and Cue the Sun. They‘ve been on my TBR. (edited) 4d
Deblovestoread Fantastic list! Screenshot for TBR explosion 📚 4d
See All 22 Comments
AmyG I still have a few of these to read. Great list…..but then, I expect nothing less. 🙌🏻 Ha! Yes @Deblovestoread (edited) 4d
Suet624 Screenshot!! Thanks for putting your list together. 4d
BarbaraBB I am happy to see the Piñeiro here and am I now extra looking forward to The Wedding People and Playground and Model Home. The ones I haven‘t heard of I need to check out. Great list Meg, screenshotting! 4d
Chelsea.Poole As always, I love your list and we are pretty much in sync! Several you have here will make my list and the ones I haven‘t read I‘m already on hold for 👯‍♀️ will soon start Wedding People, loved Keanu and on hold for 3d
Chelsea.Poole Ooh and LOVED The Husbands and Margo…not as familiar with the Widows, need to fix that apparently! 3d
Megabooks @MallenNC Both were great. Cue the Sun was especially interesting for me because I always have reality TV on in the background during the day. I just kind of let it run. Right now I've got on Teen Mom: Next Chapter. My reading taste is definitely more refined than my TV! 3d
Megabooks @Deblovestoread Yay! Enjoy! 3d
Megabooks @AmyG Thank you! 3d
Megabooks @Suet624 Awesome! Hope you find one you like. 3d
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Yes, thank you so much for A Little Luck! It was really fantastic! I hope you like Wedding People. So serendipitous that it was on the ToB short list! 3d
Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole I think you'll love Widow's! By far the best memoir I read this year. Heat was interesting reading in concert with my Bourdain year because the author originally went viral with an indictment of Mario Batali and his being called out in #MeToo. Bourdain disavowed him publicly despite their long friendship. They also shared an assistant who has a memoir coming out in April! Exciting! 3d
BarbaraBB I think you have a sixth sense for that. Are you feeling better yet? 🩷 3d
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Maybe, but I was surprised by that one! I am feeling a bit better. I'll write you and Cindy soon. 💜 💜 3d
Centique Oooh what s good list. It will take me ages but ill get to some of these! Im reading Wedding People right now and loving it! 3d
BarbaraBB 🤍🤍 3d
youneverarrived So many on my tbr 💜 2d
Megabooks @Centique thanks Paula! That‘s such an enjoyable book. I loved (and rooted for) those characters. 1d

Just two weeks until the end of the year, it‘s time for our tradition to share our #Top24of24.

This is mine so far. And yes, if you look good it are actually 25 books 😉.

I‘ll tag a few people to get things started, please share your favorites and tag a few more 💝

Soubhiville I‘ve been thinking about what may have made my list 🙂. Looking forward to compiling it! 4d
Soubhiville I also loved the warehouse! So many on here I want to read. These end of year lists always build my TBR up! 4d
Vansa I should do this too! This is motivational! 4d
See All 44 Comments
BarbaraBB @Soubhiville @Vansa Can‘t wait for yours! Like you said, so good (or bad?!) for our TBR! 4d
BarbaraBB @Soubhiville The Warehouse has been so underrated, I hope many more people will read it! 4d
Suet624 So many great reads here!!! Now I have to make note of the ones I haven't read so I can scour the Vermont libraries for them. Delighted to see how many of them we share as top reads of the year. 4d
sarahbarnes So many good ones here! And some I haven‘t read and want to especially knowing they made your favorites list. ♥️ I will definitely be making my list soon! 4d
sarahbarnes I loved Safekeep, Pew, Sorrow and Bliss, and All Fours. I have History of Sound in my stack right now. I‘m going to stack Warehouse now. And some of these are already on my TBR! I‘m really excited to read that Everett one of these days! 4d
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes @Suet624 We have been so in sync this past year, I am super excited to both your lists to see which of your favorites I have missed! 4d
AmyG Great list. 4d
Bookwormjillk I am still delusional enough to think I am going to finish the 25 unread books from my December TBR in the next two weeks. I'll get back to you 😂 4d
Librarybelle Great list. I think I need to screenshot this to put some of these on my tbr list (if they‘re not already!). Thanks for the tag. I‘ll have to think about this for a bit and then post! 4d
BarbaraBB @Bookwormjillk 🙌🏽 I hope you‘ll share yours too after finishing those 25 😊 4d
BarbaraBB @AmyG Thanks. I hope you‘ll share yours too! 4d
Megabooks Great list, and I‘m really happy to see two gifts from me on there!! 💜💜 i haven‘t gotten to Cherry Blossoms yet from Hooper, so I‘ll have to move that up. 💯💯 screenshotted this! 4d
Deblovestoread Not surprised to see some of my favorites are yours as well. Some I need to move to the top and some new to me that I need to check out. Fantastic list! 4d
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Many others were recommended by you 🩷. Are you feeling my better? 4d
AmyG I will eventually get around to sharing mine. 🤣 4d
BarbaraBB @Deblovestoread I‘ll feel the same about your lists I‘m sure. I hope you‘ll share it too! (edited) 4d
squirrelbrain Some of these will be on my list, and some were on last year‘s list I think! ☺️ I‘ll have a look at mine over the weekend, if I get chance! 4d
BarbaraBB @AmyG 😀😀 4d
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain I hope so but Gin comes first I guess, at the end of the year 😉😘 4d
Ruthiella Thanks for the tag! 4d
youneverarrived Thanks for the tag 😘 a few here I really want to read! 4d
squirrelbrain You make me sound like I‘m doing nothing but *drinking* gin! 🤪 Hmmmm, maybe I should consider it. 🤔 4d
Suet624 Oh, and I just got my copy of The View on the Way Down from a Kentucky library (go figure) and The Warehouse is waiting for me at the local library. Excited to read both of them. 4d
BarbaraBB @Suet624 The pressure 😱😊 4d
Cathythoughts Great choices Barbara. I loved The Safekeep and Pet too. Reading Is Mother Dead at the moment, really good. 😊 4d
BkClubCare Fun!🤩 what is the Percival Everett? I don‘t recognize that cover 4d
Hooked_on_books Great list! Only you accidentally put All Fours on there, so if you fix that error, then you‘ll be at 24. 😉 I expect The History of Sound to be on my list and Black Butterflies was a favorite for me last year. And I‘m thrilled to see The Warehouse! I‘ll definitely be making a list but waiting until the true end of the year. I always worry I‘ll read something amazing and wish I had included it. 😬 4d
BarbaraBB @BkClubCare It‘s an oldie but real good 4d
BarbaraBB @Hooked_on_books 😂😂 All Fours! I may make changes of if I am reading another 5⭐️ before the end of the year! 4d
BarbaraBB @Cathythoughts I am looking forward to your thoughts. I will be reading her newest soon 4d
BkClubCare @BarbaraBB - you had me searching non-US covers for all his books! Ty 4d
CarolynM Interesting choices! I‘m not sure if I‘ve read enough to have 24 books that deserve the recognition, but we‘ll see😆 3d
TrishB Having a look at mine at the moment! But I‘m nowhere near 24 🤷‍♀️ 3d
BarbaraBB @TrishB No 24 good reads? You read so much!! 3d
Chelsea.Poole Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this! Isn‘t it satisfying to see all the year‘s best reads in one place? ☺️ 3d
BarbaraBB @Chelsea.Poole I love this time of year even though it messes with my TBR. Can‘t wait for your list! 3d
TrishB I have 17 so far on the best of list and then a lot just below that! We have 2 the same this year!. Though some of yours would appear on my previous years. One of yours would also be the worst book I read this year 😉 I‘m with @Hooked_on_books 3d
BarbaraBB @TrishB Hahaha it‘s definitely a love or hate book 😂😂 3d
Centique Oh i love this time of the year! Awesome list and i know i will like so many of them because we often like the same books. I loved Sorrow and Bliss too. Adding lots of these to my TBR 😍 2d
BarbaraBB @Centique Yes we do love many of the same books. I hope you will post your favorites too! 2d

Today is my birthday (61st it's hard to believe), so of course I had to go buy some books for my ever growing, slightly groaning TBR shelves. I liked Blake Crouch's Upgrade, and I already have Dark Matter, Stardust is the only book by Neil Gaiman that I haven't read (I tried watching the movie and stopped 30 minutes into it), and Dreadful just sounded like a fun book.

Despite what my girlfriend would say, going to the used bookstore and only purchasing 4 books shows an enormous amount of restraint on my part. I could have easily walked out with a dozen, but I have to wait until I purchase a new bookcase because I've about reached the limit with my current set up.

@Eggs thanks for the tag💕 #WondrousWednesday
I organize by genre/subject(nonfiction and fiction blended together), by author within genre, in the order I read them or in series order; unless I have to stack them because of shelf size due to following the ceiling (which is a giant pain-the-ass for me). In that case, I find size order more appealing. My husband (the shelf builder) loves the mix of stacked & vertical books; I've made peace with it🤣

marleed Oh my goodness this is gorgeous! I am so in love with your room and collection 🥰🥰. One thing I started doing since I shelf read/unread together… I place a clashing color paragraph tab on the spine of my unread books so I can easily consider them for future reading. 5mo
dabbe #youaremyzen 🩶🖤🩶 5mo
TheBookgeekFrau @marleed Thank you!💕 The tabs are a good idea! A very, very, very long time ago I used to shelve read and unread together; but it didn't take long until I got completely confused. In the first 2 iterations of my library when my collection was smaller, the TBRs were stacked on the lowest shelves to make them look full. Then they were stacked on the floor. Now I have separate TBR shelves that didn't fit in the picture📚 5mo

After MUCH trial and error, I‘m finally happy with my book storage arrangement. Once I stopped trying to keep read favorites separate from TBR, it became easier to let each shelf be its own little collection. These two are in the middle of a tall bookcase and are probably the most “camera ready” of the set.

You know how you plan to buy one book and come out with many? I only wanted Titan's Day, then I saw the Palahniuk book and it sounded interesting, then the book by Jeff Vandermeer (who I've never read but wanted to try), then the new fantasy series by Van Loan sounded very intriguing, so I left with 5 instead of 1. But for only $6.69!! Who can blame me?!

The first book haul of 2024. I was especially happy to find Fuzzy Nation, the only book by Scalzi I haven't read, and Robots Versus Slime Monsters, a short story collection by A. Lee Martinez, another favorite author.

audraelizabeth Those look like they are older scifi books, am i right? 11mo
RamsFan1963 @audraelizabeth Fuzzy Nation & Robots vs Slime Monsters are fairly recent, 2011 & 2013, but the other four books are much older, from the 70s & early 80s. 11mo

audraelizabeth Nice, i dont know that ive read any scifi of that age. 11mo
RamsFan1963 @audraelizabeth The best thing about older sci-fi is it's usually one and done, you don't have to read a series of books to get the whole story. It's getting harder and harder to find genre books that aren't either the start of a new series or part of an existing series. I read plenty of series, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it's nice to get the whole story laid out in 175-200 pages. 11mo
audraelizabeth I understand, im bad about not finishing series. I would think it would be interesting to read how they thought life in current times would be. 11mo

I got a good #bookhaul from the used bookstore. I've been wanting to try the Thursday Next series, so I was thrilled to see they had The Eyre Affair (and the rest if I want to continue the series). I remember Urshurak from when I was like 15, but it looked too much like a LOTR ripoff so I skipped it. I'll read anything by John Scalzi & Mike Resnick.
#nevertoomanybooks #neverenoughshelves

Bookwomble I had the exact same experience with Urshurak when I was a teen - it looked fantastic, the Hildebrand artwork lush, but the story looked too derivative of JRRT, so I never actually read it. 1y

Cinfhen Im VERY excited about my haul but a few are a bit chunky @squirrelbrain Hubby has given me the stink eye more than once….. 2y
Chelsea.Poole I hope it delivers for you and the postage wasn‘t a waste! 😆 2y

I live an hour away from civilization and many, many hours from a B&N, so when my travel day fell on the 50% sale, it was meant to be. I found 2 of the 5 books I wanted (pictured) which brings me up to FIVE books for my THREE day trip. Lol, I probably won‘t even finish my current book but I live that ‘bring way too many books with me‘ lifestyle and I ain‘t quitting that anytime soon. 🙃📚📚🤓

Here‘s my lovely #BookHaul that I‘ve been slowly shipping to my parents. I honestly can‘t remember which books work for which challenges but I‘ll figure it all out in the coming days! I know I‘ve got a few from #TOB23 longlist and then #Booked2023 #ReadingTheAmericas23 and #52BookClub #MyFavoriteTimeOfTheYear #ChallengePlanning
Anyone see anything that‘s outstanding???

TrishB Wow 😮 2y
Dragon Officially jealous, fantastic haul! 💚🐉 📚 2y
Megabooks Wow!! Great haul!! I loved The Office of Historical Corrections and so did my mom. Good Eggs was fun too. And I wish I had gotten Mother Noise when I heard her speak with David Sedaris. #fomoisreal 2y

Nothing better, after a long day at work where everyone called off and I had to work alone, to come home to some book mail.
#nevertoomanybooks #neverenoughshelves

The_Book_Ninja They look damn sexy! 2y
RamsFan1963 @The_Book_Ninja I like my old school science-fiction, short and I don't have to read 5 books to get the whole story. Stand alone sci-fi has just about become a thing of the past, like fantasy has been for many years. 2y
The_Book_Ninja Where do you buy them? 2nd hand books are so expensive nowadays. They used to be pennies 2y
RamsFan1963 @The_Book_Ninja Usually off ebay or the local used book store, also any library sales I can catch. You're right though, even used, older paperbacks aren't cheap. These three ran me about 15, which is much less than a hardback book but still not as inexpensive as they used to be. 2y

Delightful kids book about the British library. I want to go there . Book is easy to read and very well illustrated. I love it. Was being discarded by our library .

It's been too long since I did a nice splurge at the bookstore.
I can never have too many Star Trek novels, and All of the Marvels is something I've been very eager to read. I read Bad Days in History a couple of years ago, I didn't know there was a sequel.

#nevertoomanybooks #neverenoughshelves

Leftcoastzen Nice haul! 2y
Meshell1313 Awesome! If I were going to start reading the Star Trek books, which one would you recommend I start with? There‘s sooo many. 2y
RamsFan1963 Hmmm there are several really good ones. Anything by David Mack or Dayton Ward will be good for anyone no matter your knowledge of Trek lore. A good starting point is the Vanguard series by Mack & Ward. It has both characters from classic original ST and new characters too. 2y

Graywacke I‘m interested on All the Marvels. I bought it for my son, who likes the Marvel movies, but not books so much. Didn‘t take. But I‘m still eying it for me. 2y
Meshell1313 @RamsFan1963 awesome! Thank you so much for the tip! I‘m going to check them out! 2y

Nothing nicer, after a hard day at work, to come home to a little bookmail. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in Ann Leckie's series. I'm a bit bummed about the James Blish book. Someone tried to remove the price sticker, and did a piss poor job of it. I'll have to try some glue gone to salvage the cover.

Lizpixie I hope the 2nd Ancillary book lives up to the 1st for you👍 2y

AmyG Ooooooo 🙌🏻 2y
JamieArc I‘ll have to check it out. Booth was just nominated for the Booker prize, so it‘s on my radar now. 2y
jlhammar That's a great stack! I'm really looking forward to The Postscript Murders and I plan to start Booth ASAP. It was just longlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize today! 2y

I don't know if it was the heat, but my phone connection has been down all day and I couldn't post on Litsy.
Anyway, I grabbed these books at Goodwill today when I ventured out into the heat. I'm kind of annoyed at Goodwill. For awhile they were putting price stickers on the spines or on the back cover, but now they've gone back to putting them on the front, and they're a bitch to get off without messing up the cover. 😡😡😡

Ruthiella Have you ever tried warming the sticker up with a hair dryer first? I find it helps a lot. 2y
CBee Goo Gone works if you can handle the smell! You don‘t need much and the gel kind doesn‘t seep into the cover or anything. 2y
RamsFan1963 @Ruthiella I'm bald so I don't own a hair dryer 🤣 but I might buy a small one just for this reason. I can't get the one of the Martin Caidin book without damaging the cover. 2y
Bookwomble Book stickers which damage the product baffle me - why would you? 😠🤷‍♂️ 2y
AmandaBlaze I second the Goo Gone. We used it all the time at the student bookstore. 2y

It feels like forever since I made a trip to the used book store. Didn't find much of interest, I was trying to avoid books that were parts of series (gets harder and harder every day).

#nevertoomanybooks #neverenoughshelves

tokorowilliamwallace Some nice vintage picks. I still gotta get through my slim 1970 Andre Norton and should get to one of my vintage/early Cherryh volumes I recently acquired soon. Now that I'm finally through my first Ed McBain I can move on to the other volumes. 2y
