This is a story that‘s very much “in a capsule of time,” as the pandemic plays a role in the novel. While romance is in the title, I‘d say this is romance light or at least an incredible slow burn. I didn‘t really feel the chemistry between Sally and Noah but I loved the platonic parts of it

A perfect holiday book; sharp, snappy, instantly absorbing yet easy to dip in and out of. This had all the elements I might have disliked in a romance; it‘s super cheesy, somewhat unbelievable, eye-rolling dialogue at times. Yet at the same time it just worked and I loved all those things too. I love Curtis Sittenfeld and kind of think she‘s a smarter, more knowing Anne Tyler. Her writing has that simplicity, yet she gets right to the crux of it.

There‘s a part of this rom-com novel where the MCs are separated by distance & COVID & communicate through emails & other electronic communication & a #LongDistanceLove begins to form. 💕
Finally getting around to this, on my recent work lunches and breaks. I am very much enjoying it.

1) My mother would not let me get my ears pierced so I once came back from an overnight Girl Scout trip with peace sign earrings that looked as if they were pierced. She didn‘t find it funny 😆
2) The tagged book is set around a SNL type show.
Tagging anyone who would like to play.
#LuckyInLove Day 26: Now this is #RomCom in the literal sense as can be seen in the title. I was entertained by the story which I read with my daughter for our book club of 2 last summer and she was laughing her ass off as she read the part on the email correspondence, because she thought it was very “old people flirting.” My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-pBl
#RomCom ❤️😂 #LuckyInLove 💋👩🏻❤️💋👨🏻💌💘

I liked this story a lot but the format was tough to get through in parts. Not a lot of chapter breaks and the last chunk of the book was a long one. Although, I did like how each chapter was written differently. I liked the relationship between Sally and Noah and the characters in this book. It felt very real to me and I enjoyed the fact that for a romance about a celebrity and a writer, it wasn‘t over the top for the most part.
⭐️⭐️⭐️This book was interesting because while there were aspects I loved-hello, e-mail romance, happy to see you again!-there were also things that I didn‘t love or were distracting from the main story. Sittenfeld had a lot of political comments to make, and they felt so heavy handed that it took me out of the story. But I did love the male main character, the side characters, and the real, if sometimes cringey, look at relationship anxiety, etc.
One of my favorite reads from 2023! I laughed out loud several times and loved the behind-the-scenes look at TNO. I think I also loved it because of how much I related to the protagonist. 10/10 recommend!
Wow! I almost set this book aside at the beginning because I couldn't quite get into it, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. The title doesn't do this book justice. Set prior to and during the pandemic, some of the conversations between the main characters, Sally and Noah, are very deep. At times, it was tough reliving pandemic life, but it was also reassuring that what we were all feeling was important enough for an author to document it in a novel.
I've been on a lucky streak with books lately. This is one I listened to on audio and really liked. Sally is a sketch writer for a tv show (exactly like SNL) who falls in love with a famous singer who is a guest host. One of the most realistic, relatable, funny love stories I've come across. It made my cooking and cleaning for Christmas fly by! I hope this gets made into a movie because it would be so good. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Surprised myself with how much I liked this book. I found it really sweet but in the best way. The SNL type setting was interesting and vivid and the character development was great - the chemistry between the characters was written well too. Enjoyable read 💕 #tbrtarot
Hairdressers is always reading time for me 😁
I love a book that has a strong setting. Enjoying it so far!
I liked this a lot but I didn‘t love it… a cute love story between two people from different yet intertwined worlds who find their way together in the pandemic…. Well written and easy to read!
To get guaranteed reading time, I accompanied my husband to the dentist.
Didn‘t love it but liked it A LOT.
It‘s gentle; no real dramatic highs and lows, but that was a good thing. The couple is in their late 30s and are mature and for the most part, well adjusted. I liked both of them 😊
What a joy! Sittenfeld in one of the wittiest writers I‘ve ever read. This story is about a comedy writer for an SNL style improve show who flounders through a developing romance with real and endearing clumsiness. I loved this book.
I‘ll admit, I thought I knew the story in this one and I avoided it for a while. Bucking all trends, a more attractive rockstar falls in love with a writer at an SNL-style show. It sounded like a gimmick, but the author gives the story depth. Much of it takes place during the pandemic and many of the anxieties the main character feels are so relatable. It‘s definitely not a romcom, more of a story of letting your guard down to let love in.
I liked, but did not love this book. Read along with #CampLitsy in August.
It had a great premise: female MC is a Tina Fey-esque writer for an SNL-esque comedy sketch show whose insecurities continually sabotage a potential romance with a super-famous musician. Clearly inspired by the Pete Davidson/Ariana Grande or Colin Jost/ScarJo relationships, I was fascinated by that aspect of the plot, but the FMC‘s attitude/behavior was a huge turn off.
Relatively cliche story with no real twists. The story was basically a woman overcoming her self esteem issues because a man loved them out of her. The dialogue wasn't anything special, which is unfortunate given that it was set in a spoof of SNL. You have to imagine that comedy writers would be funnier than what was portrayed here.
Ah, crap. I had this book on hold for a while, and then I got lucky and skipped the line. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. I'm not a fan of SNL (I don't even watch it), so I think that's one of the reasons. But I still wanted to try it since I do read romance and have seen good reviews. This would have been my first Sittenfeld book, too, but now I'm not sure if I even want to try something else of hers. I feel bad. 😞
I enjoyed this contemporary romance between a musician and a writer on a sketch comedy show (a lá SNL), but didn‘t love it. I think reading about sketch comedy is a tall order. Sketches that might be funny on screen, fell flat on paper. I would‘ve loved more growth/de-centering of men on Sally‘s part. I didn‘t find any deeper meaning if Sittenfield was trying for it, and instead got a garden-variety rom-com ready for syndication on TBS. 3⭐️
Good little love story about a writer of an SNL type show that falls for the talent. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What started out as a slow burn turned into an adorable, well, romcom that challenged societal norms and encouraged self confidence and love.
I greatly enjoyed @csittenfeld ‘s style and her uncanny ability to build characters that are both lovable and relatable. Give this one a chance, and you won‘t be disappointed.
Late to the party on this one and I did really enjoy it. What surprised me was that it seemed to me like a standard romance and with all of the hype it was given I was expecting some sort of new take on the genre. It was still a good romance with a relatable heroin and an interesting backstage view of working at a sketch comedy show like SNL. It made me laugh, it made me emotional so a pick for me.
A sweet and smart romance set an SNL-like show, where Sally, one of the writers, notices how the schlubby male comedians keep landing much hotter and talented girlfriends. And then…Sally herself seems to hit it off with one week‘s musical guest. But how can she trust that the formula works in reverse? Anyway I loved this whole thing.
1. I‘m not sure if I should include a (4th? 5th?) reread, so I will say it was the tagged book. Unless I finish something else in the next two days that I like better, but I don‘t think that will happen.
2. It was funny, light, and breezy but still had some substance.

We have an August winner for #camplitsy23 - Romantic Comedy!
Probably not much of a surprise, seeing as a lot of Littens either bailed on or disliked The Memory of Animals. However, not as much of a landslide victory as we may have thought; 27 votes to 11.
Our wonderful Camp Leader, Barbara, will be posting tomorrow for the opportunity to vote for your favourite book of the summer so keep looking out for her post!
#14Books14weeks I am way behind on this challenge, 4 and a half books behind .Soft pick for me,I love SNL , would probably liked nonfiction about the show better. I‘m not sure what I was expecting , the best part for me was the lockdown emails, just like writing letters in the old days where you can finish what you mean to say and longingly await the reply. #catsoflitsy Sophie wanted to model today.I did really like Noah, Sally ,Jerry,& Sugar!
Fairly cute and predictable romance with a plot that I won‘t remember a year from now. But I enjoyed it while I was reading it, so I guess that‘s something.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved both Sally and Noah. It was funny and serious.
1. Two Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock
2. At home, it was Glass Onion: a knives out mystery
In theaters, it was Barbie 🩷
3. Cooler temps! 🥵

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Set at an SNL-style sketch comedy show, Sittenfeld flips the script on hot, famous girl dates average-looking, funny guy. This was clever, if predictable. Fun dialogue / banter. I loved the Acknowledgements at the end; don‘t skip those. She mentions several worthwhile SNL memoirs.
Loved this SNL romance. I loved all the details of the week with a guest host and it was a sweet character driven romance! 100% enjoyable!
Sally Milz is a sketch writer for “The Night Owls” (think SNL) who has sworn off romance until she meets Noah Brewster, the host and musical guest. I loved the behind-the-scenes look at how shows like SNL work and that the story focused on a female comedy writer. The second half dragged a bit, but overall a charming love story.
Because how could anyone deserve you, let alone me? But I‘m also really grateful because I always wanted to feel disbelief at my own luck 📺🌃
