Why, Ted?!? πΆ ππ
Poirot is called in to investigate after a young girl is drowned after making a statement that she had seen a murder. Fun read but not one of Christieβs best books. Full review here: https://thecuriousmagpie2018.wordpress.com/2019/11/07/review-halloween-party-by-...
He came to a halt to read a tablet erected on a grave contemporary with several others near it... It bore a simple inscription,
βSacred to the Memory of Hugo Edmund Drake, beloved husband of Rowena Arabella Drake, who departed this life March the 20th 19ββ
He giveth his beloved sleep
It occurred to Poirot, fresh from the impact of the #dynamic Rowena Drake, that perhaps sleep might have come in welcome guise to the late Mr. Drake.

It started off pouring rain today, then went to sleet and winter temps within a couple of hours. Add high winds, & the results are less trick-or-treaters at my house this year. #scarathlon @Clwojick #teamslaughter #chillingphotochallenge #halloween
This mystery was ok, but it did not live up to my expectations for Agatha Christie and is my least favorite of her books so far. My main issue was that it seemed to really drag in the middle and did not hold my attention well. Also, like other readers, I expected a bit more Halloween atmosphere because of the title.

The set up was interesting and the ending was satisfying, although it did drag in the middle. Poirot is asked by a friend to investigate the murder of a girl at a Halloween party, and he of course uncovers more than some people in the village want. I wish there had been more Halloween in it, but it was only the day of the murder. It discussed several older Halloween traditions and superstitions.

Halloween book!
And that‘s Hallowe‘en Party finished. 21 points for #teamstoker , and my βabout halloween‘ and βpumpkin on the cover‘ squares for the scavenger hunt. #scarathlon
Managed to finish off another #audiobook at the end of work today. I like historical fiction and I enjoy a good murder mystery but I found the characters quite dry. The mystery was interesting but not as enjoyable as I thought it would have been

I totally forgot to post this last night! Its always been one of my favourite Dame Agatha stories, I also love the David Suchet adaptation that has Zoe Wanamaker as Mrs Oliver. At a Halloween party, a young girl boasts of witnessing a murder. Nobody believes her, until she‘s found drowned in the apple bobbing bucket. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter #ScaryScavengerHunt #AboutHalloween #WithAPumpkinOnTheCover 23points #PointsTotal-1,543
This one was a later Christie. Just ok in my opinion. Not very exciting even though it featured a murdered child, a first for Christie. It also didn‘t seem to have much to do with Halloween; only the murder took place during Halloween. There just wasn‘t the atmosphere I was looking for.
My #DeweyOct #readathon has finished, my total time is the bottom clock. Not as much as I‘d liked but over half of the 24hrs was reading and I managed almost 3 books(haven‘t quite finished the tagged book my daughter wouldn‘t leave!)Still have another hour for the #24B4Monday one so I‘m going back to my book! #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point + 5 #PointsTotal-1,518
Just a quick checkin this time, my youngest came over for dinner so I haven‘t been reading for a little while. I still managed a few more hours though, and as soon as she leaves I‘ll get back to it. How‘s your night/day? #DeweyOct #24B4Monday #readathon #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point + 20points #PointsTotal-1,512
Update for my #DeweyOct & #24B4Monday #readathon I‘m about halfway through, reading a bit slower than normal coz I‘m so tired! But I‘m determined to finish so I‘m chugging down caffeine &.getting up to walk around the house with my book to keep me awake. I‘m happy with my times so far, let‘s see how many more hours I can manage before tonight. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point + 10 #PointsTotal-1,491
Next up in my #DeweyOct & #24B4Monday #readathon is this classic Halloween story by the Queen of Crime, Dame Agatha. This will earn #TeamSlaughter a few points too. I‘m now wide awake and ready for the last stretch of the βthons. How are you doing? #Scarathlon 1point #PointsTotal-1,480
Nine hours down for #24b4Monday and another great Agatha Christie! I was at first disappointed in the slowness of the beginning, but the excellent writing and thrilling ending soon made up for that! Although when kids are involved, it‘s always sad, even when it‘s fictional.π
I‘m also logging what I can for #DeweysReadathon. So, only one hour. Sleep is just so nice!

ββIβI meant well. You must believe that. I meant well.‘
Such sad words, Poirot thought, some of the saddest words in the world.β
My second Agatha, and I‘m just not sold. Generally I don‘t read mysteries, though, just not my thing.
I figured out the killer pretty early, and the motive, although some of the fine points I hadn‘t guessed. The criticism as repetitive is valid, as many conversations are basically the same throughout.
I think my library needs a new copy. This one is water-damaged and some pages are coming loose.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. This is from 1969 and I swear I read something almost exactly the same in a book (nonfiction) published in the last decade.
In one word... Amazing! Couldn‘t be sure till the last page who was/were the culprit..although so many clues but I just couldn‘t guess. All the characters have been portrayed in such likeable fashion that it felt like either it was no one or it could be all of them in it together like a cult or something π. #I recommend it #go for it #don‘t go by the negative reviews # it‘s just as good as any of the Agatha‘s
I caught myself starting a new book and had to make myself stop. To be fair, I‘m reading More to the Story with my daughter, Stuart Little with my son, and I‘m just making my way leisurely through the Vonnegut short stories. Open Borders is on NetGalley, Canterville Ghost and The Vampyre are on Serial Reader, Hallowe‘en Party is on my Kindle and Private is an audiobook. Therefore, I should be forgiven for trying to pick up a physical book, right?
Binge reading Agatha Christie πͺ As she rightly quoted, β Detective novels are escape storiesβ and what a great way to escape a bad cold and sore throat.. Hercule Poirot says in this book, β it‘s not flu, it‘s just a bad cold.. people just say they have flu, to gain more sympathy as it sounds more serious πβ.. what an apt line for me..and what a coincidence that I happened to pick this book up while I have Cold and cough πͺ
Easily my greatest costume ever. My mom outdid herself considering I was going thru a Nick At Night phase and wanted to be Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. ππ€·π»ββοΈππ» #scarathlon #TeamStoker

One of the few books I own with a #pumpkin on the cover is one of my least favorite Christie books I've read so far. I've heard high praise about this title, so I'm a bit baffled by my lukewarm reaction. Could it be due to having read, & loved, Crooked House shortly before? A case of right book, wrong time? I'm tempted to reread it at some point & see if I feel differently.

Finished audio. Don‘t think this is Christie‘s best Poirot book, but it was still good. I knew a killer early on, but I never figured out how it all fit together until the end. It was a little repetitive at times as Poirot interviewed everyone. This is a book about Halloween-5pts
Fits the #scaryscavengerhunt prompts of being about Halloween and having a pumpkin on the cover. #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick

Downloaded this classic on my Kindle was on sale for $1.99.. Love Agatha Christie mysteries
Also sending out my #AllHallowsReadSwap package. @MaleficentBookDragon
@FantasyChick I think these are meant to be kinda secret, BUT I'm sending you 2 swaps in one box to save a lil on shipping. However you may of noticed that I wrapped them both very differently so you can tell what goes with what. I can't wait for opening day. π»ππΈ
Faded edition as it's one of my mums collection she left me but had to read halloween party for #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter especially as it's worth 5 points. It's not a favourite of mine but I do love a Poirot mystery. @Clwojick
Congrats on your 50k #LitsyMilestone π₯³ And thanks for such a generous giveaway π
In Australia, Hallowe‘en isn‘t really a big thing, and we rarely get trick or treaters. And this year we will be spending the evening at an end of year school celebration - so not spooky at all. But I do enjoy seeing all the spooky posts from lovely international littens π»

1. No, I don‘t generally dress up for Halloween.
2. One year, in a workplace where women couldn‘t wear pants except on Halloween, I wore biker boots, black jeans, an Aerosmith t-shirt, and leather jacket and said I was a biker librarian.
3. Fall leaf colors
4. Anyone who wants to do this.

Enjoyed this one a lot! Agatha Christie never disappoints! - 5 points plus 1 point for post to #teamslaughterπππ @Clwojick #scarathlon
Either I am getting better at guessing or this wasn‘t as tricky to figure out as some of her other works. I didn‘t figure out the full mystery, but did guess some of the major points. Doing so didn‘t stop me from enjoying the reveal. I got this from @MaleficentBookDragon a couple of months ago in a #sfmbc package and saved it for the appropriate season. It is also good for #Scarathlon #TeamStoker
