It's almost time for Jane Austen Book Club! I struggled with this month's read - Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding. I'll spill the tea on why in tomorrow's Discussion Post. 🫖📖📚

Maybe some books are better left remembered and not re-read. 😐

@TheSpineView (thanks for the tag!): you, too, @Eggs! 😘
1. Yes! My teacher compadre and I gave a writing prompt (read ⬇️) on testing day for THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING to our honors freshmen. Once we read the prompt out loud, there was dead silence. Then we said two words: “April Fool's.“ The test occurred on 4/1. One girl gasped out loud: “I almost wet my pants!“ 😃 #funwithfreshmen
2. I think BJ fits the answer.
My two book order from Thrift Books. I am a bit disappointed in how dirty they are.
Here is my stack so far for #MonthlyMagazineBlitz this will be the whole year already organized. I honestly thought I had more. @julieclair
Modern Mrs. Darcy (re)shared a list of 30 Jane-inspired retellings! Perfect for #PemberLittens future reads.

My current read. Thanks to Misty and Leigh and the #litsylove crew! Just what I need to help me get over the last part of COVID. I‘m feeling better, but still testing positive. Thanks for the nice surprise in the mail. 💕💕 #thoughtfulfriends #bookmail #booksurprise @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

The first book that came to mind. Poor Bridget.
Perhaps after 22 years this falls into the genre of historical chick-lit and one can be reminded how much more clearly they could see their life when not completely obsessed with their weight and calorie intake. Geesh! …I liked the movie better even though it‘s been a while since I last watched it.
I had high hopes for this book because I love all the movies and find them sweet and hysterical, but I was disappointed with the novel. It's super short yet took me a couple months to get through. Since it was written in the 90s there are definitely some themes that didn't age well, like an unhealthy obsession with body image. And Bridget Jones is a character that doesn't have dimension without a man by her side which was so disappointing to me.

I love Bridget Jones, and when I was younger and read the first two books I could relate. Both Bridget and I were young and a mess. When I picked up the third book, it felt like getting back together with an old friend. We both had grown up and been through so much, but Bridget was still a mess!! Her antics were maddening! Get your sh!t together! Its not cute anymore!
I‘m not much of a romance reader ... But I do love a good romantic movie ... just watched this old favorite.. Bridget Jones & Mark Darcy .. I must try the book ❤️ Soooo good X
“Now darling”, she suddenly hissed, “you will be coming to Geoffrey and Una‘s New Year‘s Day Turkey Curry Buffet this year, won‘t you?” 😂
When I first read this book back in 1997, I laughed and laughed. I would have loved to hang out with Bridget and friends in #London. 🇬🇧

Had I read this book when I was in my early 30s, I possibly would have liked it, related to it a little.
Reading it as a world-weary 50-something, though, it‘s appeal is significantly lessened. Sorry, but I just want to slap Bridget and her friends, and tell them to grow the heck up.
For the past few years I‘ve started the year with a re-read of a book because it is nice to begin with a guarantee of enjoyment. This year, I‘m revisiting Bridget Jones, which works for a 2021 PopSugar Challenge prompt. Happy New Year Litsy friends!
Can't believe it's been 25 years!! Still really good even though I didn't read it when it came out as I was only 6 but I think it is superb.
It‘s a holiday tradition for me to watch this movie (movie starts and ends on New Year‘s Day) #wintergames2020 #readnosedreindeer
Points: 5 + 20 + 1 = 26 + 43 = 69
Yes I watched this back in October with #pemberlittens
I could not get into this book. I didn't care for the writing style first off. Like, I know it's supposed to be a diary but the lack of pronouns bugged me.
And the fact that Bridget was so obsessed with her weight, when she was NOT EVEN 130 LBS!!!! 🤦🏼♀️
None of the characters seemed likeable, and who knows, maybe it gets better. But by 'March', I was done.
Might watch the movie just to see how it ends. (And also for Colin Firth/Hugh Grant)
Wanting to relax and have fun, I finally read Bridget Jones's Diary. Since I am a long-time fan of the movie, I certainly liked everything! Although the events in the movie and the book are slightly different, I really enjoyed reading the book!
?"Don't say 'what,' say 'pardon,' darling, and do as your mother tells you."?
4⭐️ I quite liked the book; a nice fun read. There were some differences in the book that weren‘t in the movie, but for the most part, the movie adaptation came pretty close to the book. It was a fairly easy read, in that I was able to finish the book within a few hours. #2020 #movietiein #bookreview #bookstagram #epistolary #fiction #contemporary #bridgetjonesdiary #pemberlittens

I re-read this last weekend as part of #PemberLittens
I still love this book as much as I did the first time I read it! Thanks @sprainedbrain for the audiobook recommendation!

This is my first reread of this since I read it almost 20 yrs ago, and I had forgotten how fun this is. I was laughing out loud several times, and that hardly happens. I‘m so glad I reread this.

Tomorrow at 7 pm Central is our first watch party for Bridget Jones! I really liked this book and I‘m looking forward to a funny movie.
Zoom invites have been sent to those already signed up, but there‘s still time to get on the list! 😘

Bridget doesn't necessarily remind me of myself, but there are many things about her that resonate with me.
(1) I like badminton but never played it professionally. I'm really into watching soccer, especially Champions League games, but I don't have a favourite team
(2) I'm grateful for the lovely mentoring team I've become part of at my school
Would you like to play @KVanRead @CaliforniaCay ?
The first thing that comes into my head when someone mentions a #Sweater is Mark Darcy‘s collection of Christmas sweaters😂😂

📚 Reread Bridget Jones‘s Diary so I‘m ready for the watch party on the 18th
📚 Start my #BookSpin book, The Color of Law. I hope to read a chapter a day
📚 Get a start on Shuggie Bain
🎧 Finish Stamped. I have less than 20 min left
🎧 Continue Eleanor Oliphant
I had planned to pace myself for a buddy read of Bridget and finish just before our watch parties in a couple of week... Epic fail. I started and couldn‘t stop.
I loved this 90s-era retelling of Pride & Prejudice, especially picking out characters and plot points from the original. I laughed out loud many, many times. Bridget is a remarkably goofy character, though, and I had a hard time seeing much Lizzy-ish about her.

Anyone up for a #BuddyRead and/or a watch party for Bridget Jones?
Here‘s my tentative plan, but I‘m open to suggestions:
The book has 12 chapters: for those who want to buddy read, read at your own pace from October 1-15.
I would be willing to host 1 or 2 watch parties the weekend of 10/16—10/18. Based on sign-ups so far, I‘m thinking Friday 10/16 around 7 pm my time (US Central) and Sunday 10/18 at 11 am my time.
Thoughts? 😊

More ideas for movies and/or watch parties.
I‘m planning to read P&P & Zombies in October and have been dying to watch the movie for years just for that casting.😍 I‘m happy to host a watch party and/or buddy read.
Same with Bridget... I may be the only person I know who hasn‘t seen the movie, but I have to read the book first. 😂
I read Death Comes to Pemberley years ago, but I‘ve heard the film is better. I plan to find out!
Just what the doctor ordered. Bring on the rest of the series and a movie marathon.
#3Books I haven‘t read but should...
There‘s a list out there of BBC‘s top 100 books everyone should read that I‘ve been chipping away at for years. I‘ve now read 85 of them, and these 3 are all among the 15 I haven‘t.
I‘m going to read Bridget Jones next month for #Pemberlittens, though!
#3books that made me laugh --
All I want to say is Blue Soup! 😂

Still finding it very difficult to read these days. I only finished 5 books in May and 4 of those were audiobooks
