I‘ve not been to a bookshop since mid March. Which is a LOOOOONG time. An indie local to me is open for one pre booked customer at a time. In normal circumstances to have a whole bookshop to yourself is a definition of bliss! But worried it‘s only a 15 minute slot though!

MicheleinPhilly I‘d book 4 consecutive slots! But I‘ve done private shopping twice now at my local book shop (30 minutes each) and it was LOVELY. 4y
squirrelbrain Oh lovely, enjoy! ❤️ 4y
DGRachel I‘d take a list! That‘s so wonderful, though, that you can finally do some bookstore browsing! 😘 4y

Oryx Bookermarket sweep! 4y
Mitch @MicheleinPhilly I was thinking of booking a second slot for hubby - so i could stay for 30 minutes.. ! 4y
Mitch @DGRachel Its a tiny shop and not one of my favs - but its a bookshop that will have books! So im happy! 4y
Mitch @Oryx I think im going to go in to the store in a state of panic!!! 4y
Oryx @Mitch I'm looking forward to seeing your panic buys - I like it as an approach - just go on instinct! 😀 4y
Mitch @Oryx 🤣🤣🤣👍🏼 4y
Nute I haven‘t heard of this type of shopping. I wonder if any indie bookstores in my neck of the woods is doing this. An entire bookstore to myself for any amount of uninterrupted time - JOY! Have fun! 4y
Laughterhp Only 15 minutes! Can you book 2 slots back to back to get a half hour? 😂 4y
Mitch @Laughterhp I wanted to - but felt too guilty booking 2 slots. 😢 4y
Laughterhp I guess that‘s fair. Good luck! 4y
Hooked_on_books 15 minutes?!? I guess my “hide when time is getting close to try to get 20” that I used in childhood won‘t work in this scenario. 😂 Sounds like a game plan is in order! Lists! Maps! High priority sections first! 😬 4y
wanderinglynn That‘s definitely going to require a plan. 15 min is better than nothing. Good luck & enjoy! 4y
Deblovestoread To be among rows of books sounds like bliss...enjoy your 15 mins. I think I would browse for 14 minutes and go grab a couple of my list in the last minute. Have fun! 4y
Mitch @Hooked_on_books ✔️🤣✔️ 4y
Mitch @wanderinglynn I know ... for a while I was debating whether it was! But this is a tiny shop and I couldn‘t pass up having a shop all to myself! 4y
Mitch @Kdgordon88 I think you‘re right. I might have one definite book that I know I want that I can easy grab in my last 30 seconds. And then use the other 14 .5 mins to inhale and absorb the shop! 4y

Bookshop.org seems interesting. I'll probably try and use it when I can, but I mostly buy used books. It is nice to have something that will complete with Amazon while trying to benefit the little guy. Hopefully this turns into something great.

Paperback.Propensity That's pretty great, hope it works out. 5y
Buechersuechtling I love that idea‼️ sad, but I mostly borrow my books but I would use it for all the books I give away as presents – if only I lived in the U.S. Thanks for sharing the story. (edited) 5y
Patchshank @Buechersuechtling hopefully it will grow and become international soon. Maybe it's just a matter of getting their name out there to small bookstores in other countries. I wish their website had a list of participating bookstores. 5y

We have been planning our year long journey in our RV. Of course, part of that is hitting some great book related attractions. So far we will be spending a week near Gulf Shores Alabama, another week in New Orleans and another week in Austin Texas. Taking any and all suggestions. These will be in January and February will be in New Mexico

Avanders Page One and Book Works are my 2 favorite independent bookstores in ABQ :). Sounds like an amazing trip! 5y
Crazeedi @Avanders def Page One! I loved that bookstore, and Page Two was where we got used books! 5y
Avanders @Crazeedi I used to love Page Too too (heh heh 😆), but sadly it closed. Happily, Page One now sells both used & new ☺️ (and it‘s relocated and redecorated ☺️☺️) 5y

On a recent visit to Hay-on-Wye this wonderful place was closed 😩. Its the only bookshop in the U.K. specialising in letterpress printed books in collaboration with small press and book binders. But it also does some amazing book related projects - working with non readers, visually impaired readers and global charities. I guess I need to plan a return trip to Hay at some point!

Crazeedi Sounds glorious, would love to visit 5y

Hey lovely Littens,

my mum booked a little trip to Firenze, Italy. 😍😘👍

So my question to you is, do you know any bookshops I should visit???

Maybe you know one @JazzFeathers ???

Tanisha_A There is a place called Firenze? Wow! Reminds me of Firenze, the centaur from HP! ☺️ 6y
Sarah83 @Tanisha_A it's called Firenze in Italy. In English it's called Florence. 😍 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence 6y
Tanisha_A @Sarah83 Ooh, I know Florence. Wasn't aware of that bit of Trivia, thankee! 💌 6y

Tanisha_A And, have a lovely trip! 6y
Sarah83 @Tanisha_A you're welcome 😍 6y
Dragon Florence is so beautiful! I didn‘t go to any bookstores, unfortunately, but I did go to the Uffizi Art Museum. Enjoy !!! 6y
BookNAround I don‘t know which bookstores I ended up in during our Tuscany trip but every one that I went into had a foreign language section. Since I only read English, I‘m not sure how extensive other languages were but even the bookmarks were different and cool to me. 6y
Sarah83 @BookNAround that's what I thought about 😍 I want to buy some Italian bookmarks 😍 6y
AlaMich How fun!! Have a great trip! 🇮🇹 6y
JazzFeathers Unfortunately, l'm not very familiar with Firenze. But l'll ask around 😀 6y
Sarah83 @JazzFeathers Thank you 😍 6y
JazzFeathers Right! My sister just reminded me! I've never been there, but one of our authors will hold a presentation of his book, Bibliotherapy, there. It's the Little Apothecary of Books. Books come with a prescription: they have a tag and on the tag is written for whome that book will be most beneficiary to. It's a very small place but it sounds awesome https://www.sololibri.net/Curarsi-con-i-libri.html 6y
Sarah83 @JazzFeathers sounds great. 😍 I have to look for it. 😁 6y

I haven't got much reading done this week, because I've had jigsaw fever! Slightly obsessed, it's so satisfying. Except when you realise the box is missing quite a few edges... And this was new out of the box 🤨 Missing edges are better than missing middle pieces though.

TheBookAddict @Erinreadsthebooks awesome! For years I had gone without even looking at a puzzle and then, about 3 years ago, I saw puzzles at dollar tree and decided to get one since it was only $1. This weekend was, at long last, the grand opening of the new bookstore near me, Bookery. I have lived in this area pretty much my whole life, and I've never had an indie bookstore this close to me. I have to admit, I cried a bit when I was leaving my way through the crowds gathered inside. Can't wait for this place to be my home away from home. ❤️

Li_21 I was there too!! 7y

Bookwitchery @Jen_Reads If I didn't have a child to feed I wouldn't leave with a paycheck. 😂 7y
Jen_Reads @Bookwitchery the employee appreciation week is what gets me the most. I can't pass it up. 7y
abbsinwonderland @Eryn2513 same..living in Nebraska doesn't give me very many options :/ 7y
abbsinwonderland @Jen_Reads you have more self control than I do. I'd be buying waaay more lol 7y
Bookwitchery @Jen_Reads Oh my God I know, right? 7y
Birdsong28 Waterstones, Amazon and a place in the UK called The Works which sells cheap books. 📖📚 7y

Thrift stores. Two of my locals sell paperbacks for $0.50 to $1 each, regardless of whether they're mass market or tpb. One also offers a volume discount (5 for $4).

I borrow far more books than I buy, though. If my library has it in their catalogue, there's a 90% chance I'll wait and get it from them--unless I need to up my haul so I get the volume discount, of course.

#bookishquestionoftheweek @BookishGirl06

Avanders Amazon ... I have lots of seconds though! Thriftbooks.com, bookoutlet.com (thanks to Litsy), local bookstores, b&n... 7y
mcipher If I'm buying books, I go to the Book Barn - huge used bookstore here in CT - or tag sales or whatever. But 99% of the time I get my books from the library. 7y
BookishGirl06 @mcipher I go with my family and friends to the book barn about once a year. We don't live close enough to go too often though (edited) 7y
mcipher @BookishGirl06 Oh cool!! I'm only like 20-30 minutes away but I don't go that often because library. It's definitely a fun place! 7y

I get most of mine from amazon since there aren't really any book stores in my area. #bookishquestionoftheweek

Beckys_Books Me, too. Some people aren't very understanding of tbis. But if you if you don't have anywhere to shop local and Amazon has two day free shipping what is a book lover to do? 7y
BookishGirl06 @Beckys_Books exactly. Why does it matter where you get it from ? Besides you can sometimes find used ones that are cheaper. 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Amazon and thriftbooks! The only local bookstore is 30 minutes away (Barnes and Noble) and it's too expensive!! 📚 Also Goodwill!! (edited) 7y

minkyb I try and spread the wealth 🤣Independent and used when I can, especially when traveling. Amazon, Book Depository, and Thrift books. My husband has used ABE books forever. 7y
Cortg Goodwill and used book stores. I usually use the library though 7y
LyndseyReads Indies when I can, but I also use Barnes and Noble and Amazon on occasion. Like @minkyb I love to seek out indies when I travel. 7y
Valeka Half Price Books and BookPeople here in Austin. I try to limit my book purchases with Amazon to just ebooks. 7y
Adventures_of_a_French_Reader Independent bookstore, I avoid Amazon like the plague. 7y
Karen Everywhere I can....... 7y
LeahBergen I love used bookshops. When ordering online, I prefer Abebooks or Book Outlet (and Book Depository). And like others have said, I love to check out indies when I travel. 👍🏻 7y
ElishaLovesBooks Anywhere books are sold! But mostly Amazon and Half-price books. 7y
FantasyChick I thrift shop as much as possible. But if I can't find something in good condition, it's Amazon or Chapter for me! Although I did recently discover Book Outlet so I will be adding that to the list!! 7y
Ash11hope I get most of them from book outlet, sometimes Barnes and Noble 7y
misslala I usually go to Vromans bookstore in Pasadena. Although, for used books I go to Illiad bookstore here in North Hollywood. 📚📚 7y

Smangela Salvation Army, goodwill, and library sales :) 7y
underthebelljar Most of my print books are from Goodwill and some from library used sales. I also get ebooks which I get through Amazon. When I buy new, which is rare, I buy from Barnes & Noble online. 7y
Sjsherwood I buy mostly from abebooks. Free shipping, inexpensive books. And I can find almost everything I'm looking for. 7y
Billypar The Strand, Housingworks, assorted other NYC bookshops, and Barnes & Noble. And when traveling, probably goes without saying, but I find the nearest bookstore. 7y

Working my way through this list!

The_Heeler_Booklife I envy how small your list is...I have over 60 books on my written TBR list and I keep adding more to it. 😬 7y
maximoffs @allthingskayla I wish it was this small!!! I'm using this list to help me focus 😂 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @steverogers lol looks like a good strategy and probably feels nice to cross out each name. 7y
See All 6 Comments
maximoffs @allthingskayla I ended up filling up the whole list last night, and my goal is to only read books from that list until I'm done. Maybe I can focus this way! 7y
The_Heeler_Booklife @steverogers that sounds like a good goal. Right now I'm on a no buy because I 30ish physical books I need to read and one preorder in September, then later this year is my birthday and then Christmas. The husband would not like if I buy anymore books. Then, I have a ton of audiobooks on my list. I was hoping to finish my list by this month before school next month, but I think it is impossible. I wish you luck with your list. 😊 7y
maximoffs @allthingskayla thanks! You too! 7y

Birdsong28 @goodbyefrancie If the chocolate says go to a bookstore you must do without delay. 😂😂😂📖📚 7y
Texreader I'm with @Crystalblu and @Birdsong28 ! Better get going the sooner the better! Now I have to go by some Dove!!! 7y
goodbyefrancie @Crystalblu @Birdsong28 @Texreader I may have to escape this weekend! Two of my favorite things...books and chocolate! 7y
riversong153 This is a dangerous think to combine with chocolate! 7y

I prefer one at a time normally. Maybe if the second one has only short stories in it. #bookishquestionoftheweek

bookloo I do. Currently reading five. 😬🙈 7y
Kaylamburson I prefer one at a time, but I can do two if one is print and one is audio. Otherwise I confuse storylines! 7y
Cortg I always have 1 print, 1 audio and 1 serial reader going on at a time 7y
See All 32 Comments
Scurvygirl I am reading five and an audiobook.😐 7y
samesfoley I never used to but since the beginning of this year I've been all about it! I usually do one print and one ebook--print for when I have more time and ebook for my commute and when I have a few min here and there 7y
PatriciaU I've usually got 2 or 3 going at once. 7y
Melissa_J I used to only read one book at a time, but I now usually have a couple on the go at once. I think my preference is for one at a time though. 7y
Dragon I usually have one or two main books, a few on the go books around the house, a book I'm reading at work etc.. so I'm not sure 🤔 exactly 😂 7y
Rachel.Rencher I have to read more than one or I get bored 7y
nicole_in_neverland I usually only read one at a time, I only read two books at once if it's a slow week at work 7y
Cspen113 I keep more than one going and read them depending on my mood. Right now I have 4. 7y
Varshitha I started reading multiple books after I started working, one paperback, one ebook that I can carry around, one huge book which I get to read only few pages every week.. 7y
Aninski With so much going on here on Litsy (readalongs, book clubs) I recently started reading multiple books at the same time, but I feel like I end up not really getting into any of them... Definitely prefer reading one at a time, so I can really dive into each book. 7y
lildeb_8 I usually have at least two - one audio and one print book. Right now I have four going because I have summer reading for work. 7y
mrozzz Yessssss. One audio, one fiction, one memoir/non-fiction usually. 7y
Mccartershanon I've normally got an audiobook and a paper book going at the same time 7y
Avanders I ... *prefer* one at time, mostly bc I want to feel the joy of a fresh slate and a completely open choice... but I usually end up reading about 3-5 at once 😜 7y
Bandrea I can do maybe two at a time without feeling overwhelmed. But I always have an audiobook and a paper book together. 7y
ninjypants I have 3 going right now and I like being able to pick up any one of them depending on my mood 7y
TheBookStacker I have 3 going right now 7y
Jadams89 I normally have more than one going at a time. I've always been that kind of reader. 7y
HippieChickHomeschool I like to have one audio, one print. 7y
Jhullie One book, one Audible book for walking or driving, and I have been doing the Harry Potter read-a-long. 7y
drokka Yes. Typically an audio book for when I'm doing things that require hands (cleaning, stitching, etc), one for commutes, one or two physical books at home. 7y
ReadingRover I listen to one on CD in the car, one on Audible while I'm walking dogs & doing non car stuff, one ebook on kindle and/or one print book. So usually about 3-4 are in rotation. 7y
bookdrunkard78 I usually have at least one audio and one physical/ebook going. Right now I'm working on three. 7y
TrishB Just one at a time for me 😀 7y
KaatjeH Reading one at a time😊 7y
Hestapleton Im currently reading maybe 8 books. A mix of physical books I own, library books, digital books, and audio books. 7y
minkyb Only 1 at a time. 7y
PirateJenny I'm reading 5 or 6 right now. I normally have at least 2--1 physical and 1 ebook. But I got caught up in 2 that I'm working on that aren't out till October so I downloaded the pdfs because I don't have time to read them at work. 7y
pocketmermaid I always prefer to be book monogamous, but it doesn't always work that way. I tend to read, all at once: a print book, an audio, an ebook, a graphic novel, and maybe a book of essays or short stories. 7y

Two bookstores in two days!! Both were amazing in different ways. I love old books and am super excited about the ones I found at Brattle today. And I'd never heard of Milan Kundera, but it sounded fantastic. I couldn't resist!!
