Challenge Accepted! | Celeste Barber

Funny woman, Instagram star and international comedy sensation, Celeste Barber's Challenge Accepted! is a hilarious and outspoken guide to life, unwanted gas and how to rock a sexy scar. It's real, like totally, really real. Actor, writer and comedian, Celeste Barber is one very funny woman - not to mention a global social media comedy phenomenon. Amassing over 3.8 million followers in three years with her hilarious #celestechallengeaccepted pics, she has been dubbed 'Australian Comedy Queen' by ABC Online; voted The Funniest Lady on Instagram; gone on sold-out comedy tours of the US; and won herself fans ranging from Tom Ford and Ruby Rose to Amy Schumer and Dawn French. In the tradition of Tina Fey's Bossypants, Challenge Accepted! is part memoir, part comedy routine, part advice manual. Calling out our ridiculous obsession with celebrity Instagram culture, Celeste reveals all, including her thoughts on keeping it real, the secrets to love, friendship, family and marriage ( oh hai, #hothusband), and how to deal with life's many challenges, like, motherhood, and what to do when your local bottleshop owner can't remember your name. Celeste is raucous, real and hilarious. Bring it on.

Sarah and I am happy to announce we‘ll be cohosting the #BackListReadathon on the third week of each month, with the goal of finally getting around to reading those pesky author backlists.

Whether you‘re focusing on a specific series, multiple series or standalones, each month you choose any one author to read from. If you finish all their books on your TBR before the week is up, you can move onto another author.

tdrosebud Oh, I like this idea! 2y
Allylu Of course, I'm in. I've got to read those Brigid Kemmerer backlist books! 2y
Clwojick Yay! I‘m glad you‘re joining! I went through the audiobooks on my phone, and I already have enough authors to last the year 😅 I‘m scared to look at my physical shelves. 🫣 @Allylu 2y

Allylu 😊 2y
Clwojick @GHABI4ROSES @DieAReader Tagging you guys as well, since I think my January author of choice will be Blake Pierce! ❤️ 2y
EadieB I'll be joining in. Thanks for contacting me! 2y
Pigpen_Reads I'm in! I'm trying to focus on all of my physical books this year. 😬 I haven't counted them yet, I'm kind of afraid to 😂 2y
Andrew65 Always good to see new readathons, and we all have plenty of authors we need to progress on. ❤️

Usually the 9 day Pick Your Own Goals Readathon takes place mid month which will often be the same time as this. Scheduled for 14th - 22nd this month. Do you want me to schedule this for the second week in future months?
@Clwojick @TheAromaOfBooks
(edited) 2y
TheBookHippie I just made two stacks 🤣🤣🤣😅 to read. 2y
Clwojick @Andrew65 oh shoot, Andrew. I wasn‘t even thinking about the overlap. It‘s completely up to you if you want to switch it up. I just took a look at this months work schedule and booked it when I had a lighter week. 2y
Andrew65 @Clwojick It‘s no problem at all 😁 The nine day Readathon can fluctuate between the second and third week depending on the structure of the month, so I‘ll just look at that to take place in the second week from next month. ❤️ I look forward to taking part in this Readathon. 2y
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Only two 😂 2y
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2y
DieAReader @Clwojick LOVE IT!!💜📚 I‘m in! What Pierce series are you starting?😏🤓 2y
RainyDayReading Sounds like fun! 2y
StayCurious Ooh all of your reading challenges are so creative this year! 2y
Read4life Love this 💙 I told a friend I‘d read the In Death series with her. She said with the novellas there‘s currently 71 in the series. I‘m on #3 🤣 I think I just planned the whole year for this Readathon 2y
Clwojick Oh @Read4life oh my gosh!!! Only 68 to go 😅 2y
Clwojick @DieAReader I found a mega audiobook on Scribd for the first 6 audios in the Riley Paige Watching, Wanting, etc etc series. I‘ve only read the first so far! Depending on if I still have access to it next week(since Scribd is weird like that)I‘ll either start with that, or the Au Pair series. 2y
Clwojick @StayCurious Thanks! You know me! Attempting to read ALL THE THINGS haha 2y
DieAReader @Clwojick I‘ll be curious to know what you think when you‘re done a few. I have all the series starters free from BookBub but so far have only allowed myself to be addicted to the Jessie Hunt series😂😂 Happy reading my friend, enjoy💜🤓📚 2y
Clwojick @DieAReader I‘ll have to make a #bulletjournal spread so I can have all the ratings in one place. 🤣 2y
DieAReader @Clwojick That doesn‘t sound like too much of a hardship😉😏💜 2y
tokorowilliamwallace I usually only pick out or read backlist titles or older publications from authors anyway, in favor of new releases or later ones (unless it's a strict series, then I'll just read whoever volume I find or whichever is thickest page count; I'm not going to take the time to start from the beginning of series and read in order). Even at the library, I look for an author's older publications, pre-2000, if possible or relevant. 2y

Late on Resolution planning day! Naturally I‘ve bitten off more than I can chew but a lot of these overlap and I‘m not going to feel pressured to finish any of them but I‘ll reward myself for each one I do finish (not sure what that will look like though). Goodreads goal remains 100 books. #WinterReadathon

DieAReader 💜💜💜 2y
Andrew65 Best of luck, looks as though it should be a good reading year. 2y
CocoReads Thanks @Andrew65 I hope so—I‘m starting to settle into my new job title although it‘s still a lot of extra work but reading is one of my great stress relievers so we‘ll see how it goes. 2y

I find Celeste Barber‘s Insta spoofs of celebrity posts absolutely hilarious and I get the sense that she is a pretty cool human too. I put off reading this memoir for fear I‘d be disappointed. It‘s my day off from the bookstore.... so what do I do? .......I start going through my shelves, sorting, tidying, and picking out #tbr books for challenges, buddy reads and bookclubs coming up (And re-purposing an old carved wood expandable CD rack as a mini bookcase for nightstand!)
My hubby was confused as to why I would spend my days off, organizing books, doing the same thing I do at work! Does he not know me at all!??? 😂💕📚

I‘m a little late sharing my March update for the #ReadWithMrBook challenge, but here it is. ♥️

Since the local libraries are closed, I was hoping some of the #LitsyLibrarians can recommend some books to me for the April prompt. If you‘re a librarian or know a Litsy librarian, please tag them ♥️

BookwormAHN I also have no idea about what to do for this month's challenge. 5y
LibrarianRyan Let‘s see, especially since I know you do audiobooks I suggest 20,000 leagues under the sea. It‘s up for free right now. It‘s a bit slow and has boring spots but I loved it. Then there is the Palace of lost memory series on audiobook on Hoopla. 5y
MrBook @Clwojick @BookwormAHN , what are you in the mood for? 5y
See All 12 Comments
BookwormAHN @MrBook fantasy or at least some definite escapism. 5y
Clwojick @MrBook I‘m always down for a mystery/suspense,humour, bios or contemporary fiction. 5y
Clwojick @LibrarianRyan thanks for taking audiobooks into consideration ♥️ My library doesn‘t use Hoopla or Libby anymore, but I‘ll check CloudLibrary to see if they have either of those. Thanks! 5y
nitalibrarian Have you read A Madness of Sunshine by Nalini Singh? Or Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone? 5y
MrBook @BookwormAHN , I know access is an issue right now, ugh. How about “Gods of Jade and Shadow” or “Washington Black”? Escapism, hmmm, how about a Blake Crouch like “Dark Matter” or “Recursion”? 5y
MrBook @Clwojick Hmm, mystery/suspense, “The Shadow of the Wind”. Humor, “The Rosie Project” (do audio if possible, hilarious!) or “The Sisters Brothers” or “A Million Ways To Die in the West”. Bios: Anthony Everitt‘s “Cicero”, or “Unbroken” (both excellent on audio!). Contemp fic: “The Island of Sea Women”, “Circe”, or “The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August”. Also, “A Short Stay in Hell” on audio is mind-blowing. (edited) 5y
BookwormAHN @MrBook I loved Dark Matter so I think I'll give Recursion a shot. Thanks. 5y

If I didn't already love Celeste's sense of humour from her Instagram page I definitely would have fallen in love with it when reading this book. This book is a humour filled romp through Celeste's life and experiences with some empowering and poignant experiences also in the mix. A great read for anyone wanting a laugh or just a great read and some further insight into the life of one of the greatest instagrammers of our times. #celestebarber

Wow. Hasn‘t this month flown by! Halfway through January already with only 4 days left of #JumpStart2020 Hows your challenge going? Have you met your goals, exceeded them or failed miserably like me! I put a goal of 10 books but so far I‘ve read 4 & started 3 more but am finding it difficult to settle. A #bookslump is looming😱 I‘ve just started One Of Us Is Next by Karen McManus, hopefully this one sticks. Let me know your progress in the comments.

Emilymdxn I‘ve really impressed myself! I think I had ‘good timing‘ of being sick off work for a week just during the challenge so I had literally nothing to do but read for a week so I‘ve smashed my goal 5y
Clwojick You‘re a still doing great, all things considered. You‘ve got a lot on your plate right now, so keep pushing through! You‘ve got this girl! 5y
TheAromaofBooks It's so frustrating when you feel like you have a million books to read and none of them sound “right“ at the moment!! I'm sure you'll find something that speaks to you. ❤ 5y
ravenlee I made a stack of seven books, of which I have finished four (plus a non-stacked read-aloud with the kiddo). I am halfway through Interpreter of Maladies and about 1/4 into How the Mind Works. Given the extreme Monday-ishness of January as a whole so far, I‘m pretty happy with my progress. 5y

I‘ve got the next two days off, and then I work 7 days straight. I‘m setting some goals to get ahead in my challenges, since I know the next week will be hard for me to do much reading. Today I plan on reading at least 5 children‘s books, at least 5 graphic novels, finish off Where The Crawdads Sing, and possibly also finish off The Bride Test. Once all that‘s done, I‘ll reevaluate.

What are your reading goals for today?

Lizpixie Gotta have goals🏆 5y
MissAimz_55 I hit my goal everyday by just making sure I read daily. I would like to finish one of my books by the end of the weekend. 5y

I seem to have a serious addiction to reading challenges this year, so my bullet journal is quickly filling up. Here are the 5 spreads I made up for the various #LitsyAtoZ challenges I‘ll be attempting in 2020. Audiobooks, Graphic Novels, Children‘s Books, Mystery & Suspense, and Romance. As you can see, #JumpStart2020 has helped me check off a decent chunk already. Here‘s to another great year of reading! 🙌🏻

Deifio Cool spreads! Have fun with your reading challenges! 5y
Lizpixie I know what you mean! I promised myself I‘d cut back on the challenges this year. Nope. I now am doing 15 seperate challenges!🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y

Clwojick @Lizpixie I wasn‘t even sure how many challenges I was doing... so I counted and I have 14 separate challenges started in my journal already. Not to mention the multiple book bingos I want to do as well. 🙈 We‘re Both nuts. 5y

I'm really happy with where my year is going to end, but one of my students challenged me to reach 120. That's a tough order, guys!

Literary_Siren Only 15 to go! I had a lot of changes in my life this year and have only read 77.5 books (one in progress) out of my goal of 110. Which is normally a low goal for me. 5y

I‘m starting to think about my new year reading goals (despite the fact I haven‘t quite completed this year‘s goals, lol) and I‘m going to try to do more challenges that are about diversifying my reading instead of just about how many books I‘m reading. Exhibit A: The Reading Women Challenge. I‘m all about this!

Who else is doing a challenge in the new year? What are your faves?

https://www.readingwomenpodcast.com/reading-women-challenge-2020

NeedsMoreBooks I am doing the Booked2020, Pop Sugar, and Reading Europe. I think I have definitely bitten more than I can chew 🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y
Eyelit @NeedsMoreBooks wow! That‘s going to be awesome! Good luck! 🍀 are you doubling up on some of the titles? 5y
effani I always do Read Harder, which is great for diversifying. I took a halfhearted crack at Reading Women this year, but decided that one challenge is really all I can handle. 5y
See All 11 Comments
NeedsMoreBooks @Eyelit yes, or else it will be a lot 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
sprainedbrain Me! I‘ve got most of my books picked for this one. 😊 5y
Eyelit @sprainedbrain excellent! What are you reading for the picture book by bipoc? That means children‘s book, right? 5y
sprainedbrain Yes, that‘s what I assumed. I‘m reading this one, and would be happy to mail it on to you when I‘m done if you‘re interested? My kids are too old for these books now (although Jack read it the day it came) so I was going to donate it. 5y
DGRachel I found doing these challenges actually led to reading slumps, so I dropped them for this year and felt pretty good about it. I‘m writing up my own challenge for next year to focus on reading some of the books I already own. 😊 5y
Eyelit @sprainedbrain I‘ll save you some postage and pass, but thanks!! I volunteer at my local library every week and on week a month I‘m in the children‘s area shelving - I‘m sure I can find something on one of my visits. I was just thrown by the picture book prompt (was hoping it might be graphic novel) - but am interested in what I come across for that one 😃 5y
Eyelit @DGRachel that sounds like a cool idea! A twist on the mt tbr challenge 😁 5y
sprainedbrain @Eyelit Yes, I was surprised by that one, too. I sometimes avoid YA, struggle to read middle grade, and picture books never even cross my mind. 😂 5y
