“Why is it all Mr. Dibbler's films are set against the background of a world gone mad?“ said the dwarf.
Sol's eyes narrowed “Because Mr. Dibbler,“ he growled, “is a very observant man.“

How I‘m currently managing election anxiety… reading Terry Pratchett and listening to my husband and a friend play some jazz at our church (which is a voting center—it‘s a delight to hear them offering some music for voters in line!)
#ComfortReadathon
Discworld discovers the unique magic of the silver screen & moving pictures. It goes about as well as you could expect. & will make you cry.
While this story is humorous, it‘s also an examination of the creation & destruction of dreams, the fine balance of solace/oblivion one can find in media. & how the real heroes are the ones that aren‘t recognized. 1 of the more bittersweet Discworld novels. & goddamn but it made me cry. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
Discworld, Hollywood and Cthulhu all get mixed up chaotically together in this novel. I enjoyed all the references to old movies and Hollywood stars, and I especially loved Gaspode the Wonder Dog!

Third book read for #HauntedShelf @Catsandbooks #HexesAndCrows
I would rank this in the top 20, maybe top 10, of Pratchett's books. He really hit the nail on the head with this one. Given the state of Hollywood, I think it is even more relevant today than when it was written. Got to say, Pratchett's wit shines in this one.

Just kind of meh compared to his other discworld books, imho.
Maybe I‘m too old to just get into Discworld. All the jokes were flat, and it was nothing but jokes. Sigh. I feel like I wasted a Hoopla checkout.
🎉 Finished my 20th Discworld book! By my count that puts me halfway through the series. For the confused: I've been reading them in whatever order I can get them from the library.
I loved the send ups of classic and popular films. Imaginative and funny as always and all the more heartwarming thanks to Gaspode the Wonderdog and Good boy Laddie! I think if this were published today, the focus would be on the internet as the seductive medium. 🤔
Bonus points for the Blues Brothers reference. 😎
“There are few things that so shake #belief as seeing, clearly and precisely, the object of that belief. Seeing, contrary to popular wisdom, isn‘t believing. It‘s where belief stops, because it isn‘t needed anymore.” #QuotsyFeb21
While I missed some of the usual characters from previous books, I greatly appreciated all the giggles in this satire. The featured characters, esp. Victor & the Archchancellor, add just enough reason to make Holy Wood even more ridiculous. Their resistance to the allure also grounded the story in a way, and made it even more fun to root for them against the madness. It weirdly felt like not enough happened, but I still really enjoyed it.
1. I have a billion throws I rotate through, but one of my faves is our fleecy owl throw. 🦉
2. Only a billion of them, but I've been working on catching up on my Pratchett for ages and I'd like to get through the tagged this year.

Book 30
Once again I'm being a downer on the early books. This one does get into the feel of his parody style more. I guess I'm just not real big on movies in general (the book is better after all).
I really do want to like this book, I just can't quite get into it the way that I do the later writing.
#ReadYourSign Book 1 completed! It fills the following prompts:
♉ Published between April 20-May 20
♉ Published in my birth year (1990)
♉ Taurus author
♍ Marigold flower (I hope this last one is allowed, as it's not really about the flower!)
4 ⭐

After a lot of umming and aahing, these are the 7 books I'm going to use for the 13 prompts I want to do for #readyoursign @Meaw_catlady @Clwojick . Using Moving Pictures & The Girl who Played with Fire for a LOT of them! 😂😂😂
Not my fave of his Discworld books thus far but still made me chuckle plenty. #booked2020 Makes Me Laugh prompt and #mounttbr2020 @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft
#weeklyforecast About 3/4 of the way though tagged book so should finish by tomorrow.
“It was like rising slowly out of a pink cloud, or a magnificent dream which, try as you might, drains out of your mind as the daylight shuffles in, leaving a terrible sense of loss; nothing, you know instinctively, nothing you're going to experience for the rest of the day is going to be one half as good as that dream.” #shuffle #QuotsySept19

Book 58 of the year finished July 24, audio.
Not my favorite Discworld. I kept falling out if the story before pulling my attention back in again.
When moving pictures come to the Disc, chaos ensues.
Friday summer solstice evening camping on the living room floor with 3 out of 4 of my sleeping reading companions, guest Rex (left), dog niece Shandy (right), and cat nephew Dac making himself comfortable in Rex‘s dog bed. Somewhere cat niece Sunny Shine is having her own adventure through out the house.
Two more books to go @julesG until I‘m caught up with the #oOkBooKcluB. 😅
This one took me a long time to get into, I tend to struggle with the outliers in the Discworld series, without the characters I‘ve grown to love. But as the action picked up at the end and the movie references came faster, it definitely got better and picked up for me, loved Gaspode and the last 1/3 of the story flew by for me.

Oh, I liked this one! In my mind I think I had conflated it with Soul Music, so it'll be interesting to revisit that one and see just how similar they are. I feel like the middle sagged some and I wish that Ginger was a more developed character, but the ending sings and the prose is having the best time the whole time. Probably to highest jump in fun between memory and reread.

Victor, I like you, but saying you -think- something is wrong after multiple fugue states, talking animals, and changed eyes? Keep up, would you?!

Ah, Ridcully! Though he's a bit more aggressive than I remembered. Also, this book seems to have more going for it prose-wise than Eric right of the bat.

Haven‘t been #litsywalkers -ing very diligently for a few weeks, but took a looong walk to a yoga class today. Warrior poses. Who knew standing still could be such hard work? The funny-shaped buildings are the part of the medical school - wasn‘t sure to start with, but I quite like them now.
And listening to the next #OokBookClub title. Enjoying this one much more! Can‘t decide how much is the narrator & how much is the book!

This is an extremely accurate depiction of something that happens in this book, painted by the great Paul Kidby. Don‘t you think you should probably read it?
#DiscRead
In Discworld 10, Lovecraftian horrors seek to break into reality by weakening the walls between real and unreal... and what better way to do that than the Disc‘s burgeoning moving picture industry located at, where else, Holy Wood.
This book is loaded with movie in-jokes and commentary about the madness of fame, while somehow also being a cracking adventure. Also Gaspode the Wonder Dog and a thousand elephants!
#DiscRead
“‘It's fifteen hundred miles to Ankh-Morpork,‘ he said. "We've got three hundred and sixty-three elephants, fifty carts of forage, the monsoon's about to break and we're wearing... we're wearing... sort of things, like glass, only dark... dark glass things on our eyes...‘”
I see what you did there, Sir Terry. #DiscRead
Also in this book the Discworld version of Gone With the Wind is called Blown Away.
