I couldn‘t remember which Wodehouse featured Bertie on a millionaire‘s yacht - turns out it‘s this one! Not one I particularly enjoy. Bertie and Jeeves part ways due to Bertie‘s banjolele playing. Bertie is also evicted for the same reason, so he heads to a cottage in the country where he may play in peace. Unfortunately, the country also holds a former fiancée, her steamroller father, Sir Roderick Glossup, and a crazy replacement valet. ⬇️

Bertie takes up the banjolele which necessitates a move to a country cottage and prompts Jeeves to tender his resignation. The usual tangled web ensues, this one involving Pauline Stoker and irascible father, Sir Roderick Glossop and a homicidal valet. Great fun.

Dragon I remember reading this as a kid and wanting to marry Bertie because he was so easygoing and so rich 🤣 and I wanted Jeeves to run the house. Loved these books 💚🐉 2y

This was an entertaining listen for my day at home. It took a bit for me to get into the story, but I laughed several times in the later part as Jeeves made sure everything fell into place. It‘s my first Wodehouse, but I‘ll definitely be interested in more of the series. However, the story has not aged particularly well with blackface being a major part of the comedy.

My first Jeeves book & this was really funny hahah; Bertie is hilarious and I love how Jeeves is so smooth and always managing to save the day😂 This was light and fun and I'll definitely be reading more in the series

(Obviously the racism wasn't at all great, however, so that was one down side)

#BFC2022 @wanderinglynn / Jan review and Feb goals!

- I've done Yoga half the days in Jan, including 2 classes! Feb goal: 75% of the days minimum😁
- I did 1/2 of the Blogilates calendar & went on a 2 hour walk. Feb goal: At least 1 Blogilates video a day to keep it more consistent & easier to fit in after work.
- I did most of the Action For Happiness calendar! Feb goal: Most of the cal again!
- I read 2 books!! Feb goal: Minimum 2, ideally 3!😊

One can never go wrong with P.G. Wodehouse! Once again I read this via audiobook and this was another dramatization. It was hilarious! The casting was great and the story flowed very well. As usual, the story is chaotic and simple, and only Jeeves can make it right. Fun for everyone. 3.5 out of 5.

LeahBergen @saresmoore What a coinkydink! I started reading it and THEN looked up what order to read the book on a Wodehouse page. Well, this is the first of the full-length novels but fans don‘t recommend it to Wodehouse newbies because of the, ahem, racist plot line and language (I‘m sure you‘ve already ran into that bit). I guess this is not at all recurring in the rest of the series, though (whew, because I‘m loving the characters). 7y

I was a bit surprised by the racist language, but seeing as Wodehouse clearly doesn‘t take his bourgie characters‘ finicky concerns too seriously, I think I can forgive the (albeit unfortunate) contextual slang. Aimeesue I've been rereading the Blandings books. Lately, I've been reading along with the audiobooks, a chapter a night - there's just something about hearing the dialog done with a British accent. ❤️Most of the audiobooks are available to borrow on Hoopla. 7y

There‘s mention of a few things happening before this book starts but nothing that has any effect on the plot. I watched Call the Midwife and the character, Chummy, speaks just like Bertie, so (bizarrely) I‘m also picturing a bit of her in the book character! I will definitely look for Cabin Pressure, Moray. The more laughter, the better! 7y

Bertie fires Jeeves so he can continue to play the banjolele, and typical antics ensue. But the plot involves Wooster in blackface and a troupe of minstrels that are referred to using a racial slur. shows the casual racism that existed and was so much part of the plot the rest of the book lost its charm for me. If you're new to Jeeves don't start with this one. I still love Jeeves and will be continuing my #yearofjeeves in honor of my dad.
