I would use this book in my classroom to discuss friendship and shapes. To use it for shapes, I would use this with young children to introduce shapes and what we know about them. I would allow them the opportunity to find these shapes around the classroom.
pickFriendshape by Amy Rosenthal was published in 2015. The book discusses friendship through colors and shape. The illustrations are easy for young children to see and they can make connections to items that have seen with the same shape.

pickToday my department got to volunteer at our nearby elementary school to read & have breakfast with kids whose parents were unable to attend their event. I got to hang out with 3 precocious and fun 1st grade boys. They were all given a copy of Friendshape, which is a great read aloud book with colors, shapes, friends, and puns. One of the boys had Bad Dog in his bag, so we read that too. It was a great way to start the day.
I read this for #storytime today in honor of Ms Krouse Rosenthal. We sang songs, rhymes and played with shapes. We did "Form the Orange" and had fun.
