When Stephen King isn't looking into the evil in the hearts of ordinary men, he is often projecting that evil in the form of Randall Flagg, who often goes by an alias that maintains the “R.F.“ initials.

Well, my beat up old copy made it through another reread. The pages are a bit looser, and there are a few more cracks here and there, but it's hanging in. And it remains one of my favorite books of all time.

Down to my last 3 words from the #hauntedshelf word search - thanks to The Stand, which really helped me out with 17 from the list. I'm thinking I need to find a witchy book for those last three -
Hallow, Equinox, and Cider
Any suggestions?

Little late with my #bookspin list, but here it is. 21-25 will be impulse reads. I've been in a slump for a few months it seems, so I'm hoping this and #hauntedshelf will help get my mojo back.
I reread The Stand every couple of years. Sometimes I listen to the audio, sometimes I do the ebook, but this time I was feeling nostalgic and pulled out my 1991 copy that was my first ever King experience. It's falling apart a bit (30+ years and multiple reads will do that), so I'm just hoping it'll hold together for this read.
Do you have any old books that you still pull out and read even though their condition is questionable?
This was a re-read for me, and still one of my favorites by King. My answer to what I thought a pandemic would be like before we actually lived through one.
I was held hostage for over a month reading this brick. The book is too long and I didn‘t need all the details. Yet the fantastical prose combined with religious allegories kept me turning the page to see what was next. The book possesses several themes, but the greatest is that evil will always exist in the world and that it‘s up to us to overcome it. But be wary of power and political systems.
“I‘ve come to teach you how to be civilized.”
I managed to avoid it for almost four years now, but Captain Tripps finally caught up with me today! 😩😷 Fortunately I‘ve felt up to reading at times today! 🤓
Getting a late start on my new SK project this year (due to taking January to finish off last year's project). I still hope to average one a month and get through the 24 books on my extended Dark Tower list by the end of 2025. However, this utter brick of a book will take as long as it takes! I'll catch up later.
1. When I'm most awake, whenever that is.
2. The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket.
3. The Stand, 1200 pgs.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After reading this big chonker I can't help but to feel accomplished, it's been awhile since I saw the miniseries so I forgot parts of the end so I was surprised at some of the emotional parts (at least for me)....loved this very LOONG book
When you‘re at the Ogunquit library, you have to look for their copy of the Stand! #iykyk #losersclub

1. Unpopular opinion but candy corn! Or Twix
2. Tagged book. Most Stephen King I‘ve read probably fits here
3. #teamglinda
4. Freddy Krueger. I‘m sure there are others because I‘m a wuss but I watched this movie when I was like 10 which I think is when my fear of horror movies started. I dream vividly so someone killing you in your dreams? Literally the worst for me 😂
5. Introvert, introspective, responsible

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEPHEN KING! 🎈🎈🎈
I've loved his work for many many years, and it's still blows my mind that when I first read his books in high school I didn't like him as an author at all! 😱 But then I gave him another try and I read the stand a few years after that and it completely blew my mind and still remains one of my favorite books to this day! He is definitely one of my biggest comfort authors! 💕📚
What's your favorite SK book? 🧐
I first read King‘s opus when I was 13 years old - the thought of a global plague as inconceivable as King‘s other supernatural creations. It was unsettling to reread this in the age of COVID, and while King‘s literal battle between God and the Devil may not be playing out today as he imagined, it‘s difficult not to sometimes feel that we might be living in a version of King‘s post-plague world. ⬇️
We are in the mountains at the SC/Georgia border and scored some grape and orange Nehi. #losersclub members probably recognize this from at least one or two #stephenking books!
This was a #SuperChunkster. It's really kind of too long. #ChunksterChallenge2023 @Amiable I am kind of speechless on what to think about this book. But being a The Walking Dead fan, humans really don't change. I managed to get one bingo spot in #ISpyBingoJune @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks. I also got a spot bingo on the #NSR23 @Nessavamusic. I am starting to think that I'm really not a Stephen King fan. I wanted to know what happened to Tom lol
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I started this #chunkster at the start of 2023 and read the final pages today. My first King in quite some time. Did not disappoint.
This Readathon will give me a reason to read this Chunkster. #20in4 #Readathon @Andrew65 My goal is 20 pages, 220 pages, perhaps 20 chapters, as the chapters are really long. @Amiable
I have two to finish and two I have been putting off. #MagnificentMayReadathon @Andrew65 These readathons make me start books I've been putting off
May 5 #MayMontage 22nd on TBR list. This one has been moved down over and over. It's it page amount that scares me. @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

My laws! This was a terrific story! King‘s longest book to date (the uncut version.) I never felt a lull in the story. I loved the characters, and how complicated they were. Over the years, I‘ve been told time and again to read this one or how it‘s a favorite of King‘s work by so many, and I‘m happy to say, this one lives up to the hype! I loved it!
It's the greatest novel of all time.
Every time I revisit this novel, it's like seeing old friends, I just love the characters.
Decided to go for a re-read of my favourite book. 📖❤️
Very very good but not my favourite King 4 ⭐️
One thing I love about Stephen King‘s writing is his inuendos about New England. Growing up primarily in MA & CT, it‘s been a while since I‘ve heard “ijets.” I may have remind my husband of this slang, he may have forgotten it 😂
Interesting that Storygraph has The Stand as my longest book, but Goodreads has The Ink Black Heart. Both were overly long, but overall I think The Stand warranted the epic length more.
I‘m planning to tackle this chunkster in 2023! I‘ve marked off ~100 page chunks which will help me hit goals each month to keep progress. Of course, if I‘m all about it, the markers are merely suggestions.
A masterpiece of horror and fantasy. Eerily prescient and provocatively confident. There‘s a good reason why many believe this is King‘s best book.
Who‘s in for #pop23 ??? I‘ve been reading over the list and decided to choose some of the prompts in advance that are either harder to fill or that I really want to read. The rest I‘ll just fill in as I go throughout the year. Also, I‘m really looking forward to reading The Stand 😂 Let us know if you‘d like to be tagged in ‘23! Everyone is welcome to play along! https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/reading-challenge-2023-49013480/amp
Did I need a third copy of The Stand? No. Well. Maybe. But when there are no more hardcover versions available anymore, and it‘s so pretty, and it‘s got gold edges on the pages and the endpapers have nuclear symbols all over it, you just gotta buy it 🤷🏻♀️ besides, one of my original copies is destroyed so I really only have two copies. The #losersclub gets it 🤣🎈
There's a reason many readers of King list The Stand as their favorite - it's an incredible book. The way King weaves so many disparate threads into an apocalyptic tapestry is masterful, and his ability to make you care for a plethora of characters is put to excellent use here. From the first inkling that something in the machinations of man has gone awry to the final sobering ruminations on our ultimate nature, this is a truly riveting read. 5/5
Well I‘m glad I read this after the pandemic! This was such an oddly creepy read with such and eclectic cast of characters. SK‘s world building is mind blowing. #chunkster #bookspin #TeamMonsterMash #Scaralthon @TheAromaofBooks @StayCurious
Gotta admit I'm a wee bit #scared of this book. Not so much the topic as much as the sheer size 🤣🤣. I can almost guarantee I won't finish it this month, but I'm definitely keeping it on my #bookspinbingo card/list.
