Another shameless attempt to import this Instagram trend to Litsy 🤣🤣

I just love making aesthetically pleasing pictures with my books!

These are all books about books 😊😇

Ruthiella Nothing wrong with doubling up your Litsy and Instagram pics! That‘s efficient. 👍 5mo

I love this idea. My 5 are somewhat obvious ones, but I can't help it. I love them. Make your list & share!
*“It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they elected the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York.“
*“All this happened, more or less.“
*“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.”
*“The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.“
*(#5 in the comments)

vivastory “The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years-if it ever did end-began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.“

Adding my #LastTenBooks to the discussion. I couldn‘t finish King Lear when we read it in my college Shakespeare class, so I watched the movie adaptation over Christmas break 😬
I don‘t know that I‘ve ever lost or couldn‘t find a book that I own? My house is … small.

Thanks for posting! Fun.

I found the following circulating on a few book blogs & thought it would be fun to post here. #LastTenBooks I'd love to see your answers, too!
1)Last Book I Gave Up On:
Michael Wilson's “Girl In The Video.“ This is what I wrote in my reading journal: Just couldn't care anymore. Even if I had only 10 more pages. I could have lied & said that I finished it. This was lurking in the kindle graveyard & as King said, “sometimes dead is better.“
2 (CON)

vivastory 2)Last Book I Re-Reread:
Gaiman's Fragile Things (A favorite this year that I had originally read Oct. 2018)
3)Last Book I Bought:
Richard Swan's “The Justice Of Kings.“ (Bk 1 of a fantasy trilogy that I have heard high praises from booktubers that I trust)
4)Last Book I Said I Read But I Didn't:
I don't believe in guilty pleasures, so this one doesn't really apply
5)Last Book I Wrote In The Margins Of:
James Baldwin's “Price Of The Ticket“

(edited) 9mo
vivastory 6)Last Book I Had Signed:
I just received an order from B&N for Johnson's “Let's Go Play At The Adams“ signed by Grady Hendrix w/ a note “Enjoy the trauma“ Lol
7)Last Book I Lost
I have been in a mood for thrillers this week & while looking I could not find Raybourn's “Killers Of A Certain Age“
8) Last Book I Had To Replace
A few months ago I checked out a graphic novel that for the life of me I could not find when it was due, so I replaced it
(edited) 9mo
vivastory 9) Last Book I Argued Over:
I don't really argue over books. I see that different books serve various purposes for different readers at stages in their lives.
10)Last Book I Couldn't Find:
Y'all, I have been meaning to get a better organizational method in my library for awhile now but it will be a project that would make Marie Kondo cry. I think the last book I couldn't find was “Killers Of A Certain Age“ bc I'm not giving it up for lost lol

*I def have a list of authors I would like to try: Robert R. McCammon, Michael McDowell, George Eliot, Stendhal, Jennifer Egan, Zora Neale Hurston, Barbara Pym, Peter Straub.
*Bird Box (although I do want to say I LOVE Malerman's other books), The Silent Patient
*The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll had a massive impact on me. It was my gateway to exploring poetry.
#wondrouswednesday @eggs

Eggs Thanks for playing! I had read House at the Bottom of a Lake (meh) so I read Bird Box but was disappointed; I didn‘t watch the film. Did you? 9mo

Since the beginning of the year I have seen several videos from content creators speaking about how they want to read fewer books this year, Perhaps they feel they are Bibliobibuli. “The sort of people who read too much,“ created in 1957 by H. L. Mencken. To this I say hogwash. Or, if you prefer, codswallop. “language, behavior, or ideas that are absurd and contrary to good sense“ (Merriam Webster)
@cbee
(CONT)

vivastory *sidenote (obviously if these creators wish to read less, then that is certainly their choice. It becomes a bit annoying when they start making sweeping generalizations on how reading habits can affect other readers)
#weirdwords
(edited) 12mo
CSeydel That‘s so interesting. I can understand wanting to read fewer books if you want to dig into longer books, or slower reads that take time to digest. I myself don‘t like the competitive aspect of reading a certain number of books per month, because I get too focused on hitting my target book count and I don‘t really absorb what I read. (edited) 12mo
BarbaraBB Great illustration 12mo

LeahBergen The only time I‘ve thought about actually reading fewer books is when I was previously caught up in my Goodreads count. Not any more! I‘m getting back to my love of big, honking, immersive novels and just allowing myself to READ. 12mo
Cathythoughts Lovely picture ♥️ 12mo
Cathythoughts @LeahBergen That‘s inspiring talk Leah 😘 12mo
batsy That is mind-blowing to me; I've never thought of reading fewer books 🤯 I'm on board with your response 📚📚📚 12mo
quietlycuriouskate I refuse to approach my reading as if it were a feckin' diet! 12mo
Tamra My reading plans are always quite achievable; read what I like, when I like. 😁 12mo
AmyG Ha! Who wants to read LESS? 😳 12mo
CBee @LeahBergen I actually just decreased my GR goal for this exact reason. I was too caught up in that “goal” and it was derailing me from really immersing myself. Which is the point of reading! ♥️ 12mo
MaureenMc @LeahBergen @CBee Yes, wholeheartedly agree! 12mo
Megabooks Thanks for sharing, Scott! I am reading less this year but it‘s a function of writing more. But I‘d never presume to tell anyone else how much or what to read. However, their pronouncements probably boost their engagement. 🙄 12mo
Hooked_on_books How bizarre that someone would want to read less? I have a feeling I read far more books than these people and I certainly don‘t want to read less. 12mo
Aimeesue I confess that I want to read fewer BAD books, but that‘s as far as I‘ll go with that. But I suppose it depends on why someone‘s been keeping count. I can see how it could become a performative thing that doesn‘t really bring the bookjoy, particularly among content creators. 12mo
vivastory @CSeydel I can see that. I don't aim for a certain number per month, but if I'm reading a lot & enjoying it then I'm going to keep reading 12mo
vivastory @LeahBergen There's nothing quite like getting lost in a 500 page novel 12mo
vivastory @batsy 🙌 🤘 12mo
vivastory @quietlycuriouskate Lol, right?! There's already enough rules we have to follow in the world. Our reading lives should be the one place for freedom 12mo
vivastory @Tamra That's my motto & it has yet to fail me 🙂 12mo
vivastory @AmyG Right?! 12mo
vivastory @Megabooks I suspect you're right re: engagement I hope your writing is going well! 12mo
vivastory @Hooked_on_books I def think you read more than a lot of the big content creators. It just seems like a weird thing to put out into the book community lol Like if you were involved in the movie community would you release a video to tell people to not watch as many movies? It's just strange to me 12mo
vivastory @Aimeesue There are some content creators that I genuinely enjoy but there are some that you can tell where it is a performative thing for them. 12mo

1) The ONLY challenge I have at the moment is my GR reading challenge. I am currently on track to meeting it,
2) I would like to get caught up with the big horror releases of the past couple of years by the end of the year, but I am going to continue to mostly follow my mood. Life is stressful enough that if I force myself to read something that I am not in the mood for at the moment, it'll put me in a slump & I don't need the added stress.

I finished Cold Enough for Snow, my first book for #AuldLangSpine, which was lovely.

After more than a year of (mostly not) reading it, I finally finished Blonde

Currently reading An Exquisite Corpse for bookclub, so Celestial Harmonies, The Rainbow, and The She-Devil in the Mirror are paused.

Also slowly reading through the tagged, which is excellent.

📚I don't watch TV, outside of movies & the occasional binge watch of a season. Reading is important to me, so I make time for it like people make time for important things in their lives.

Post 2 of my #independentbookstoreday #bookhaul -just the books. Jane Mount the illustrator is a delight. I had to include a better pic of her card for my bookstore with local books that was a freebie in this one. I bought 2 Adam J. Kurtz books that he signed & then a book of his journal stickers. I have been wanting “The Book of Difficult Fruit” & got “The Path to Kindness: Poems of Connection and Joy” because poetry was discounted & I vibed ⬇️

DebinHawaii …with it. The 4 books on the right were my freebies—a YA #ARC & then Oceanic (poetry), Swell (woman traveling alone on a sailboat) & Cereal (UK travel & style magazine with a collecting theme that I plan to use the images in for journaling). 3y

MittenGirlPeach We‘re forecast for up to 16 inches here in southern Michigan, but no complaints, since we don‘t have to go out in it. Stocked up on goodies today, and got my library holds last week! 3y
vivastory @Branwen 15-18 inches?! I haven't seen that much snow since I lived in Minneapolis! Although I left the Boy Scouts after one meeting, I have always adhered to the motto of Be Prepared when it comes to stretches of potential glorious cozy reading time! Fingers crossed for you that you get a snow day! I'm curious-how far in advance do they notify you? I ask bc I work in the health field & for the past couple of days I have been receiving (cont.) 3y
vivastory @Branwen calls from dr. offices notifying of closures, but I don't see anything on my library site about possible weather related closure. 3y
vivastory @MittenGirlPeach Nice!! Enjoy 3y
Branwen @vivastory Thanks! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for sure! 🤞🤞🤞 Usually though, it takes A LOT for us to be closed. If your library is anything like mine- they hate confusing/inconveniencing patrons and will mostly stay open through just about anything! In any case, it's usually a last minute decision. I am reeeaaaally hoping that this time there will be enough snow to actually close! I doubt we will tomorrow, but I'm hoping for Thursday! 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jane Mount begins with “The goal of this book is to triple the size of your to be read pile.” Mission accomplished. Filled with beautiful artwork of books, authors, and bookstores, Bibliophile is a necessary addition to any devout reader‘s home library.

Gisela, what a lovely package! ❤️❤️❤️ I am so excited to read the books you choose (and I absolutely love the covers!) and what a pretty book journal! Such a cool idea for saving thoughts, quotes, etc. from books read. A fun mug for fall with its own matching coaster (I always need coasters!), P&P socks?, and very cool bookends! Bell and Ted totally approve ?? And the most delicious turrón! Thank you so much!

LeahBergen What a gorgeous parcel. I love the bookends! 3y
Chrissyreadit 😍😍😍🙌😍😍😍 3y
Gissy I‘m glad you liked it. I thought the bookends were so cute. It took forever but finally it arrives🤗❤️❤️❤️ I gave that turrón to some friends this year and they love it. They said that I need to give them it every Christmas as a tradicional gift☺️ 3y

mabell @LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit @batsy Such a fun package! The bookends are truly unique - and quite fitting for my golden age mysteries 😄 3y
mabell @Gissy I love everything! I‘ve been meaning to redo my mantel, so I think I will put the bookends there with special books I‘m looking forward to reading ? The turrón is just so good! It really could be a delicious tradition! ? Thank you so much! ❤️ 3y

If you loved Bibliophile, you‘ll love this one, too—a book about books dedicated to books by authors and illustrators of color. Fabulous! And may I state for the record that I feel all books should come with their own attached ribbon bookmark.

vivastory I hope to get this over the next week or so. And I completely agree about the ribbons! 3y

My #Scarathlon2021 total is 44,000!

It made me so weirdly happy that it ended up so even like that, lol. I read 8 novels, 2 novellas, 1 graphic novel, 2 collections and 102 picture books; I listened to 2 novellas and a bunch of spooky short stories.

Thanks @Clwojick & @StayCurious for all your hard work!!! It was, as always, so much fun! ❤🖤🤍

Look what just came through my letterbox 💕 @Graciouswarriorprincess

(I already had the original Bibliophile) the goal of which was to triple my TBR (ha!). The goal of Diverse Spines is to find and read lots of books written by people from different backgrounds ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

I think I'm going to retreat from the world into my bookish cave for a while 😊🦋

Graciouswarriorprincess I have both books! Enjoy!!!! 3y
vivastory I can't wait to get the new Bibliophile book! I hope to order a print from her sometime next year. Narrowing down the books to include will be agony 📚📚📚 3y
See All 10 Comments
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory Oh my goodness... I didn't realise she did prints... and mugs too 🥰 Wow!!! I think my 10 would be One Day (Nicholls), Royal Assassin (Hobb), A Game of Thrones (Martin), A Prayer for Owen Meany (Irving), Catch-22 (Heller), Noughts & Crosses (Blackman), Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Christie), Norwegian Wood (Murakami), The Bell Jar (Plath) and then either Saga or something by David Mitchell 😄 3y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory She doesn't have my favourite book (Glass Books of the Dreameaters) & she doesn't have Strangers on a Train which would definitely be a pick!!! There are so many books on the list that I suspect I will love once I've read them too... gaahhh again 🤣 3y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory Oh wait!!!! Hyperion (Simmons), that's got to be my 10th... but then what about Dune which was also awesome 3y
vivastory Your 10 choices are excellent! I have read most of them & just added Noughts & Crosses to my TBR. I have read only 2 David Mitchell books (Slade House & Cloud Atlas) but I *loved* both of them. I read Patricia Highsmith for the first time during the past year & am def planning on diving into more of her work, including Strangers on a Train. I love the Hitchcock film. I have heard nothing but great things about Hyperion. There are a couple of 3y
vivastory Simmons books that I have been meaning to read & that is def on the list! 3y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory Aww thank you! 😊 Noughts and Crosses is YA, I read it when I was in my teens, so if you don't like it, blame my younger self, haha. David Mitchell is a beautiful writer. Strangers on a train is even better than the film (and different). Highly recommend it. I've got Carol & Mr Ripley on my shelf to read too. Hyperion is incredible. Canterbury Tales in space! One of my top 5 probably. Weirdly, I haven't yet read the follow up (it 3y
RaeLovesToRead doesn't exactly stand alone), but that's on my to read once I've re-read the first. You'll have to let me know which 10 you eventually choose! 3y

Y‘all. When I sold my townhouse earlier this summer, my husband said I should get one thing I really, really wanted. I have been wanting a custom picture from Ideal Bookshelf for about a decade. I am so excited about this! It came out fantastic & I love it! I can‘t wait till there are walls in my library to hang this up on!
