Excellent short story anthology about more than libraries. Ali Smith writes about literature, memory, and connection. My favorite stories were "Last" and "The art of elsewhere". (Pictured is my local library ♥️)

I am not a great library patron. Usually I just pick up my holds and then I leave right away. Tonight I returned my books and then wandered the stacks. It was such a relaxing way to wind down from a crazy week—ai need to do this more often!
An audiobook and crochet. The cat is wrapped in my work in project- he is not helping. #catsoflitsy
Not what I was expecting. I'm not a fan of short stories, generally; but, these were so short, and fairly funny, so, OK. Library-related tidbits between stories were interesting. I was expecting more of that.
I read the tagged book 3 years ago; I can‘t remember much about it, just that I didn‘t much rate it - clearly it didn‘t make an impression! Which is a shame, as I believe part of the aim was to highlight the rate at which public libraries have been closing in the UK.
I confess I, in my inactivity, contribute to those statistics, by not using my local library; I should make more use of it - it‘s barely half a mile from home!

LOVED this book! Must ready for Ali Smith fans. And Library fans
I'm not a massive fan of her style and this just isn't holding my interest.

I‘m here at the library for checking items out and for the Creative Writer‘s Workshop; great night!
It‘s been a crazy week and I missed a few days but I will try to keep up. #riotgrams day 14 is library books! I‘ve got this one on my wishlist with Libby. Hoping one day soon it will be free and I‘ll jump on it.
2 things that I love a lot are Ali Smith and libraries. So when I saw this book, I was super excited! It was a good book, but left me feeling flat because my expectations were so high. A so-so rating is probably unfair, but it‘s hard for me to evaluate this book outside of my own expectations.
I forgot to bring my self-restraint to the library today. #bookindulgence #libraryproblems
As others have said, a love letter to libraries. Ali Smith‘s writing I do not always find accessible. But there are gems in this book, enough to make it worthwhile.
Elsewhere there are no borders. Elsewhere nobody is a refugee or an asylum seeker whose worth can be decided about by a government....elsewhere poems cancel imprisonment. Elsewhere we do time differently.
Had an job interview and after stopped in at the Southfield Public Library. And in the children‘s section they had a reading tree!!! How cool?!

This is a "Jodi's Pick" from our own public library - one of my favourite librarians :)
It always baffles me when someone says they don't use the library - when my kids were little, it was one of our favourite places to go when we just needed to get out of the house.
#TBRtemptation post 3! The award-winning author provides a short story collection focuses on BOOKS!!! Why are they so powerful? What do our personal libraries convey to everyone else? What does the fragility of public libraries say about society? How do books travel with us? They shock, challenge, change us. Her main focus in all of this is the UK's public library system. I'm very interested in this! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
I do not know how so many of you are able to complete #24in48! I reached my limit around hour 8 on both days, at which point I lost all focus and brainpower. I think more audio would have helped, but even still, 24 is A LOT. What's your secret??
The stack is books I completed and I am about halfway through 5 Days 😅
I‘m not even sure how much time I will be able to devote to #24in48 this weekend but I started pulling a stack together today for fun anyways 😆 Do you think I have enough? I included some short #stories in case I can‘t stay focused.

I‘m not sure how many books I‘ve accumulated over the past year since joining Litsy but I bet it‘s #morethanyouknow 🤦🏻♀️ Pictured is my most impressive haul yet! On Cyber Monday, with the help of my $100 #bookoutlet gift card, I procured these stacks for just $38 📚📚📚 Just don‘t tell my husband! 🤫

Ali Smith is a new author for me and wow! It took me a bit to engage with her writing but once I did I was totally absorbed. These short stories are interspersed with beautiful passages about the meanings of libraries. The stories themselves are about books, authors, friendship, death, dreams and ideas - about how things shift and change. Many of them were surprisingly moving. #readharder #womanshortstories #bookriot
A love letter to words, PUBLIC LIBRARY was the perfect book to complete my reading challenge. In a series of fictional stories and interviews, Ali Smith unfolds the power of books and the places we read them. I personally have so many favorite memories in libraries. They‘ve been safe places for me and I still make time to go browse my local branch. - A
I just had to have more Ali Smith this month. This short story collection is Ali‘s love letter to libraries. 💌📚
And so do I. #LibraryLove #library #libraries #quotsynov17
The picture is a small part of our stacks which currently holds ~25 million items
The same window, taken from a different angle. And a 6yo who has found a series to love (Dragon Masters) and so is happily sitting there reading book 3 while I browse.
Look what I found yesterday! One of those free libraries! And yes, I took a book!
"Democracy or reading, democracy of space: our public library tradition, wherever we live in the wide world, was incredibly hard-won for us by the generations before us and ought to be protected, not just for ourselves but in the name of every generation after us."

#SizzlinSummerBooks #day6 #Library This is an amalgamation of some of the libraries in my council area. In Australia, libraries are run & funded by local councils with money coming directly from the government, great because we have lots of libraries, bad because we don't have those amazing book sales you guys in the US have to raise money for your libraries. The library in the bottom left is my childhood library, a place I spent a lot of time in.
Random library pick because of the title. I wanted to like it, but her writing is just not for me. The best parts were the blurbs in between the stories, with different people ruminating about what their local libraries had meant to them while growing up.
+💟The Theme. The cover. The bits about libraries between the stories. Some stories, particularly the one about DH Lawrence's ashes. -Not all the stories held my interest.
Library addiction is real. #freebies #riotgrams Day 13. #mylibraryisbetterthanyours
A coffee and book (Ali Smith 😍) break before I'm off to see Wonder Woman!
Because libraries have always been a part of any civilization they are not negotiable. They are part of our inheritance.
I've had this on my kindle for awhile now and have not read it. But I couldn't resist grabbing this copy from the library because of the cover! 💜
#jennasfinalproject Litsy hasn't exactly changed my reading habits. However, I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone in this grand universe. There are so many great book lovers and fabulous books out there! Thank you Litsy and fellow Littens for the incredible company as well as the recommendations. #contentreader

Having fun with this thanks to alert from @BarbaraTheBibliophage regarding @pocketmermaid & her final project. Littens,
If you want to join in & help her out, directions above! 📚
It's gonna be a double library day. 😁 At lunch went here and later Sterling Heights Public Library! @Wife too bad you work in Royal Oak, otherwise we could do lunch together. #SCSPL
#PublicLibraries #LibrariesofLitsy #PureGold. #LitsyLibrarians Stopped to return books today & of course I left with more, this collection of short stories among them. Can't wait to read! Photo is from dedication page. For all Littens, but especially Litten librarians
😊🍺📚
Short stories with a literary topic interspersed with intimate stories about the importance of public libraries. These libraries are based in the U.K. which have been threatened with closure or closed in a massive scale over the past 15 years. Ali Smith's stories and essays are intended to demonstrate what will be lost without them. Sometimes the only hope a person has is the public library. We see the many ways in these stories and essays.
