#OnThisDay in 1818, the world met a traveler from an antique land when Percy Bysshe Shelley's Ozymandias was first published. Exploring the hubris of man, the ephemeral nature of political power, and the inevitable fall of tyrants, it remains a pretty timely read, don't ya think? #HistoryGetsLIT

Verity This was the prompt for a terms worth of drama classes in my first year of secondary school. I can‘t remember what the end product was, but it means it is one of the few poems that I recite bits of from memory! 2y

#Broadside designed by artist #ChandraOLeary and printed by #JessicaSpring for the 2008 election, featuring the words of activist #ElizabethCadyStanton

It‘s the first design in their #DeadFeminist series, which inspired this book.

🎶 Got my lights burnin' bright
But I'm lookin' pretty sold
Sometimes I feel so cold (so cold) 🎶

Well the burning bright took me to this poem, & also the contrast between feeling cold in the song and the furnace in the poem.

This is one of my favorite poems, and I teach it in my English classes every year. #englishteacher #teachersoflitsy

If you've never listened to the Bryan Cranston narration of it, you really should: https://youtu.be/sPlSH6n37ts

CoffeeNBooks I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert...Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
5y
CoffeeNBooks 'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

TheBogwitch Thank you for that. One of my favorite poems recited by one of my favorite actors. 5y

#runningonthinicewithtigers I went with tiger here as my BA dissertation was on Blake. Here's my annotations from my A-Level text (I didn't use this poem in my dissertation in the end). #WinterWonderland @Cinfhen @TrishB
