I selected this as my final read for #pemberlittens. I thought Jane Austen, Persuasion, dystopian, totally for me. But I found this book so blah!! Dystopian books for me are about world and character building. Both were missing. The letters between the two mcs were too childish and lackluster. I did not feel their connection. Nor did I understand where I should stand on technology. Such a disappointment.

I finished this Persuasion riff just before leaving on vacation. It wasn't my favorite book ever, but I did enjoy it. It's a bit darker than the original - Elliot/Anne's dad is actually quite cruel instead of merely self-absorbed, and Captain Wentforth/Wentworth is a lot more bitter and resentful. I also think I would have enjoyed this a lot more if the characters' ages had been more believable - but everyone was only 18 & they've been apart for⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) for 4 years - I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the idea that their 14-year-old selves would have been so serious about their relationship. The ages made this entire story feel “off“ to me because I didn't feel like anyone's emotional maturity/actions actually matched how old they were & it was obviously done so that the book could be billed as YA. Ah well.

I forgot to snap a picture of the book, so here's a picture of Acadia ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) National Park instead. Absolutely gorgeous here and the weather is perfect!!

EadieB Beautiful picture! I completely understand your feelings for this book 📖 making the characters age 14 just to label it YA doesn‘t make the book believable. Thanks for participating in the readathon. Congrats 🎉 on your page totals. Well done! 3y

Bailedbailed

This is an intriguing set-up and I appreciate the interesting world-building retelling of Persuasion, but I'm thinking I just may not be in the mood for dystopian YA right now. I'm not really connecting with the story. I'm going to bail at least for now and wait for A Recipe for Persuasion.

#PemberLittens… the votes are overwhelming for moving Persuasion adaptations to September, so let‘s do it. 😉

I have access to these 6 (will tag in comments), and hope to read at least 3 of them. I saw a few people interested in For Darkness Shows the Stars… Please post your plans in comments, just in case I want to change mine!

sprainedbrain This one has no info on Litsy, but it‘s a brand new Sapphic retelling I snagged on kindle. 3y
sprainedbrain I read an Emma retelling from this author that was a pleasant surprise, so looking forward to 3y
sprainedbrain I own like all 6 of these and have read zero of them, so not a lot of hope for 3y

I had such a long, crappy workday yesterday, this morning I treated myself to the new SBUX iced apple crisp macchiato & fried rice w/ over-easy egg for breakfast on my way in. I hoped to have a little time to vet Persuasion adaptations to read for #Pemberlittens (my library has this e-book & the one tagged below available) before others came in & the crazy started. I got almost 10 minutes before it got nuts & now it‘s 3 hrs later.🤷🏻‍♀️

DebinHawaii The other one I am picking from: (edited) 3y
DebinHawaii P.S. isn‘t my new succulents mask cute? I got it at the craft fair this past weekend.🌵😷 3y

DebinHawaii @mdemanatee It was interesting m, maybe a little sweet for me. I liked it but didn‘t love it & I want to try it hot. I also recommend stirring it well before drinking it because my straw grabbed globs of the apple drizzle at the bottom. 3y
mdemanatee @DebinHawaii good to know! 3y

This book has been on my shelf for so long! I am happy to say I finished it! And with this finish I have my #BookSpinBingo Bingo AND a bingo for #JUMPSTART2021 !! The story is based on Persuasion by Jane Austen but set in a very different world where a genetic experiment went wrong and as a result any type of technology and experimenting are banned. There is still a love story, strong women and, of course, stars. #BFC21 #SHUTDOWNReadathonRound2

Clwojick Stunning cover! 😍 4y

TheAromaofBooks I've been meaning to read this one!! I accidentally read the sequel a few years ago because it was billed as a retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel - how could I resist?? But there were a few things I didn't “get“ when I read it - and then I found out it was actually a sequel! Now I want to read them both. 4y
Allylu @TheAromaofBooks I can send you this one. I actually have the other one, too, but I haven‘t read it yet. The Scarlet Pimpernel is one of my favorites. Let me know if you want this one. 4y
TheAromaofBooks I really appreciate the offer, but I actually got this one from Book Outlet for just a dollar or two this summer!! Now I just have to actually read it! 😂 4y

This was a page-turner romance, loosely based on Persuasion by Jane Austen. A light read for the end of 2019.🎄💕

Mehso-so

This says in the copy it's Austen meets the apocalypse. Based on Persuasion which happens to be my fave Austen - took me so long to get into it and there's backstory missing there's plot holes until the end. It did catch me as I read further but only because I was picturing BBC Persuasion in my head.

Blar! 😡😤 When your digital library loan ends as you're reading and there's a queue! I'm busy! Reading time eludes me! That's it...quit everything, call in sick, I need to read. Okay, no, I have to adult - I have bills to pay. 🤓😜

Ellsbeth I hate when that happens. I was happily listening to a good audiobook when another one with a long wait list came available. I had to drop the first (no waitlist, but good) and I'm trying to cram in the 2nd before the due date because I know it will be a long time before I can get it again if I don't finish. 😎 8y

My #favejaneaustenadaptation is based on my favorite, Persuasion. It is set in a dystopian future but feels like Georgian times because an event has transformed society back to a more countrified, Luddite way of life. Thankfully that is an interesting background and not overwhelming. It's mainly about the love story and family complications very faithful to the original - the new setting just allows some awesome tweaks to the story.
✨💖LOVE 💖✨

tricours Wow, sounds interesting! I think I should read Persuasion first though... 8y
