The Stand | 
I actually didn‘t add the wildcards until today, but they didn‘t really stand (ha!) a chance. I think the hardest decision was between The Stand and The Wolf and The Watchman, but The Stand is epic.
I also want to give a shout out to Starfish. I wish it had been around when I was 11. I cried a lot while I read it.

pickThe girl was thickkk at 1154 pages and I did it! It‘s so good. It‘s funny there were some illustrations in this book because they weren‘t needed even though they were cool. King paints a picture of all of his characters so perfectly. Even without the horror of a viral apocalypse I would have read books about Frannie, Stu, Larry, and Nick all on their own. King is so good at the psychology of his characters. Pick!
I just read the little prologue where Charlie wakes up Sally so they could get off base after he saw all those government employees dead of the virus. I turned the page to this and I just smiled. So excited to reread this.

Stephen King remains one of my favorite authors of all time! Even though his stories are mostly thought of as horror, many of them are also funny, witty, thought-provoking, and poignant! And some of his books are even life-changing - I'm looking at you, Rose Madder! 🩷

My pick for July is The Stand. It was a pick, but also so satisfying to have it off my TBR, lol. Hopefully my next King read won‘t take me so long.
pickI finally finished The Stand! Despite how long this took me to read (started in 2023, put it down for a long while, picked it back up earlier this year), this is another King pick for me. The extended reading time was all me, not the book.
Finished July 31, 2025.
pickWhile I'm never going to connect as closely to a story with biblical themes as someone with a Judeo-Christian religious background would, there's a lot that's human about this story, that benefitted from King taking his time, to develop not just the characters but their interrelationships.
It's ultimately a book about faith but also about choices, obviously I lean more to one than the other unless it's a faith in people, and I think that was 1/?

pickWell, my beat up old copy made it through another reread. The pages are a bit looser, and there are a few more cracks here and there, but it's hanging in. And it remains one of my favorite books of all time.

Little late with my #bookspin list, but here it is. 21-25 will be impulse reads. I've been in a slump for a few months it seems, so I'm hoping this and #hauntedshelf will help get my mojo back.
I reread The Stand every couple of years. Sometimes I listen to the audio, sometimes I do the ebook, but this time I was feeling nostalgic and pulled out my 1991 copy that was my first ever King experience. It's falling apart a bit (30+ years and multiple reads will do that), so I'm just hoping it'll hold together for this read.
Do you have any old books that you still pull out and read even though their condition is questionable?
pickThis was a re-read for me, and still one of my favorites by King. My answer to what I thought a pandemic would be like before we actually lived through one.
pickI was held hostage for over a month reading this brick. The book is too long and I didn‘t need all the details. Yet the fantastical prose combined with religious allegories kept me turning the page to see what was next. The book possesses several themes, but the greatest is that evil will always exist in the world and that it‘s up to us to overcome it. But be wary of power and political systems.

I managed to avoid it for almost four years now, but Captain Tripps finally caught up with me today! 😩😷 Fortunately I‘ve felt up to reading at times today! 🤓
Getting a late start on my new SK project this year (due to taking January to finish off last year's project). I still hope to average one a month and get through the 24 books on my extended Dark Tower list by the end of 2025. However, this utter brick of a book will take as long as it takes! I've loved his work for many many years, and it's still blows my mind that when I first read his books in high school I didn't like him as an author at all! 😱 But then I gave him another try and I read the stand a few years after that and it completely blew my mind and still remains one of my favorite books to this day! He is definitely one of my biggest comfort authors! 💕📚

pickI first read King‘s opus when I was 13 years old - the thought of a global plague as inconceivable as King‘s other supernatural creations. It was unsettling to reread this in the age of COVID, and while King‘s literal battle between God and the Devil may not be playing out today as he imagined, it‘s difficult not to sometimes feel that we might be living in a version of King‘s post-plague world. ⬇️
