MsMelissa My focus for 2021 is not on reading more books, but reading books that better align with my reading tastes. By number, I read more last year than ever before, but very few of those books left a lasting impression on me, so in that sense I don‘t think I had a great reading year. For 2021 I‘ve decided to choose books I know I‘m more apt to enjoy. So far, although my numbers are down, I‘m a much more satisfied reader. 4y

Y‘all, I just removed the fb app from my phone. I‘m going to give it a go for a week. And try to read more. Garden. Spend time with the kiddo and his daddy. And maybe punch a reset on what the net is doing to my brain. Baby steps. Am keeping messenger for now. And Litsy. Undecided on Instagram - maybe for posting only?

I read between the months Jan-Nov 1 book in the living room, 2 books ( 1 non-fic and 1 Fic) for my bedtime reading ( alternate each night) 1 Kindle book and 1 audiobook

Then in Dec I have just 1 book in the living 1 book for bedtime reading, 1 Kindle book and 1 audiobook ,all Christmas books, as I work in retail and it's a busy time so I don't get much time to read.

While Litsy is still my favorite place online, Page Turners is a FB group that, so far, has very similar positive & kind community vibes. It‘s “closed” but easy to join, and I thought we all might enjoy an extra place for book-related solace— especially if we are expecting more maintenance here in our near future.

leslieisreading There's a lot of things that I could do if I spent less time on social media. And reading is certainly one of them, but I still read 65 or so books last year so I feel okay. It's all about finding balance, and I certainly have gone too far with the social media habit at times and tried to pull back. Litsy is a new distraction, but I have actually been reading more since I joined. 8y

saresmoore If it wasn't for Litsy, I might have more reading time, but I definitely wouldn't read as many good and diverse books! But Litsy is my only social media, so I don't suppose I have a well-rounded perspective. 8y

WhatDeeReads I've cut back significantly on my social media usage in the last month or two. I enjoy reading. It is not something I want to use to create shame for myself or others. When I feel like reading, I read. When I feel like scrolling through Facebook or Twitter, then I do that. I'm quite pleased with the amount of books I read last year, so I don't see cause for alarm. 8y

InLibrisVeritas I read about 120 to 140 each year, and while reading more would nice I'm okay with it as is. I'm a mood reader so if I don't feel like reading there is no helping that, even if I don't spend that time on social media. 8y

MyNamesParadise I like to unwind while playing games on my iPad like bubble witch saga 3 and cookie jam and now with listening to playaways I can multitask! 8y

Hooked_on_books Litsy definitely cuts into my reading time! 😂 But it helps me find amazing new books and connect with fellow book lovers. I previously used Facebook but haven't been on it for 7-8 months because I found it so poisonous. I don't miss it at all but I know it can be useful. I think it's really about balance, as with anything else. 8y

Bookwormjillk I don't know. When I'm on social media it's because I'm on a loud train, or the TV is blasting, or I'm at a crowded sports practice for one of my kids. In other words I turn to social media when I can't read a book. 8y

RebeccasReading I think the hardest thing is trying to read an ebook without going to social media first! I swear, I get so distracted by the notifications on my phone that I read about half as fast. Real books are the best, followed by my old Kindle. 8y

Paty1 I am not that into social media so I don't feel I lose that much reading time. But I do waste a lot of time watching movies, tv shows and youtube videos and although I really enjoy it I have decided to cutdown on these to read more from now on. 8y

KellyK I have cut back on my FB time quiet a bit. Litsy has taken up some of that time but I've gone from reading 20-30 books a year to reading 70+ books a year. 8y

TheLibrarian Litsy is pretty much the only social media I do except a little bit of Facebook so I don't feel like it takes away from my reading. And without Litsy where would I get all these great book recommendations!! 8y

Gissy I'm not in social media either. When I am not reading is because I working, spending time with family. But I enjoy to watch tv series sometimes when I need some space and I enjoy watch book reviews or interviews. I don't like ebooks or anything like that. I love to have that book in my hands! What I really will like is to be a fast reader like all of you so I could read more books. 8y

arlenefinnigan I do worry that I 'waste' too much time on social media that I could spend reading but really I've found that the more time I spend on Litsy/Bookstagram/BookFace etc the more reading I do. The enthusiasm is infectious. 8y

LauraKath Social media honestly consumes me. I confess I have a problem. Sometimes I'm glad I have a job that keeps me away from my phone. And yes, it makes me waste precious reading time. 8y

queerbookreader I think the article has a very fair point, but there are different purposes for reading vs social media. Reading is individual & takes time; social media is for sharing, communicating, innovating, networking, and instant satisfaction. Where's the fun in reading if you can't share your love for it? How can you learn and innovate if you don't communicate and interact with others? 8y

Redheadrambles Well I have thought a lot about this and I know that since actively reviewing and commenting on here and GRs I actually got through more books because of the joy of then talking about them. Sure in theory I could use that time to read but I possibly would do something else and not be so driven to get to the next book. 8y

zsuzsanna_reads I don't think I'd read any more if I wasn't on social media. I need "mulling over" time as well as reading time. I already feel I am reading too much with about 120 books last year and could do better with reading less, more carefully. But then everyone is different. I work for home, so social life via Facebook is a must since there's no other office social cooler! 8y

Soubhiville Since Litsy came along I spend less time on FB, and I don't do any other social media. I do sometimes find myself lingering on here for longer than I meant to, but I feel like it's time well spent, connecting and learning about new books! 8y

Matilda I wish people could make their point without having to dump on other things. The point can be made that you can cut into SM & TV time if you want more reading time without calling them both "trash." 8y

booksandsympathy With everything going on right now politically, I am spending less time on Facebook. Litsy helps me feel a bit better. I don't check Instagram very often and I'm not on Twitter. But Facebook does distract me from reading. Then I start to feel guilty. 8y

LeahBergen @Bookworm54 It is all the same bingo card; only the squares are moved around. I'm not quite sure why I picked this one! 😂 Goodreads is easy to figure out; you can do as much or as little as you want on it. You can just join this Litsy Challenge group if you want and nothing else. 😀 8y

Hobbinol These challenges look fun. I wish I weren't such a free spirit with my reading habits-- I like for one book to lead me to another if the adventure arises. I think that's why books stay on my TBR shelf forever! 8y
