I‘ve had this on my shelf for a long time & I‘d really like to tackle it this year! Is anyone interested in a buddy read?

It‘s a trilogy of historical novels set in 14th-c Norway, originally published in 1920, 1921 & 1922. These would work well for anyone finishing the #192025 challenge this year. I‘m planning to use the first 2 books for 1920 &1921.

And pictured with the book is my reading buddy, Sylphrena. She‘s 5 months old and loves the tassel on my bookmark.

Another favorite! Ebook on sale

The Stowe Public Library in VT has a huge annual sale this time of year. I kept to only one small table because Lord knows I don‘t need more books. I‘m fairly certain I have the Undset trilogy packed in all those boxes of books I haven‘t unpacked yet but these were nice and clean so I grabbed them. I was so happy to find a Pym! I‘ve wanted to read her forever.

Not much reading this weekend as we are visiting our grandson. BUT….I will be working on the tagged book, The Queen - Andrew Morton, The Godmothers and The Murder at the Vicarage. And the new Simone St. James novella. I got a lot of challenges going on.

🪴 Read and loved the tagged trilogy in spring a few years ago.
🪴 Can‘t wait to see the tulip bulbs I planted bloom. We also have a large vegetable garden. Seedlings indoors at the moment.
🪴 I always look forward to my first gin and tonic of the season. Best enjoyed on the front porch or back garden while reading. Not quite there yet though. This has been one cold spring!

I loved Kristin. I fell in love with all the characters. This heroine was real. The desire, the pride that resulted in true remorse. I became lost in the story at times and forgot where I was. I enjoyed the struggle of the old beliefs with the new Christianity. I needed this book. I also thought of Gone with the Wind. Scarlett and Kristin were both dedicated mothers and there was unrequited love from Kristin's brother-in-law. #FoodandLit

From 1968 Jerusalem to Medieval Norway -1200 pages - I don't know if I will get it finished by June, but I don't mind carrying over to the next month. I'm really looking forward to it.

Welcome to Lillehammer! Home of Nobel Prize in Literature winner Sigrid Undset and the 1994 Winter Olympics. Bottom right is the Lillehammer bridge, which plays a prominent role with a moose in one episode of Netflix‘s Lilyhammer. We most enjoyed the open air museum in Lillehammer, the Maihaugen. We didn‘t go to Olympic Park but it‘s open to tourists. #foodandlit #Norway

Here‘s an eclectic mix of books about #Norway and by Norwegians for #foodandlit in May. The tagged book is a #chunkster that I read back in the 1990s. I‘m very fond of it and hope to reread it someday. (We will visit the author‘s hometown during our tour of Norway in May.) Giants in the Earth is about Norwegian immigrants to America and it is very very grim. The Monsters book is gruesome. I‘ll post more books as the month progresses.

Nevertheless, she persisted-- and completed a chunkster that's still on my own TBR!

Sorry friends I have been missing in action on Litsy this past month. I hope you are all well, reading wonderful books and coming out of lockdowns!
I have been reading my #chunkster by Sigurd Undset which I love ❤️ I have also been busy gardening and extending my veggie patch. We have had lots of rain this summer and my garden has loved it..we have been eating home grown vegetables every day 🌽 🥦🪴Mother Nature is amazing😊

#ChunksterChallenge2021 @Amiable #LateToTheParty I‘m joining the challenge late to tackle this 1124 page book that has been languishing in my stacks. It is set in the 14th century and I‘m all about the medieval lately. Slow and steady while I read other books too.

A Scandinavian theme happening here for my morning tea break. The wonderful Norwegian saga and a new Swedish embroidery by Linladen to keep me happy❣️

I am loving this story so far. It is actually a volume of 3 books and I have completed the first “The Wreath”. I am reading it for the #thechunksterchallenge2021 🤣

I loved it, and had the good fortune to visit Sigrid Undset‘s hometown Lillehammer, Norway, some years ago. When our month for #Norway gets here, in May, I‘ll post loads of photos including her statue in the center of town.

I am going to attempt this huge brick of a book that I first heard about here on Litsy.
I may need the inspiration of the #chunksterchallenge2021 to get me through it! Some of my all time favourite books are huge..happy reading everyone💕

Trilogy. Medieval Norway. Classic because it treats timeless themes over the course of one woman s life. One of my top 10 all time favorites. Have read 3x. So far, that is #medievalfiction #scandinaviafiction #norway #nobelprize #trilogy #classic

I‘ve had the honor of visiting Sigrid Undset‘s hometown of Lillehammer after I read the trilogy and took a photo of her statue that‘s on the main shopping thoroughfare through town.

I recommend the book if you have some spare months on your hands.

Have any of y‘all read Kristin Lavransdatter? It‘s one of my favorite books so I love to gush over it with anyone else who has read it 😂

@TheDaysGoBy tagged me in the #namechallenge game but I was traveling so couldn‘t get to my books. Then I got overwhelmed. But I definitely wanted to do it so, better late than ever. I restricted myself to books on my already read shelves and none starting with “the” just to make it tougher. 😉

This is an epic telling of Kristin‘s life starting at age seven. She lives a typical life, for the 1300s. But in other ways she‘s rebellious and unlike most Norwegian women of her time. The themes are quite modern, including women‘s sexuality and the significant downsides of her turbulent marriage. ⬇️

Way, way, way too boring.

I see this has a rating over 4 ⭐️. And I tried to hang in to see where it turns good. But I can‘t do it. It‘s a shame - my copy is beautiful, & has all three books in the trilogy. Still, I‘ve got to move on from this one.

Now I have to find two more picks for books published in 1920 & 1921 for the #192019challenge 😕 Any suggestions?

Alright, I‘m going in! I like to take on these doorstop books in tiny bites, so it will probably take me a few months to finish.

A college friend is cohosting a “Kristin by Christmas” online readalong I am going to participate in so I had to buy the deluxe edition over the drop caps ‘cause we‘re doing the whole trilogy.

Waterfalls, fjords and trolls. Norway is fascinating. #backpackingEurope @JenP @BookwormM

This is what happens when one stumbles upon a massive library book sale... #bookhaulofthecentury. Looking forward to reading these (and sharing with my mom)! Any favorites/recommendations in these stacks? I‘ve heard good things about Kristin Lavransdatter.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really enjoyed this slow, detailed read although sometimes it was a slog. I loved all the details about caring for her young children. A main theme in book is how Kristin wanted to follow God's path but also her own, and I was thinking last night how that is true of every person of faith... It's just quite sad that she didn't know more joy in life, but even the fact that her joy was mixed with sadness is just a fact of life.

It took me almost 3 months, but I'm finally done! It was definitely an interesting read... I didn't expect it to be so religious and I wonder what non-religious people make of it.
