I've tagged the only really necessary one, but feel free to read any of the Edgeworth/Burney books.

Jenni @sprainedbrain can you tag any new members since reading Sense and Sensibility please?

Smarkies Thanks for suggesting this Jennifer! 4y

This book is a great little book I listened to it on audio.
There are some ladies in this book I don't agree with but the others it was nice to learn a bit more about them.
Last book of the readathon. @Andrew65

TrishB I can see one on the front I don‘t agree with! (edited) 4y
Boooooks @TrishB same for me I‘m pretty sure most people round where I live hated Margaret Thatcher 😬 4y
Boooooks Looks interesting though I would like to find out more about Elizabeth I and Jane Austen and the impact they had 4y

TrishB @Boooooks I‘m from Liverpool, there is definitely no one here that likes Thatcher! My son has a hoodie on today that says Still Hate Thatcher! 4y
kaysworld1 @TrishB the section on her is about her life and how she got started before becoming primeminister, it's interesting about who and how she got her nicknames. 4y
Andrew65 Love the sound of this book, but I hate Thatcher too. I did most of my Thatcher years in Brixton, London but last 4 years in Sunderland. Both areas had a LOT of hate for her. I was a very able child in school (always at top of each class for maths I was in) left with good O Levels and A Levels (going to same secondary school as Ken Livingstone - since demolished!) but still ended up on the dole queue! @TrishB @Boooooks (edited) 4y
Boooooks @TrishB similar here in St. Helens with our town used to be a mining town I‘m pretty sure there were a few parties when she died 😬 4y

After a couple of months of reading small chunks in bed, I‘ve finally turned a corner and am loving this. I read 120 pages of this last night and only stopped bc my eyes kept closing. Hoping to get tucked in to it again this afternoon.

Makes me want to reread Evelina, which was wonderful.

LeahBergen I still need to read Burney. One day! 5y
Tamra A chunkster!! 5y
LauraBrook @LeahBergen I‘m surprised you haven‘t read her yet! I predict you‘ll love her. 5y
LauraBrook @Tamra Absolutely! I‘m getting a work out holding this up all the time. (It‘s my favorite kind of workout.) 5y
readordierachel Love that feeling, when a book finally starts clicking 🙂 5y

One Bingo completed! Think I should get double points because it's a #femaleauthor writing about a female author 😂😂😂! 3 🌟

#TIL that St James's was used only for state occasions by George III; when in town, the Royal Family resided in the Queen's House at the end of the Mall, which had been bought by George III in 1762 and was later transformed into Buckingham Palace by his son.

jenniferw88 77 +1 participation +3 #til +5 book completed = 86pts in total 5y
jenniferw88 The book is OK and a good intro to her life and work, although if you want analysis of the novels it's probably not one of the better choices. In fact it would probably be best to choose a book where she's compared to other writers at the time for this. 5y
jenniferw88 Also, the text is quite small so if you struggle to read the print, audio/ebook/large print might be the way to go. 5y

@Eggs #spooktober For #breastcancerawarenessmonth my pick is author Frances Burney, who had breast cancer in 1811 and had a mastectomy - without anesthesia. She went on to live for another 29 years and wrote about her experience.

Kaila-ann 😱😱 that‘s impressive. 5y
KristenDuck Wow! I had never heard this before. 5y

And if I can get some of these read over #24b4Monday that will be great! @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65

julesG I still have to read Black and British. I liked Olusoga's TV documentary. He also had an appearance in an episode about black people in the Victorian era of 5y
Andrew65 Some great choices, good luck with the Readathon. 😊👍 5y

Catchup, I listened to this over an extended period and really enjoyed it. It‘s a very personal selection and was read by the author. If you like these sort of anthologies then you shall enjoy, but there isn‘t a lot of deep analysis although I did learn some new things.

scripturient I thought that the author was such a bad audiobook narrator that I actually returned this to Audible. 🙈 6y
