I like reading Will Storr‘s books. He‘s endlessly curious about modern life and culture and goes looking for answers everywhere. This book is about the self esteem movement that originated in California and spread everywhere. It was in classrooms all over America and in Europe. But it went too far and produced a generation of narcissistic young people. And it may have helped to give us Donald Trump (though I doubt it).

I love seeing all the selfies! This is one of me and my dad, taken at the zoo last weekend. My husband and I took my parents because it's my mom's favorite place, and she got to try out her new scooter. I love how neither of us has any idea where to look.

Storr's commentary and historical analysis are smart and interesting.
