I loved it! I live this story, the characters and the love story too!
I liked this it wasn‘t what I expected and that‘s okay… I enjoyed some of the adventures Shiori became involved in … to lose your voice and still be able to get your thoughts across was a great twist to the story … really enjoyable read…. Now I have to read the second book
Good storytelling in this YA fantasy containing elements of East Asian folklore.

Very immature writing. The idea of the story is good but the execution wasn‘t for me
Shiori has forbidden magic, her stepmother may be a demon, her 6 brothers have been turned into cranes, & her betrothed may not be awful. What‘s a girl to do? Break the curse & save her kingdom, that‘s all.
Charming! It had a bit of a slow start, but I really like Shiori. It was so gratifying to see her character growth, & I loved the unusual spin on this fairy tale. The romance was also just fleshed out enough. Looking forward to 2!🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Ended up getting two steroid injections into my face today, so I deserved a treat.
The taiyaki is filled with Nutella. ❤️

This felt a bit more like a fairytale than fantasy and I didn't know that beforehand. Characters weren't really fleshed out. I found a character that I really loved, but they hadn't got many pages.
Atmosphere was magical and beautiful and I loved it. I would have loved to have more action.
This had plotholes that made it almost impossible to believe in this story but I can still say I liked this book - but unfortunately didn't love.
A great YA fantasy recommendation for readers who love fairytales & folklore, this particular story heavily inspired by Chinese & Japanese legends with additional elements from stories out of Europe.

Such an enjoyable read! I really like how the author blended legends and fairy tales in this book. Very elegant and decently paced, complete with a few fun twists. Pleasantly surprised by this one!
Shiori runs away right before her betrothal ceremony & comes across a dragon—creatures long thought to be absent from her world. But that‘s not her only secret & when one of them is revealed, she & her brothers are cursed. Somehow, she has to solve everything without saying a single word for with each word she speaks, one of her brothers will die. I enjoyed this YA fantasy which is the first book in a duology.
I‘m such a mood/vibe reader that tomorrow‘s forecast for all day wind and rain (not snow which would be more typical but 🤷♀️) made me want to read a fairy tale, or the retelling of one, and who am I to argue with myself? So just as soon as I stop staring at this very cool cover, I‘m going to start this one!
Thank you @Cupcake12 for a beautiful #JolabokaflodSwap present!
I can‘t wait to get into the chocolate and the book! This book has been on my TBR for months, and I‘m looking forward to it! ❤️
Thank you @MaleficentBookDragon for once again putting together a wonderful swap!
Beautiful fairytale-style story inspired by East Asian folklore. Six Crimson Cranes features a fierce heroine, Shiori, who is fueled by love for her family and a desire to control her own fate. This hero‘s journey is decidedly YA and quite enjoyable.
This was a beautiful fairy tale about a girl who is not thrilled with her impending marriage and gets herself and her brothers into a mysterious curse. This is a YA book, that would be fine for younger readers. I highly recommend! 4.5⭐️

Wasn‘t sure about this one as I thought it might be too YA but wow!
Excellent world building and story with brilliantly written characters, didn‘t want it to end. Can‘t wait to read the next book
4/5 ⭐️
Really enjoyed this one! Shiori is a character that is easy to love and esp more considering the trials she went through in order to protect her #family. This book also has witty characters, #magic, friendship, and to those who love soft boys, a fluffy #romance. There were some twists and turns I wasn't expecting but I really enjoyed how it all panned out #retelling #fantasy
Another The Wild Swans retelling of sorts. I enjoyed it, though it took me a long time to read through it. I am glad the sequel comes out in a couple of weeks, I want to know what happens next. It will also make a fun read for my kids.
Looking forward to starting this book today, heard loads of good things about it.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 Excellent storytelling right from the start. Who couldn‘t love the characters in this tale along with magic, evil demons, dragons and lush lands. A young adult story that is accessible to anyone to enjoy.
The magic is lovely, the fairy tale quality of the story is compelling and rich, world building beautiful. Six cranes, dragons, snakes, demons.
Shiori has been exiled and for every word she speaks one of her 6 brothers who have been magically turned into cranes will die. so who should find her and help her even though they don‘t recognize her and she won‘t speak? but her formerly betrothed who she basically left at the alter, Takkan. beautifully woven story and world, the magic is incredible and it‘s so easy to be invested in Shiori and Takkan‘s journey. can‘t wait for the sequel.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)
“Six Crimson Cranes” is a wonderful fantasy with an interesting premise, and I enjoyed it greatly. I found Shiori‘s character arc to be well done, and I also loved the sweet romance between Shiori and Takkan. I am definitely looking forward to this book‘s sequel and I appreciated the pretty book map!
The way Elizabeth Lim builds the world and twists the plot right underneath readers was amazing. I never saw what was around the corner as the story unfolded. And with the way this book ends readers will be eagerly awaiting book two. I know I am. A book for those who enjoy stories with a folklore feel and Asian inspired mythology. #fantasy #youngadult

What a great way to start a morning! Elizabeth Lim tells an amazing story of a sister and brothers as they learn about themselves when a curse having their life. I cannot wait to read book 2!
I preferred this over Spin the Dawn, but I don‘t understand why this needs to be a trilogy too? I have given up on YA trilogies, and I really should have checked before I started reading 📖.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I really liked this book! The consistent pace made it super easy to fly through and I‘m excited for the sequel!
I‘m honestly not sure how I feel about this one…. Was it good, yeah I think so. Am I going to remember to read the second book when it finally is released? Probably not… hmmmm

185 of 2021. Book 4 #DashingDecember . Exiled Princess Shiori must discover how to reverse a curse placed on her brothers by their stepmother which turns them into cranes. The problem is, she cannot speak at all or write anything about her situation because each word will kill one of her brothers. Shiori is such a strong character. I loved this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #readathon

I‘m not even that mad my flight got delayed 2 hrs because I read this book all in one sitting! Buzzfeed (of all things) led me to a fantasy book with an enticing plot, and some good twists too! Shiori must free her 6 brothers (turned into cranes) from her stepmother‘s curse. Not only is she enchanted to not write a message or make her identity known - for every word she speaks, one of her brothers dies. I‘m going to look into more of Lin‘s novels!
My flight is delayed yet again as I sit on the plane in Toronto. Good thing I got a new book on Black Friday!
Last one for now and I‘ve been reading this one for awhile. I really enjoyed this. Felt new and fresh. I truly want to read it again. #bookspinbingo
I‘m only a couple of chapters into #elizabethlim‘s #sixcrimsoncranes, but I‘m enjoying it so far. I‘ve been raised on stories similar to the book‘s premise, so I can see where some things are going, but that doesn‘t bother me too much.
I decided that some of the books I read the past month or so deserve recognition and this is one of them. Shiori is a wonderful character and I love the incorporations of folklore in our world by Lim to create a world unique to her characters. The story‘s pace slowed halfway through and I set it down for much too long, but it was still a fun ride!
I really enjoyed this one. I like the authors world, the story was unique and I absolutely loved Takkan. Can't wait to see what happens next.
I loved this fresh and feminist retelling of my fave Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Six Swans, blended with East Asian mythology.🔸#augustreads2021
I picked up a 4th book at Vroman‘s yesterday. I‘ve been wanting to read #sixcrimsoncranes by #elizabethlim because it sounds like one of my favorite folk tales. I am so excited for this read!
Why did no one tell me this wasn't a standalone!?
How did I not know that!?
This was SO GOOD and now I have to wait for the sequel! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Today's audio project is finishing off several hundred leather magnets. I have never been more thankful for audio books than when I have a really tedious job to do.

Really loved #audiostitching to this fantastic YA novel. One of my favourite stories is The Children of Lir - where an evil stepmother, jealous of her stepchildren, turns them into seams. This book got me hooked because of the similarities to Lir, but was so much richer than I was expecting. Also: dragons. Highly recommended. Pictured: what my current project will look like when done.
