#bannedbooksunday Book#1 this week. This book was banned in a Virginia school as part of 21 books they removed due to "sexually explicit content". In response to the ban King wrote a tweet recommending people read books that get banned to find out why they don't want you to read it.
This was the longest book I read this year at about 850 pages, and I couldn‘t put it down. After a couple week reading dry spell while having a holiday preview at the bookstore (we opened for 5 days in about half the space we will ultimately use), it was so great to get lost in this book. It was my first Stephen King and a gripping historical fiction/speculative book about a man going back to the 60s to stop the JFK assassination. Last of 2024!

I wanted to like this book. The historical stuff is impeccable but it got kind of repetitive and I really didn‘t care about Jake/George.
If I had had only a few hours left, I would‘ve soldiered on but I couldn‘t make myself finish the last 13.5 hours.
Glad to see that some things don‘t change, even in my prolonged absence… I still struggle to post images on Litsy.
For those who ❤️ #TheStoryGraph, did you see this cool new thing we can do? I love it so much, it made me want to post something somewhere. 😉
If you squint really hard and hold your mouth just right you may be able to see the books I read in June, with ratings. An overall mediocre month, but I loved some of them a whole lot!
By the time I was old enough to understand that President Kennedy was assassinated,I was very surprised to learn that it happened before I was born.It was a big part of my life as a child. There were paintings of John John and Caroline as children at their father‘s funeral hanging on my bedroom wall.Stephen King‘s alternate version of this story is brilliant. I absolutely loved this book, and have a feeling I‘ll carry it in my heart for a long time
11/22/63 is a love story masquerading as a time travel romp. While the central premise hinges upon our narrator traveling back in time to prevent Kennedy's assassination, the beating heart of this book is his budding romance with the winsome librarian who blows into town and sets his carefully choreographed trajectory astray. 11/22/63 also presents a sweetly nostalgic, yet often uncompromising portrayal of 1958-63 America, warts and all. 5/5
Almost insufferable to listen to, but I‘m a completionist and wanted to finish my first Steven King book.
The main character‘s motivations aren‘t clear enough for me to buy into this entire plot. What drives him and why? What is he afraid of? What propels him forward?
I don‘t think the narrator helped. Sadie‘s dialog was cringy when read on audio.
In October, I read my first #StephenKing novel (IT) and then my second, third and fourth. IT still remained the best, with 11/22/63 close behind. I don‘t think his endings are as bad as many people say they are, but I have to agree that he describes his female characters terribly.
Anything else by King I should read? I‘m eyeing The Stand or The Institute.
I‘m in a presidential mood I guess. Reading 11/22/63 and watching West Wing.
I did it! Finished! 4.5⭐️ #chunkster
How does this guy know which year the birth control pill was commercialized?
Why does this guy immediately get on board with this idea to try to change history? It‘s quite the investment to spend 4 years on this extremely risky, uncertain and challenging plan. What‘s his hope if he saves JFK? What does he think will happen and why is it so important?
This book was amazing! I had previously avoided Stephen King novels because I assumed they were all horror but I stumbled across this by accident and it was perfect. The cross between science fiction and historical fiction was excellent and I love history. There are a few portions that made me cringe a little bit because they were violent and very bluntly written but otherwise amazing.
Not that I was planning on reading any of King‘s horror books (I have nightmares over horror film trailers on TV), I know without a doubt in my mind now that I will never, ever pick any of his horror books up. I wouldn‘t sleep again, his world creation is the BEST I‘ve come across. Mr. King is one heck of a storyteller 🤯 100 pages at a time would fly by because you cannot help but get hooked and are utterly engrossed in the story. (cont‘d 👇)
A masterpiece for many reasons, and in many ways. But when I really sit and think about this book, after what is now my third or fourth time reading it, I come back to one story element, the most simple of them, and yet the soul of this book: Jake and Sadie.
11/22/63 is definitely one of Stephen King's better novels. It was very well researched, especially regarding Oswald. I felt he also did a good job of bringing out both the good and bad of American society in the late 50s and early 60s. Once you know what Jake is attempting, you want to move quickly to Dallas. At times it seems the love interest with Sadie and the town of Jodie is too drawn out. I guess it makes the stakes higher for Jake. 4/5. 👇
If you‘re only going to read one Stephen King, pick this one!

A heck of a book. I FINALLY finished it after stopping and starting it over and over again. I‘m just completely lost for words about how to review this. 5⭐️
Although it was a big, heavy book, I really enjoyed it. It had several stories intertwined aside from the JFK/Lee Harvey Oswald story. I‘m usually not a fan of Stephen King, but to my surprise I found this story entertaining.
Since I was home sick part of this week, I decided to finally tackle this one. It was so good!!!!
With so many jaw-dropping moments and unexpected twists, King will keep you enthralled for the whole story.
The worlds that you can get lost in with King as your guide are limitless. This story of time travel, the opportunity to change an outcome from bad to good, and the earthshattering butterfly effect create such a mind-bending read.

Well it was MASSIVE! Took me to 3 weeks to read but it was totally worth it! This book is perfectly written, one of the best Stephen King novel. There were no filler episodes every part had something meaning.

I really enjoyed this book. I especially loved catching up with some old friends from It. Because of course King can't help connecting his books. Jake discovers a way back in time. So he goes back to try to stop the Kennedy assassination.

A diner owner with unreasonable low prices keeps his costs down because he buys beef in 1958, gets his best customer involved in a scheme to change the world for the better. At first, he‘s not convinced but a tragedy from a student‘s past inspires him.
Loved it. I honestly don‘t know much about the different conspiracies, but the history is balanced well with the relationships & characters. It never felt like a slog.

Reread this for #losersclub and #tbrtarot. I could start over right now and read it again. Great book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Im just starting this months #losersclub reading As a fellow New Englander I appreciate how much time he has spent bemoaning Moxie. But there‘s an error on the notation about the comics - Captain Marvel didn‘t start its first run until 1967
Started this the other day and boy, do I love Stephen King! It‘s also fun rereading it with the #losersclub.
4✨This was a beast, but it didn‘t really seem like it. I loved how engaged I was in the story. One man goes back in time to save JFK from assassination. Yet, changing the time line causes consequences. Is it really better? Even though it was a hefty book I found myself still wanting more. I would say my only complaint minus the main characters I forgot who a few people were so their relationships to one another was challenging. #losersclub
I started reading Stephen King in November of this year. I read Later first, followed by Shawshank Redemption, then I picked up 11/22/63. 11/22/63 was my last and favorite book of 2022. I fell in love with the characters. I even found myself (momentarily)empathizing with the characters I thought I would hate. I was completely drawn into this story and found myself fantasizing about a time filled with cigarette smoke and absent of social media.

I burned an Audible credit on this one since I‘m on a book buying ban and the library was out. My boyfriend has wanted to watch the series since it came so I‘ll be watching after reading.
#losersclub it‘s time for our last book of 2022! We have until January 31st to finish this one though, since we will start our first book of 2023 on February 1st. Be sure and tag me if you list your version of the book, I‘m not sure if there are many different covers of this one, though. #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion
Ok #losersclub we will be starting 11/22/63 on December 19th, so put in that library hold, check your local recycled reading store, or pluck it off your bookshelf and get ready! Did you know that this book was made into a series on Hulu? It‘s really good! #StephenKing #StephenKingInOrder #KingFromTheBeginning #ConstantReader #ReadAlong #BuddyRead #BookDiscussion
#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView
(1) If it's set before I was born, that feels historical enough for me. That said, most of the HF I read takes place way earlier, pre-20th century.
(2) 11/22/63 has its spooky moments.
Thanks for the tag @The_Penniless_Author 😊
Would you like to play @jlhammar @ReaperOfTerrasen ?
Hmmm, tough call for me. I like both!
For alternate history, my favorite is the tagged book. Jasper Fforde‘s books are also quite fun
For Post Apocalyptic: Station Eleven and The Stand are standouts for me.
