1. Yes
2. Done
3. Can't really remember, but I think Louise Penny surprised me. Also Karin Slaughter.

I guess my theme for this weekend is #GinAusten, and tonight specifically, I've lined up martinis and McDermid. Not a bad Saturday night, all in all! #BooksAndBooze #CurrentlyReading #PemberLittens
Really enjoyed this modern version of Northanger Abbey. I thought the setting of the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh was a great update to stand in for Bath (and it happily reminded my of my own time spent in the city during festival season 🤩). The Thorpes were just as terrible and the two junior Tilneys as lovely as the originals.
#Pemberlittens
#PemberLittens! December has gotten away from me, but it‘s time to think about our January Northanger Abbey-related reading!
I plan to read from all of the above except the tagged McDermid book (I‘ve read it, was underwhelmed 😳). If interested in buddy reads, let me know!
I‘ll be listening to Nachtsturm Castle, and, for Audible members, check out the free superstar cast dramatization of NA.🥰
I‘m sure I‘ve missed some... what are YOU planning?
Quiet morning with some tea and Jane. I did not remember how great this novel is! Also I love this little edition. It is perfect to bring anywhere. #pemberlittens #austen #lazysunday
I‘m reading the Jane Austen box set. It‘s softcover. The text size is good. Anyone else? What is your favorite edition?

#sundayfunday @ozma.of.oz
Just finished - but it took awhile. I did not like this retelling. But I‘m sure there are people who might. I found it annoying. Like the author tried to hard to keep the story and did not really understand the characters in the time she chose. I loved this round of #lmpbc overall!
@mabell the large tree is a Cigar tree and I‘ve been told the largest in our county. The smaller one under it and to the right is a crepe Myrtle. The tiny one to the left is a redbud.
Taking a few minutes to enjoy my lavender and echinacea framing my statue. My husband bought it for me when my kids were babies because of the child reading. In the right corner is the beginning of a patch of thyme. I plant it everywhere so I can tell myself I always have enough “thyme”.
@sprainedbrain I came outside to clear my head from a 9 hour work day and it‘s gotten too dark to read- but I will try hard to finish the book and mail it by this weekend. (I‘m struggling with it holding my interest- the characters kind of annoy me).
This is basically the original story written in modern times and geared towards a younger audience. While I have read the original, I didn't really remember it. While reading, I started to remember the original, so it did that really well. However, the slang bothered me (maybe that means I'm old now?) and I found myself rolling my eyes often. I didn't love nor hate it. #lmpbc
@tdrosebud it arrived! And I love celestial seasonings! It was a favorite place to visit when I lived in Denver. @sprainedbrain I mailed yours Monday with two day delivery, but it says on tracking by tonight at 8pm. Fingers crossed. @SamHeartCoffee your #cbbc package says arriving today too.
I can imagine that it‘s hard to transport the plot of one of Austen‘s fantastic novels to modern times... but surely it could be done better than this? A few tweaks here and there and removals of some ridiculous plot lines, and this might not have taken me nearly 2 weeks to read.
I can‘t pan it, as it was fun to compare to the original and it has Henry Tilney in it. 😍😂
⭐️⭐️1/2
It pains me to say this about a book I‘m sending on for #LMPBC.😬
🤦♀️Modernizations are hard to do. This one has few good points but for the most part it's codswallop. Litsy doesn't give me enough space to list the reasons. If you want to read whole review go to my Goodreads. https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/22237394-annie

#BRCr2 week 2 check in!
✅met my 8k step goal 6 out of 7 days
✅added extra veggies to my lunch every day
✅took a long long walk at the zoo today
✅finished my 4th audiobook (goal is 6)
Goals for this week are to recommit to vitamins and healthy sleeping habits. Also after I finish my 5th audiobook I want to move on to a chunkster for my 6th.
I‘m excited because I think I‘ll be okay to walk all day in NYC on Friday!
Not a great story on its own, but really fun to compare to the original.
@Cinfhen When there's a question about your home county on #thechase and your favourite Chaser reveals she has a cousin who lives in Tolpuddle (in the same county), which is near the river Piddle (or Puddle) and features in tagged book!
Book 2 of 5 lowest rated on goodreads tbr, and coincidentally (?😬) another one from The Austen Project. Here we go..,
I believe writing a #retelling is much difficulter than writing one's own book. Which elements of the classic novel should be left out, which ones should stick in?
And everytime the idea, "what will the reader think about my adaption?" #litsyclassics @Bambolina_81

#ValsNorthangerAbbey #buddyread #DecDays #ItsChristmasDay I haven't read as much as I was planning on Christmas Day-I napped, watched movies & have been chatting with family & friends, but I did manage to finish my final two chapters in this book. I enjoyed the modernization of the classic & overall it was cleverly done. Eligible is still my favorite of the 4 Austen Project books but this one comes in second & I am glad I finally got it read.📚👍
Festively matching my lunch and my book to the season. 🎅🏼🎄👍Grabbed a slice of spinach-tomato-garlic pizza & a SBUX Strawberry-Green Tea Infusion (no water or sweetener) on the way home from an appointment & a library stop. Six chapters to go for the #valsnorthangerabbey #buddyread Can you tell I'm warmer today? Sunny & breezy & currently about 75 degrees F. I'll still probably change into sweats & socks --just without the blanket. 😆
#valsnorthangerabbey #buddyread I FINALLY caught up to where I should be this week. I would read this week's chapters 26-30 tonight as I am enjoying the story, but I am afraid I am about to fall asleep. 😴 🐱Max says that he was happy to learn that Cat's family has cats at their vicarage in Chapter 20, but he wanted to know more. He says he still strongly feels that this book doesn't have enough real cats in it.😻🐱🐱🐱#catsoflitsy 😼❤️
Okay, I finished my #buddyread early. No spoilers but I couldn't put the book down for the last seventy pages or so. 💙💙💙

#DecDays #Candles I haven't come across any candles in this modern adaptation of Northanger Abbey-but Jane Austen's version certainly had them & here are some in the holiday lighting on my coffee table. I'm trying to catch up on some of my buddy reads like #valsnorthangerabbey but I keep falling asleep. It's me not the books.😴Today & tonight have been very windy with powerful gusts & I keep thinking I'll lose power & candles will come in handy.😆
Day 9 #SeasonsReadings2017 #BookChristmasTree I love looking at others' book Christmas trees & regular Christmas trees but I'm far too lazy to create my own. I attribute it to working retail many moons ago at a department store & being forced to manage the Christmas department-including decorating ALL the display trees. I have never recovered...🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄😱😜So I give you a current book with my Christmas tree socks. #valsnorthangerabbey #buddyread
I'm doing a pretty bad job of catching up on my 'The Children of Hurin' chapters for #LOTRchapteraday but at least I caught up for #ValsNorthangerAbbey #buddyread & finished chapters 11-15 this weekend & this morning. On to 16-20 this week. 🐱Max says that he mostly slept through these chapters-except when the River Piddle was mentioned. He thinks that's funny.😹Most of the time Max has the sense of humor of a ten-year-old boy. 🤣#catsoflitsy😽❤️
I can vouch for this! It's not just the beaches, towns get busy too - it's a nightmare for shopping! #ValsNorthangerAbbey @Annl
Caught up on this week's reading (Chaps 6-10) for #ValsNorthangerAbbey #buddyread this afternoon. Well, some of us read, others (🐱) chose to snooze in the sunshine under the skylight when it finally made an appearance between the clouds & rain showers. Good reading weather.📚 🐱Max says that it might be good reading weather but it's purrrfect napping weather. 🐱💤He is definitely an expert at napping, so I can't argue with him.😆 #catsoflitsy😽❤️
About to catch up with #ValsNorthangerAbbey but thought I would share my #bookmark with you! @Annl it was the obvious choice for the #buddyread! ☺️😉🤣
A modern reimagining of a classic story. A young girl with a heart full of romance and a desire for intrigue gets an opportunity to leave her humble home and attend a festival in a big city. She meets a dashing young man, and new friends. Gets invited to their family estate. Where she sees monsters in every dark corner. The lesson is that there are monsters closer to home. Well written and engaging. A little predictable. But enjoyable, overall.
#ValsNorthangerAbbey #buddyread Taking an afternoon tea break for a quick dip into Chapter 6. My regular grocery store cashier insisted I try these Fudge-Covered Ritz Crackers saying they're a perfect combination of sweet, salty & buttery. I wouldn't say perfect-I could use more salt, but they are pretty darn good.😋 🐱Max says that his mom's idea of good snacks & good books is questionable-everyone knows ahi is the best snack!😽🐟#catsoflitsy😽❤️
#ValsNorthangerAbbey Discussion questions posted. @Annl
My answers: I have read the original, but about 5 years ago now. I really enjoyed it - it led to me doing my dissertation on Ann Radcliffe's Gothic novels!
#ValsNorthangerAbbey #BuddyRead Finished Chapters 1-5 for this week. Catherine "Cat" is just as silly in this era as she was in Jane's but it's light & entertaining unlike The Silmarillion.? ?Max says he thinks this book could be improved if it actually was a picture book with the story acted out by cats-but he says that actual cats are far less puerile than the characters in this book. (Max has been at the thesaurus again...)?#catsoflitsy ?❤️
When you catch up with your #buddyread and come across #seventeen for @JoeStalksBeck and @Tiffy_Reads ! @Annl #ValsNorthangerAbbey #NovemberbytheNumbers
#valsnorthangerabbey #buddyread ?Max says, "That face you make when your mom is STILL trying to convince you this book she's making you read with her has a?in it & you know it's just a silly human named Cat."? Chap 3 out of the 5 we're reading this week. So far I'm liking how McDermid is updating the story.?Also-Max's views & opinions on the gullibility & intelligence of dogs are his own & do not necessarily reflect his mom's?#catsoflitsy?❤️
This is my pile for tonight.
One chapter fron the Silmarillion for the #LotRChapterADay readalong. Finish chapter 2 of Northanger Abbey for the #ValsNorthangerAbbey #BuddyRead And if it's not too late in the night by the time l'm done, a few chapter of a Miss Fisher mystery.
Really, l've never done anything like this before joining Litsy 😆
It really didn't take me much to cave in and join the #ValsNorthangerAbbey #BuddyRead l've meant to read this book since it first arrived at the bookshop. It'd be a shame not to join.
And my dragons book has arrived 😍
#ValsNorthangerAbbey #buddyread Kicked off this buddy read with the first 2 chapters-we're reading 5 chapters a week. This updated take is set in Edinburgh & Catherine Moreland is called 'Cat.' I'm curious to see how it plays out.🤔 🐱Max says that he has been betrayed!😾His mom told him that this book has a cat in it. She tricked him-it's not a cat-it's a silly human called 'Cat!'🙀If you can't trust your mom, who can you trust?! #catsoflitsy🐱❤️
#ValsNorthangerAbbey I live in Dorset - there's no such place as Piddle Wallop, but we do have a River Piddle & place names associated with it!
If you want a laugh, take a look at this: http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/11058774.21_of_the_funniest_place_names_in...
Edit: Also, I thought it unrealistic that you could get from Dorset to Edinburgh in a day, but it will take 8hrs 10mins according to Google Maps!
