I follow Jessamyn on IG. She is an amazing, body-positive, yoga-is-for-anyone, advocate. This book is not only a great introduction to yoga & how to get started, but also tells her amazing, inspiring journey. Definitely something for everyone here, even seasoned yoga practitioners.
And as one of my fave yoga instructors said, “it‘s called yoga practice not yoga perfect.”
All.the.feels. I‘ll definitely be using this in my home practice.

Great read! I love Jessamyn! Western yoga has a really great way of putting thin, white, cis-gendered, able bodied women at the forefront and it's actually really gotten out of hand. Voices like Jessamyn's are refreshing. Yoga is for every one and every body, and the way it is represented makes people forget that, or worse makes a large population of people feel specifically excluded.
Part yoga how-to, part memoir, part inspirational/self help.
Just signed up for my first #BFC round, which will include a weekly yoga goal. I'm excited/nervous to do this challenge, because I don't want to fail and disappoint myself. Hopefully I can see it through!
Jessamyn's book has led me to a yoga practice at home, despite my weight. It has benefitted my hips, especially.
Thanks to @mcipher I was able to do chair yoga today and added some stretches for people with arthritis. My daughter and I are going to make miso soup before I leave for work. Thanks to @wanderinglynn I‘m working on a path that was overwhelming. Thanks to all of the support from Littens I‘m smiling while I do hard things. 🥰 #BFC #bookfitnesschallenge
The practice is always there whenever you‘re ready to return.

[I needed this, especially that 2nd paragraph. I was a daily practitioner for ~1yr, then Little Dude arrived 8wks early & life went sideways. I really want to get back to my practice now that he‘s older. I‘ve been meaning to read this for so long & I‘m really struck by how much I‘m connecting to what Jessamyn (who I 💗 & have followed for years) has written here.]
My #naptimereads on this gray and rainy Monday.
Hope everyone who celebrates Mother‘s Day enjoyed the day! To everyone who has a tough time with this “holiday” for whatever reasons, I hope you had a beautiful and relaxing Sunday.

#BFC @wanderinglynn #DayOne I‘m not planning on counting points, my prizes will be better health and interacting with my Litsy friends who are participating. Great timing for this because I just finished a Whole30 yesterday and it will keep me disciplined as I reintroduce some foods. Goals: Track food daily,64 oz water/ day, walk outside on days off work, 3 yoga poses/day, & 4 print/2 audiobooks. We will finish on my birthday! Fitbit name: wife21
Went back to the mat tonight...felt great 👍🏼
Another incredible yoga read. Between this book and the last yoga book I read they have motivated my chubby butt to get back on the mat! I highly recommend this book for anyone who believes they don‘t have a “yoga” body!
Ahhh! Book mail is the best mail. And this is perfect timing after finishing The Body is Not an Apology this afternoon. Thank you, @riversong153 !
This is more than just a book about yoga poses. Jessamyn digs deep to break down the stereotypes about yoga commonly found in Western society. She addresses appropriation, body shaming, and coming to the mat no matter your body shape, color or size. It‘s a truly inspirational read.
Totoro likes it too. #RabbitsofLitsy

This is one of the best parts about developing a home yoga practice! After 1 1/2 years of studio classes, I have only recently started to feel more comfortable with doing more at home...and it is so freeing! I also find that I experiment a lot more than I ever did in a class when surrounded by more experienced practitioners...which is leading to more growth.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I have no shame in using a strap for certain poses, esp anything that involves seated folds.
🥰🥰🥰 I love this thought!

✨✨Self-care day! ✨✨
It‘s been an intense couple of weeks, and I‘m giving myself a hump day off! I plan on practicing some 🧘♀️ poses I would like to improve (looking at you Warrior III, Half 🌙 and Crow!), doing the 45 min Black History Peloton 🚴🏻♀️ class, reading ⬆️ book while listening to This Is Me, and catching up on Big Little Lies - figured I should finish Season 1 before 2 is released!
What are you doing on #humpday?
So happy I decided to bring along my next book when I went to a coffee shop today! For the first time in weeks, I am completely caught up on reading assignments and had time during the day to dive into the tagged book while drinking an incredibly delicious green matcha latte with oat milk! 🎉🎉
Happy Day!! #itsthelittlethings
And yes, I‘m wearing gloves indoors, because it‘s so cold today!
Finished off the Winter #booked2019 with a book related to a podcast. Looking forward to picking up the challenge again in April!! @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
Loving her view point so far, it‘s pretty much in line with mine!
I‘ve been doing yoga for a very long time but I found this gem to be wonderful. I think that Jessamyn‘s approach to yoga is laid back and her descriptions and photos of the poses are great! Even though yoga classes are with other humans (and animals) yoga itself is very personal and I like the way that Jessamyn reiterates to just do your own thing. Think about your own breath, your own poses, your own flow. 🧘🏽♀️💚 #yogalove
I did a Yoga Mala for the first time today. It is a moving meditation to take stock of your life and set new goals in conjunction with the changing season. It consists of 108 sun salutations...108 downward dogs, 108 planks, 108 forward folds, etc. I did it with a group of 12 women, followed by a 🔥 bowl ceremony to burn what we are letting go, and setting our intention for the New Year. It was so powerful! I also think I have earned this tea time!
Am about 40% through and am enjoying it so far. Jessamyn has a very informal and friendly writing style and informs the reader of her own trials and trainings in yoga.
Have reached the pose section of the book and love the detailed descriptions and tips on how to attempt each one for different yogic aspects.
Can't wait to try some of these out on my own 😊
Looking through the Amazon Prime free reads and came across this book. I've practiced yoga off and on on my own with YouTube videos and, as much as I enjoyed it, I just haven't been able to pick it back up this year.
I flipped through this book and already find it enjoyable and easy to follow, so I'm going to read it and see if I can pick up practicing yoga again for 2019!
Woah. Taking a breath and coming up for air from my laptop & work. 💻🐳 Another required read for my yoga teacher training; only a few pages in, but I am really diggin‘ the voice of the author and the unflinching realness of her intro. Cannot wait to finish my work (from home today) so I can crack this back open. 🖤

My tentative #tbr for September! Not pictured are a few middle-grade books I plan on reading together with Maya, and one or two library ebooks.
If I get through this stack, I will be almost finished with #popsugar2018!! Plus, #diversenonfiction for #booked2018
Includes books for these #pop18 prompts: #bookwithtwoauthors #recommendedbypopsugarparticipant and #basedonrealperson

Part memoir and part guide book on yoga, I loved how with each shared memory she provided a practice that matched her needs. I appreciated the explanation about the purpose of the poses as well as her background on why she began her practice. I‘m not a beginner to yoga but still learned a lot from this book.
This book caught my eye and drew me in from the beginning because I loved Jessamyn‘s attitude and outlook. I decided to read the whole thing instead of just paging through for yoga class ideas. However, this book lost me with all her feelings/life stories, details about mistakes that made her grow, struggles with body image/weight loss, and battle with self-esteem. I feel like it just wasn‘t for me and it was kind of a downer.
I picked up a few yoga books at the library to page through while looking for some new fun poses/ideas/images to use in my preschool yoga classes. When I started looking in this book I realized I loved the writing style and decided I absolutely HAD to read it all the way through! I LOVE her honest attitude and positive body image approach already! Can‘t wait to get even farther into this!! 🧘🏻♀️
Favorite line so far: “WHAT‘S A PIZZA‘S CALORIC COUNT IN THE FACE OF A PASSIONATE LESBIAN LOVE AFFAIR?”
...but also I love how she understands the dieting odyssey that every American fat girl goes through. The struggle is real!
Congrats @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego on your milestone! This book is still on my TBR, but I follow her on Instagram. I adore all the work she's doing toward body positivity and inclusiveness in both the yoga industry and in mainstream media. She inspires me almost daily. #GirlPowerGiveaway
This is one of the loveliest books I have ever read.
Yummy...
Simply by following Jessamyn on Instagram she inspired me to embrace my yoga practice without worrying so much about getting every pose perfect. Her book is more inspiring. I can‘t wait to get back to the studio, but also am looking forward to starting a home practice.
Spent part of my Barnes & Noble birthday gift card today, and both books were a #blameLitsy purchase!
A HUGE thank you to the person (I can‘t remember who) that posted about finding the Here I Am signed copy in the clearance section. I got it for $2!! 🎉🎉🎉 #bookhaul

I started this today with the sun salutations as I am trying to incorporate yoga into my routine. I love my hidrate spark water bottle as it lights up to remind me to stay hydrated.
#fiercefeb #imeverywoman My current read from this amazing and inspiring woman..... I‘m reading this for #booked18 #bodypositivememoirornovel ... I tore a disc in my back a few years ago and exercising became very challenging... I have been afraid to go back to yoga, but this wonderful book has inspired me to be kind to myself, embrace my limitations and start a home practice without judgement.... day 4 and feeling good!
Home stretch! #24in48 #punintended
Day off. Wearing a face mask. reading this in bed before I go to an actual yoga class. And then getting a free massage.
Guys, I have finally figured out how to live my best self. 😁
Pictured: why I fucking love Jessamyn Stanley‘s approach to yoga.
Jessmyn Stanley has written a guide to yoga practice, theory, technique and attitude, all in one. You may not actually be able to "do" yoga after reading this book (I think you need to watch video's or attend class to really get the moves), but you will certainly be in the right frame of mind and feel like you can accomplish anything if you try it. All of your potential questions will be answered.

First book of 2018 and it gets all the stars. ⭐️🧘🏻♀️⭐️🧘🏽♀️⭐️🧘🏾♂️⭐️🧘🏼♂️⭐️
As I really enjoy yoga, I selected this for the Body Positive prompt for #booked2018 . It was a good read! I don't know that it will improve my practice - I had trouble following the photos & descriptions (I need in person visual to get the gist.) But the message of self-acceptance will resonate with me on and off the mat. Jessamyn's experiences learning to accept herself & her body were heartbreaking and inspirational.
Note - a lot of profanity
