I wish it didn't take the movie coming out for me to find out about this book - I have always loved Stephen King but hadn't read him in years, other than re-reads of some of my favorites. I loved The Shining, but I think Doctor Sleep is even better. I'm still creeped out from reading it! But it was fun to read more about Danny Torrance and finish his story.

I got a last minute call from a close friend who said his podcast guest has dropped out and asked if I could talk about “The Shining” and “Doctor Sleep” this weekend 😳🙈. So now I‘m gulping this book down 😆.

Oh my god I LOVED this book!! I loved that we not only got to go back and discuss things from The Shining but moved Dan Torrance‘s story forward. Even though it was a real door stopper the plot moved quickly and was just thrilling. And the characters were amazing! Might be my new favorite King novel! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I finally finished Doctor Sleep! I enjoyed this one way more than The Shining. I thought the plot was really interesting and I really liked Abra a lot.

On my way to SoCal to become a first time aunt and watch my sister and her fiancé become first time parents ? So excitedly anxious that idk if I‘ll be able to focus on my book but I‘m gonna try. Fingers crossed we don‘t end up spending thanksgiving in a hospital ???

Although I didn't find Doctor Sleep anywhere as "smooth" or creepy as The Shining, I really enjoyed following Danny Torrence's struggle and redemption in King's sequel to his beloved novel.

Lots of authors have a bit of my reading heart, but King probably has the biggest bit.

I‘m about halfway through this one and really enjoying it so far! I‘m afraid to admit it, but I‘m kind of liking it more than The Shining right now. We‘ll see how the second half goes...😬

Reminded me of "old school" King stories that I read in the 80's. The story is suspenseful and rather rapidly paced for such a long novel. The only downside is that the ending felt a bit too rushed with an epilogue that I didn't care for. 4 out of 5 stars.

The audio for this one was very good. I spent a large portion of Saturday and Sunday listening while doing housework and sometimes I‘d find myself just standing and listening. Even though I read The Shining five years ago, I didn‘t need a recap of the previous story to enjoy Doctor Sleep. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I finished listening to this book for #theredrumreadalong and I enjoyed it.

Oh boy... finished the book yesterday and saw the movie tonight. Anyone else read the books and saw the movies (the shining as well)? I have feelings!
I can appreciate that to get a 600+ page book down to a 2.5hr movie things need to be condensed but I though there were some key points left out. AND to try to appease the original movie goers, things need to be changed slightly. The movie was an interesting mix b/w the books and the shining movie.

I went to see Doctor Sleep with my brother yesturday & we both loved it! It was such well done movie for an incredible book. The acting bringing the characters to life & the effects especially the recreation of The Overlook Hotel are all brilliantly executed👏👏👏 I loved the book & the movie! #booktoscreen

I liked it a lot. I think it‘s important that you don‘t expect The Shining when you read it. It‘s not the same, but it‘s a great King story. And it was fun to see what became of little Danny.

Saw the movie today. I'm pretty sure this is my favorite King adaptation of all time!

It‘s feeling like a ‘stay in bed and read‘ kind of morning 😊

I‘m desperately trying to get through this book before going to see the movie later this week.

Saw Doctor Sleep a second time earlier today. Stellar adaptation with a whole lot of heart; something, in my opinion, that was missing from the 1980 film which I've always thought of as a great movie but a bad adaptation. I read a tweet describing what Flanagan has accomplished as a feat of cinematic diplomacy, which is a neat way to put it. The way he strung together elements from both books, especially towards the end, while ⬇️

Comfort food on a snowy day. Tomato sandwich and a cup of Yorkshire gold. The teen is nagging me to read this one, so he can borrow it. He‘ll be happy that it‘s up next. lol

The Shining is one of my favorite and possibly one of the scariest books I‘ve ever read. King really did a great job with this sequel. It had a lot of great nods to the first book while still maintaining its own unique story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just finished this and have a new top 5 favorite book!!! It‘s wonderful❤️

I‘ve just been to see this in cinema, wow. Unfortunately I haven‘t had the chance to read the book yet. But the movie did not disappoint. You should see it!! #stephenking. #doctorsleep.

Another day, another bookstore read - started this one yesterday and couldn‘t put it down without finishing 🙈

This was a really good and creepy read and I can‘t wait to see the movie this weekend!

I ordered this book at the beginning of October to read before Halloween but it looks like I‘m going to keep the spooky books alive in November 👻🧟‍♀️🎃

So I‘m not sure how much of #BookishBingo I plan on doing. It has a lot prompts that aren‘t really what I like. But we will see.

I don‘t do traditional TBR. I mean I have tons of books I‘d like to read but then kinda let my mood decide when it comes time to pick my next book. But I started this one in October so... it‘s counting :)

I loved it... I mean this was a reread for preparation for the movie but.. loved it just as much the second time around :)

Finished just in time for the movie‘s release! A passable sequel to “The Shining;” I just wish it carried over more of the creepiness.

There came a time when you realised that moving on was pointless. That you took yourself with you wherever you went.

Yay! I just started listening to this today after finishing with listening to The Shining again over the weekend. It‘s good so far. I‘m excited.

So I ended up resubscribing to audible (I was gonna be doing a 5hr drive home for a wedding and it would have kept me too busy to be able to finish the reread of the book before the movie :) I am loving the reliving of this book :)

As mentioned in previous posts I read The Shining last week. I talked about how terrifying it was, I didn't mention that since finishing it it has become a new favorite King. I needed to spend a few days letting it mentally simmer. My feelings about Doctor Sleep are a bit more ambiguous. I greatly appreciate that King didn't try to duplicate The Shining, which would be impossible anyways. King is a different writer reflecting on a different👇

Ok I need to talk to the Walmart merchandiser. They had Doctor Sleep but not The Shining next to it! How do you have the second book of a sequel but not the first?? My wanted to read Dr. Sleep but didnt know it was the second book so I wouldnt let her buy it bc she hadnt read The Shining. If they wouldve had both I wouldve bought both therefore a bigger sale for Walmart. Sorry rant over.

My plans of finishing both of King's novels by yesterday were somewhat thwarted by an impromptu decision to spend Halloween night rereading favorite Poe stories & an 8 hour ER visit with one of my individuals last night. Currently halfway through Dr. Sleep, my only plans for tomorrow are going to watch a movie & finishing my book.
