This is simply one of the most terrifying novels King has ever written. King mixes religion, grief, family, aging, and the afterlife into a masterpiece of a slow-burn horror novel highlights his skill as a writer. It will remind you of the works of Poe and Lovecraft as King takes us through this five-decade-long story. The incredible character development allows the reader to get into the main characters' minds, making the story even more stark.
I can see why folks might be put off by the ending of this one if they're not expecting it. I personally felt that King did a lovely job dropping hints throughout regarding the inevitable destination of this journey. I've always been a fan of the way King utilizes foreshadowing, which can be somehow both subtle and blunt, and Revival did not disappoint in that regard. Throw in a fantastic narrator, and I was captivated throughout. 4/5
Just started today. This is one I‘ve been wanting to read for awhile now.
I have to say I definitely did not see this wtf ending coming 😂 I actually enjoyed the book for the most part and was interested to see how it was going to wrap up but once it started getting weird at the 90% mark I kind of set it aside but was reminded to pick it up again after I got some really bad ant bites over the weekend. 🤣 🐜🚪 #losersclub
It's not my favorite King novel. The book was really slow, and the ending was absurd. Reverend Jacob's is really fascinated by electricity and the effects it has on people, especially those who are sick. It doesn't end well.

This just got crazier & crazier as it went.
I marvel at SK‘s ability to start with 1 story & lead to several unexpected places, there are lulls but it all pays off in the end. Quite shocking, literally & figuratively.

Started #losersclub reading today while commuting. Decided to audiobook it since I didn‘t find a copy in my travels over the weekend. 🎧
Always good narrators on SK though, so can‘t complain.
We are going camping for a few days, think I brought enough? 🤣🤣 I like choices!
Next up.

One of King‘s most haunting endings, and also some of his best writing about the power of music and young love. An underrated gem.

Nice little Little Free Library find 🤩
Oh boy, just finished this one. It‘s been 2 years since I‘ve read King, I won‘t let that happen again. I‘m not sure if I will remember this one in 2 years, truthfully, but it was an interesting ride in the King reading amusement park. 4⭐️
It's been a long time since I've been properly, jaw-dropping *horrified* by a novel. For all that Stephen King is known for less than stellar endings, this one he knocks out of the damn park; and while I can quibble that he slightly overdoes the full-circle callback stuff in the last third...screw it, this book earned it, with not another weak spot in sight. Emotionally and thematically resonant throughout, this is my favorite King novel by miles.
Another from one of my favourite writers Stephen King. Also not a horror but an incredible story of the Christian revival tents and a travelling preacher with a supernatural twist. #alphabetgame. Also honourable mention for the classic Rebecca by Daphne du Maurice
Ferry reading 🚢
#FestivePhotoChallenge Day 18 I‘m sharing another #FestiveDrink with everyone. I tried the Winter Spice Latte from Revival Cafe - “lightly spiced with a homemade Szechuan peppercorn syrup” - and it is definitely my favorite (nonalcoholic) holiday drink ever! I will be tempted to order them all winter. I wonder if I could find a recipe for peppercorn syrup…? #WinterGames2021 #TeamGameSleighers @StayCurious
I always enjoy stephen king but it‘s pretty rare for me to actually be scared scared of his books. This one was properly scary. It was a slow build but the end was truly scary, and I loved the combination of lovecraftian cosmic horror with classic stephen king small town New England settings.
My first post on Litsy! Figured I would kick this account off with some short reviews of what I‘ve read so far this year☺️📖📚
I just recently finished Revival by Stephen King—and damn, this book is gnarly⚡️💀
A guitarist forges a lifelong, intertwined destiny with a minister-turned-atheist who has a dark and otherworldly goal. Compelling slow-burn and lengthy buildup—with a heavy payoff. The ending is a true nightmare. #ShortReview #StephenKing
#stephenking I see a lot of people posting their SK collections, so I figured I‘d join in!!!
Currently reading Desperation and I‘m loving it!! Just received Christine and Revival yesterday.
Love SK, I know he has called himself The Big Mac and Fries of Literature, but he‘s a Beyond Meat burger deluxe for me😀
Made my bingo card for #BookSpin. Fun fact: I acquired this month‘s pick from a library book sale cart the day after I saw someone mention it here 😅 #BlameItOnLitsy
Wow. That was dark. King is such a master. That ending. This one is underrated. It‘s amazing. It won‘t really hit you until the end. But it will hit you hard.
The hubby and I just came up from our basement. Where we were attending a “celebration of life”. On zoom. This virus... it‘s killing people we know... and changing how we say goodbye. I‘m going to wallow with a baileys hot chocolate and a good book. Stay safe, Littens.
I just can‘t decide what to read next. So I think I‘ll go with some King. Even when he‘s bad, he‘s good.

This book broke my heart within the first 75 pages. It got me thinking about things I haven‘t thought about in years, which showed up in my dreams last night. This story is bleak, and has the ability to throw one into an existential crisis. I would have given it 5⭐️ but wasn‘t a fan of the ending. His writing is stellar as always. My heart hurts. 4⭐️

I haven‘t been reading much in print lately as life has been interfering and I find myself vegging out to T.V. more (currently bingeing CSI:NY). Even so, I managed to listen to enough audiobooks to get a free book from my library‘s summer reading program. #free #librarylove #sapl #overthemoon #somanykingstoread
The overall theme of this book is about the people that come and go in our life. The ending is somewhat like Lovecraft , and borders in the sci-fi genre. The speech Charles Jacobs gives in this book gave me chills. It is worth reading for that monologue alone. It also juxtaposes faith with atheism. Based on those elements I would recommend this book. If you read it , I hope you find it as entertaining as I did.
“On the way home I remembered a bit of old folklore about how to boil a frog. You put it in cold water, then start turning up the heat. If you do it gradually, the frog is too stupid to jump out. I don't know if it's true or not, but I decided it was an excellent metaphor for growing old.”

Wow! That was bleak. I know it is Stephen King...but boy, was it bleak. The antagonist‘s arc was the most interesting and is what kept it a pick for me. His endgame is able to be surmised quickly, but the resolution is put off for so long, I began to wonder how and even if it was going to happen. If you like a slow burn story about obsession, addiction, and death (and ants) - this is your book.

“We came from a mystery and it's to a mystery we go. Maybe there's something there, but I'm betting it's not God as any church understands Him. Look at the babble of conflicting beliefs and you'll know that. They cancel each other out and leave nothing.”

Different from all the other King novels I‘ve read, but not in a bad way. The actual horror element was the part I liked the least, it felt out of place and didn‘t have much effect.
“But who is screenwriting our lives? Fate or coincidence? When I think of Charles Jacobs, I can‘t bear to believe his presence in my life had anything to do with fate. It would mean that all these terrible things - these horrors - were meant to happen. If that is so, then there is no such thing as light, and our belief in it is a foolish illusion.”
