“At the enchanted metropolitan twilight I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others—poor young clerks who loitered in front of windows waiting until it was time for a solitary restaurant dinner—young clerks in he dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life.“
4✨ I remember reading this in high school, but not quite understanding/remembering how it ended. As an adult I think I was able to absorb more of the story with understanding. This story is short, but it is expertly crafted. It‘s about love, loss, sacrifice, jealousy, bad decisions, and unlikely friends. I‘m glad I decided to do a reread.
Oh man what a day. I‘m going to chill out for a bit and read a chapter before going home.
I‘ve had these clothespin lights forever, but finally set them up. Excuse my messy bookshelves. I‘m working on cleaning out my library.
I re-read the book last month in anticipation of this, now let‘s see how closely the musical will follow.
This was definitely one of the best classics I've read. I'm trying to determine what and how I feel about the story. It definitely impacted me. My mind is turning it over and over. Tragedy of course. Misguided love. Depravity of human nature. Triumph of the soul. All these things. 3 words: I loved it. Read it
Classic. What more needs said? Second time with this one. Let's see how it impacts me at this point in my life. Books like to do that. The words stay the same but our view changes.

Wrapping up August. Thanks for hosting, @Eggs and @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks! 🧡💜🧡
This is my all-time favorite quote from a book.
*sheepishly points up* The tagged book. I‘ve tried! But I just can‘t get into it.
And I feel like that, with my English degree, I‘m supposed to have read ✨The Classics✨. But this is one I just can‘t finish. 😂
#SundayFunday Have a great day, and don‘t forget to tag me in your posts!

I never get tired of revisiting this one. Gatsby's “story“ to Nick: “Well, I've been ALL OVER THE WORLD. Been in all the capitals more than once. Lived in all of them too [...] Why, I've made a small fortune in the East, and I've come back to America to start the oyster business.“
Song: “All Over the World“ by ELO. 🤩

When I think of a face on a cover of a book, this is the one that haunts me--ever since I first read it in my American literature class 40 years ago. Oh, and that blue! 🤩
4⭐️ Read this during the most #deweysreadathon and I liked it more this time around than my first time reading it. I was able to understand the story better and therefore enjoyed it more. #2023 #fiction #classics #reread #modern #bookstagram #bookreview

An important read but other Fitzgerald books are better. “Babylon revisited” explores similar criticisms of the American Dream, over indulgence, wealth and poverty while being more interesting and attention grabbing than the Great Gatsby.
4️⃣ I‘ve always meant to read this and never have, my goal is to read more of ‘the classics‘ this year, so this is the first one of those #thegreatgatsby #fscottfitzgerald #kindleread
Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was my first time reading a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald so i wasnt sure what to expect especially since the reviews for it over the years are very up and down but i have to say i did enjoy it even tho the first few chapters came off repetitive but overall the connection for the story came together beautifully. The Characters were very enjoyable and interesting to read about.

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald's third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. This exemplary novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,".
First, Gyllenhaal is a surprisingly adept celebrity narrator. 🤩 Knowing the story of how this book wasn‘t popular until it was mass printed for soldiers in WWII, I can see how the setting and hypermasculinity of Buchanan and Gatsby made this a hit. I can see why many high schoolers, myself included, relate to the gossipy elements of this story. That said, as an adult, this is just okay. It‘s been way over analyzed for a mediocre book. 🤷🏻♀️
The Great Gatsby well illustrates the hollow misery of a life lived primarily for self and money. I did not much like the story or characters, but I can admire the way Fitzgerald used tone and beautifully crafted sentences to tell the story beneath the surface.
I'm back! It's been so long. I went through a streak where I just couldn't read and I hated it. In order to get myself back into reading, I went to an old favourite - The Great Gatsby (my well-worn copy is pictured here). Hoping that now that I've finished this read, I can get back into it more consistently. #bookoneof2023
"I've been drunk for about a week now, and I thought it might sober me up to sit in a library."
"Has it?"
"A little bit, I think. I can't tell yet. I've only been in here an hour."
“Reserving judgements is a matter of infinite hope.”
A beautiful book, a beautiful story. Timeless classic. A forever life favourite of mine. From the opulence of gatsby's parties to the tragic ending we all fear. It reignited an admiration of love and nostalgia for the past. Just remember...keep looking towards the green light 🖤💚🖤

I own both versions so for this read I switched back and forth between this edition and the Audible version depending on what I was doing all weekend. I almost never switch because I usually find it disjointed, but since that‘s kind of the mood of the whole story it didn‘t bother me quite as much. I definitely prefer this in print! I didn‘t really expect this to hold up, and while plenty of things here are offensive, the writing is still fabulous.

I, like most people, read the Great Gatsby in high school and thought it was okay. Today, I still feel like it is pretty dense. BUT THE MOVIE WITH LEO IS AMAZING. Because I love cats and puns, it felt right.
I really admired how much poetry & detail F. Scott Fitzgerald used to describe people - from their appearances to their personality traits - and how much life was breathed into these characters as a result of his writings. When I read this part, I could feel the depth of Gatsby‘s smile 🙂🥂 #thegreatgatsby
This quote stood out to me - it‘s relatable if you‘ve ever yearned to spend an intimate evening with that special someone who you wished to call your own, in a city that comes alive at night, where it feels like anything could happen. #thegreatgatsby
Thought I‘d give this one a second chance but I still don‘t like it. I think it was a combination of the writing style and the perspective but I‘m not sure.
I do enjoy the movie version though so I‘ll just stick to that.
This one will give me the O I need in Lore for my studies at Orilium.
This also counts for both July and August‘s #bookspin numbers. @TheAromaofBooks
Can‘t wait to get back into reading. I used to love reading as a hobby while growing up but have lost touch with that part of myself. however after a pretty turbulent couple of years & after making some pretty questionable life choices, I‘m finding it necessary to jump back into it. So I‘m starting again with this American classic that was part of our English class in high school, but that I never quite paid attention to.
One of my very favorites. Thanks for the tag @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Thank you sooo much @jenniferw88 !!! So thoughtful for you to remember my love of all things Gatsby! I love them all! 💝 Such a fun swap!
Something that I found memorable about the book the Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald is how all of the characters and the plot changed violently at the end of the book. The book at the beginning and most of the middle was not as violent as what it was at the end, where two murders and suicide happen. It makes sense in the plot line, but when I was reading it, the speed at which all of that happens surprised me.
Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
