Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Nightmares and Dreamscapes | Stephen King
The long reach of King's imagination and the no-holds-barredis storytelling have never been so richly demonstrated. In story after story, several published here for the first time, King takes readers to places they've never been before. A veritable Stephen King "amusement park.

Day 26 #FallIsBooked - A Scary Book

This is my favourite Stephen King short story collection to date, but there‘s one story in here that is SO creepy: “Crouch End” 😱😱

Mehso-so

I have finally completed it! More than a year after first opening it.

There are a handful of stories in this collection that I really enjoyed, but most of them were just meh. I realize I may not be the fairest judge, as I often feel like I need more than a short story can give me. More detail, more character development, etc.

I think I can; I think I can....

I've been slowly meandering my way through this tome of #shortstories for OVER A YEAR! Yesterday, I made the decision that I will not start any new books until I have turned the last page of this one. Only 3 stories and the closing notes remain.

Comfy clothes on, beverage poured, cats fed. It's time. No one bother me--I'm reading!

I really enjoyed this book! Its been quite a few years since I've read this, perhaps more than a decade, so I thought I'd opt for the audiobook to get a different experience.
The stories are really enjoyable, and really varied; horror, sci-fi, a Sherlock Holmes story, notes from the author, its a mixed bunch, but well worth the nearly 27 hours of listening time!

I failed this #24in48 challenge. I've logged about 4 hours. Which is probably more than I would've done. I turned on the audiobook to fold instead of Netflix, so that's a win.

I'm not sure how to choose my actual bookends. My grandmother was moving and needed someone to take a Civil War era secretary desk off her hands. My husband was balking. So I had to make it appealing to him. I seem to arrange by covers.

#KingAtoZ

Y is for “You Know They‘ve Got A Hell Of A Band”, a story from Nightmares & Dreamscapes, a 1993 collection of mostly previously published material. The story concerns a young couple on a road trip in Oregon when they accidentally wander into a small town inhabited by dead rock and roll legends (the title is taken from a 70‘s rock song by Climax). It was adapted for TV as part of a TNT miniseries in 2006.

rohit-sawant Great pick! 👏🏼👏🏼 Didn't know it was adapted! 2y
GarthRanzz @rohit-sawant Thanks Rohit! I wasn‘t aware either. The miniseries is also where Umney‘s Last Case was adapted and one of my all time favourite stories from Night Shift; Battleground. But I was able to find all eight episodes and will be binging this weekend. 😊 2y

Vampire
When you think Vampires and King 'Salem's Lot pops into your mind first, but another terrific vampire story he's written is "The Night Flier," about a tabloid reporter who investigates a series of murders committed by a killer who flies from airport to airport in a private plane. Suspenseful, creepy & reminiscent of Matheson's Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
#KingAtoZ
@GarthRanzz

GarthRanzz I love Kolchak! But then I have a soft spot for Matheson. King‘s vampires are written so well and rooted in the Old World mythology. Great choice Rohit! Another lesser known work. 2y

It‘s just another ordinary day in 1930s Los Angeles for private investigator Clyde Umney, until a new client walks into his office. Umney soon learns that his client is the crime-fiction writer who not only created him, but now needs to switch places with him.

YouReadMyEyes That picture 😱😱😱 2y
YouReadMyEyes @batsy He‘s got some scary stuff indeed! Until recently, I had only read a couple of his books back in the 90‘s. I read 11.22.63 last year and loved it. No horror. It‘s time-travel and romance and adventure. I highly recommend it! 2y
See All 9 Comments
Reggie @batsy it‘s a good one to read. There‘s a story in there called Crouch End that gives me the creeps every time I think about it. AND it‘s like 1 of 2 stories where he doesn‘t tell you in the back where the inspiration comes from. Which kinda creeps me out even more. Give Full Dark No Stars a shot. I think you‘d like it. Four creepy novellas with what I think is some of his best stuff hidden in there. Salem‘s Lot is still my favorite, though. 2y
batsy @YouReadMyEyes and Reggie thanks for the recs! So much for love for him on Litsy and I've long thought I need to read more of him. I think I'll ease in with 11.22.63 and ease into the creepier stuff 😆 2y

Great collection of short-stories. Some of them are good, but most of them are great and they stick with you long after you finish reading them. There are some amazing gems in this volume (plus a non-fiction piece), as some old tropes turned into something new or reinterpreted. A great collection. 🤓

I may well return to them on a cold winter's night when I can't sleep, but in the summer sunshine I found my mind wandering too much which you can't afford to do with short stories.

Short stories/novellas are really not my thing. At least, not when they come all packaged together in one big book. I just have the hardest time reading them quickly. The short story by Stephen King that sticks in my mind most is The Ten O'Clock People from Nightmares & Dreamscapes. Smokers, trying to cut back, are capable of seeing something no one else sees. #StephenKing2017 #shortstories

rohit-sawant Loved that story so much! 3y

Story I'd most like to be in? Dolan's Cadillac... if Trump and Bannon can be in the Cadillac 😆. #stephenking17
