How??! It‘s been 81 days since my world was shattered. It‘s been 81 days of pain, despair, heartache, fear, loss but also pockets of love, light and friendship. To everyone who has reached out to me, please know I‘ve seen your messages of support & prayers and I can‘t thank you enough. In these darkest days your rays of hope fill my heart. I honestly haven‘t read much since Oct7 but I still wanted to share my #Top23of23 👇🏼

Cinfhen @RebelReader Hezbollah is a real threat and im actually terrified. Their weapons have the power to inflict serious damage. I honestly don‘t see how Israel can protect its citizens from a two front battle 😭and then there‘s Syria another friendly neighbor 😩 war sucks! If you have not publicly condemned Hamas and those who are rallying in the streets celebrating, cheering & chanting “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” then you are supporting a group whose ONLY desire is the destruction of Israel & the annihilation of the Jewish People. This is NOT about resistance at any cost. The citizens of Gaza are being oppressed by their own “government”. Now is not the time to remain silent 👇🏼

Try to imagine what it would take to put a bullet in a pregnant woman‘s head, slice open her stomach, remove the fetus and leave a knife in its womb. And now imagine what they are doing to our innocent children, babies, women currently in Gaza?!! Are you as sick as I am?! 6mo

Cinfhen Trust me, if you entered Gaza waving a flag for LGBTQ+ or dared walked in the streets openly holding hands with your same sex partner - you‘d be castrated & executed. If you entered Gaza to speak out for Woman‘s Equality, your tongue would be slit. If, as a woman you dared show your hair or face uncovered you‘d be publicly flogged and your family would be shamed. CoffeeAndABook Oh Cindy, yes. It seems I‘m getting into more and more discussions about this. How many times can you repeat that it‘s not about a war on Palestinian civilians but on HAMAS, who couldn‘t care less about the people they‘re supposed to represent. Who use them as pawns and human shields. To imagine what the hostages are going through is not possible for me. It makes me physically I‘ll to try. My heart is breaking over and over 💔 6mo

I don‘t want to be part of a community that can‘t speak up and show solidarity with the innocent Israeli people. Cinfhen Hi friends, I wanted to jump on here and share something that occurred a little while ago. These are stories that aren‘t being shared but are probably occurring throughout the country and it‘s uplifting!
For the first time in 11 days, I drove to the main market where I usually shop. 95% of the workers are Israeli Arabs who live in the nearby surrounding villages.👇🏼 6mo

Cinfhen As I was pushing my cart I saw an Arab employee named Yara, who is always smiling & exchanging pleasantries with me. Today in Hebrew she asked how I was. I shrugged & replied in my broken Hebrew “not great.” Again in Hebrew she said, “ You are strong but together we are stronger. Arabs & Jews as one we are victorious” and then I burst into tears and she patted my back and handed me a tissue. All in the cleaning product aisle 👇🏼 6mo

Cinfhen with other customers looking on. This is another side of the Israel. Many many Arabs live peacefully with their Jewish neighbors. We are both Israeli citizens. We are both in this together. Rockets are launched in their direction too. This is the Israel that Hamas hates.

Since the news from Israel began pouring in last Saturday, October 7 - the only book I‘ve opened is the Tehillim, Book of Psalms. Sometimes words written more than 2500 years ago hold the most power. In these dark days, when hope is almost lost, I‘m finding tremendous comfort and solace through these ancient songs and laments. We had an issue last year with a teacher who was not willing to tell the Holocaust story because she didn‘t find it necessary and said it‘s not like that could happen. 😵‍💫 trying to explain to others that this is a reality and it will and can and does happen is like screaming into the abyss. Keeping You Up to Date | Stephen Harris

Today felt like a day of action as opposed to reaction. All week my kids both here and from the states have been raising $ to purchase MUCH needed supplies for their friends who are about to go into battle. At great danger to themselves my son and another boy drove to deliver the items. They literally encountered 150:missiles overhead. Honestly, once again GD was watching over us. Stay safe everyone.

Cinfhen Again & again…Thank you all! On Wednesday, I drove with my son about an hour each way to attend a funeral for his friend, a boy of 21, who was murdered on Saturday protecting Kibbutz Be‘eri. We had a lot of time to talk quietly in the car. And I asked Zach to forgive me, for uprooting him from the comforts of our home in America and to now alter his life forever in such a traumatic way. I love you both for giving me this gift.” He also said he‘s super worried for his friends, for what they have witnessed and experienced first hand. In the German Bundestag yesterday every politician, even the right wing AFD, condemned the attack for what it is and demanded to freeze any payments to Palestinians which unfortunately go not as they say to schools and hospitals but weapons. Someone left flowers at our local synagogue and the solidarity with Israel event yesterday was packed. 6mo

Cinfhen I‘m truly touched by this outpouring of concern 💜 it‘s really difficult to describe what it feels like to be so near to the violence but far enough away to have a (false) sense of security. We can hear fighter jets, we can feel vibrations from the incoming missiles either being intercepted by the Iron Dome or unfortunately the boom when it lands. Supermarkets are empty, we are being told to prepare bottled water and canned food. 👇🏼 6mo

Cinfhen My parents grew up in America, so they don‘t know what it‘s like to live through a war being fought on home-ground. My youngest son, is nearly 22 - he shouldn‘t have to be attending funerals of his friends, worrying about what his world will look in 3 months/ 6 months. Since Saturday his already lost 7 friends, one friend is missing ( either assumed dead or taken hostage) and several friends are wounded, including one who lost an arm. 👇🏼 6mo

Cinfhen @quietlycuriouskate I‘ve mentioned in other posts but you might have missed - luckily I‘ve been blessed as my son was medically discharged last July 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼At the time he was so distraught about having to leave his unit and end his service time. Now in hindsight it was a blessing in disguise 😇 but the bond of brotherhood amongst these boys is timeless and therefore he‘s remained on their group chats. So on Saturday, some boys 6mo

Cinfhen from his unit were actually on guard duty for Kibbutz Be‘eri. Unfortunately they were completely ambushed and my son was literally learning in real time what was occurring. He kept reading us frantic messages he was seeing but we didn‘t really grasp that this was occurring in dozens of towns around the border. It was very traumatizing 💔 6mo

Cinfhen @LeahBergen xxxx today was a long day - another funeral for a 21 year old boy. He was in my son‘s unit. They were on guard duty for one of the kibbutzim. Two boys killed, one still missing and several wounded. By the grace of GD my son was medically discharged, July 2022 and has been spared from physically being present for all of this horror. 6mo

Cinfhen My son‘s best friend was there and witnessed the carnage. He is 22 years old. He will NEVER be the same again. My son served in the unit that was guarding this kibbutz on Saturday and were the first casualties of the day. They were completely caught off guard and many from his unit were critically wounded- 2 died. Cinfhen Survivors guilt. In Israel, army service is compulsory. He could have easily been one of the wounded or killed. He also could have experienced a traumatic event that he would never recover from. The funeral I attended today was for a young man, only 26. He was part of the dog search & rescue team. It‘s surreal. As a war is being waged just 30 miles south of here, my Amazon order was just delivered. Yes, it was placed last Monday but still…life goes on here despite the abject horror that just occurred 48 hours ago. It already feels like a lifetime. I know the coming days are going to be brutal. Cinfhen Thank God my family and our area is safe (for now) but we are devastated by what is occurring in the southern cities. It‘s worse than what is being reported. And unfortunately because military service is mandatory for all citizens from the ages of 18-35 everyone we know has a child right now being called in. I‘m beyond gutted. My son was discharged last summer for medical reasons but his unit is really in the thick of things right now and my 👇🏽 7mo

Cinfhen heart is breaking for all the parents who are probably sick with worry. I appreciate your thoughts and ask that you continue to keep the people of Israel in your prayers @sarahbarnes @Graywacke @Suet624 @CBee @Bklover @CoffeeAndABook 7mo

WHOA! I was not prepared for the BRUTALITY of this book nor the extremely graphic sexual abuse depicted. Just heartbreaking. Absolutely gutted by this book. I can‘t say I “enjoyed” reading this one, but it‘s definitely a powerful piece of writing. Does this belong in a classroom? I‘m not sure it‘s right for every student but it certainly is the RIGHT place to explore the themes of poverty, inequality, cruelty and damaging beliefs.

I‘m always amazed how people can endure and ultimately thrive after suffering & experiencing such horror. As I sat in my living room with tears running down my face,my son wanted to know “why I torture myself” and I responded “until my last breath I will bear witness and share these stories so that the next generation #NeverForgets

I was /am very hesitant to read the Betrayal about Anne Frank because apparently the author can not authenticate her claim and she names a Jewish person as the culprit which many say is a way of demonizing the Jews and turning the victims into the perpetrators. I‘m conflicted but curious to read nonetheless 7mo

Cinfhen I just downloaded A Small Light on Prime Video @CBee - watched the first episode. I always assumed Miep was an older woman, I never realized how young she was. WOW her bravery! 7mo

Cinfhen It was only like 6 hours on audio, maybe less @Librarybelle @LeahBergen but it‘s beyond impactful. Highly recommend audio - narration was excellent. 7mo

Last Night at the Lobster | Stewart O'Nan

O‘Nan is quickly becoming a favorite author - I love how authentic his characters are and his attention to detail is not overly written but so precise in the setting, mood and time.This is a short novella about a small crew of characters working the final shift ,just days before Xmas, in a mall located Red Lobster Diner. It‘s so pitch perfect in its simplicity, I just wish it would have been a longer story.

I admit I only really grasped 40% of the scientific and financial aspects of this book….however, I still found the premise fascinating and a real page turner. It‘s shocking to read all the antics, (lack of) ethics, principles and decisions that go into funding, producing and acquiring drugs/ medicines to bring to market. Super disheartening to see who gets rich from these drugs.

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store | James McBride

Third times a charm 🥰 I will admit the old time Philadelphia Jewish angle REALLY kept me hooked. McBride humorously and heartily writes about a Jewish owned grocery store that caters to the black community in Pottstown, Pa. Definitely had Deacon King Kong vibes, with a cast of quirky and zany characters full of wisdom & mirth. The plot is pretty convoluted and McBride tends to overwrite but there‘s a satisfying story if you stick with it.

I read two books set in the 70‘s, each about a serial killer within days of each other. A young wife and mother finds herself restless in her marriage and disheartened with motherhood. She embarks on an affair with a mysterious and dangerous man who may be connected to a serial killer prowling her city. I thought the writing was ok and the pacing was a bit slow but the ending was disappointing 😬 between a pick and so-so

marleed My only book by this author was the tagged which I liked - until and unfortunately I heard her interview about the book. I was so unimpressed, nearly horrified, by her justification of the actions of the farther. It completely destroyed my thoughts about the book and can‘t revisit the author.

This was a re-read for upcoming IRL book club and it was just as impactful and infuriating as the first time I read it. What young unwed birth mothers went through emotionally and physically is beyond heartbreaking. And the social workers, doctors and other professionals behaviors and practices were criminal. For some adoption was the best choice, but for the young women who were forced & coerced into relinquishing both their rights & babies 💔

Struggling to write this review - I liked it but something was off… It‘s an interesting premise for a novel - taking one of the most notorious serial killers in history, refusing to name him yet spin a story from the perspective of one of the sorority women who was in the house the night he murdered raped and strangled two young women and violently assaulted two other sorority sisters. There‘s a secondary story about another victim 👇🏼

Cinfhen Who goes missing in 1974 and her family refuses to believe she may have been a victim of the serial killer but her girlfriend refuses to give up searching for answers. This part of the story I didn‘t “enjoy” as much. I liked the dual narration. #GoodNotGreat 7mo

The sequel to Boy in the Striped Pajamas but could be read as a standalone. This book follows Gretel, the daughter of the Nazi commander of Auschwitz as she tries to put her past behind her and make a new life for herself. I was fully invested in this book but I felt like the writing wasn‘t Boyne‘s finest. This book deals with complacency, grief, guilt, culpability and forgiveness.

Share Your Book Report | Lisa Owings

Another week another book report! Finished 4 books this week although one, The Whalebone Theatre was over 18 hours of audio ( totally worth it!!) I liked North Woods a lot and the Boyne was engaging but definitely not on the same level as past Boyne books. Sandy Hook was a bit of a disappointment because the book was really about the conspiracy theorists who flat out denied the SH murders & basically terrorized the families for years.

Excited to share my October‘s #TitlesAndTunes #Blues @barbarabb 🩵💙 This book has been on my TBR for ages- a story about the “blue people” of Eastern Kentucky - a place known for their bluegrass music 🎻
While researching songs I actually came across a song with the exact book title by the Ruby Friedman Orchestra plus I had to add a nice bluesy remake of Blue Kentucky Moon from LeAnn Rimes 🌚

Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth | Elizabeth Williamson

While the author did a ton of research and really dug deep her primary focus was on the deplorable people who call themselves TRUTHERS ( conspiracy theorists) but they are nothing more than troubled, sick individuals who are allowed to spew nonsense - The events at SH were so heinous and then for people to claim SH was a sham is just beyond cruel. My heart broke for the victims families but this book was not the tribute I was expecting. 👇🏽

Cinfhen It was wayyyy too long and the author went on too many side tangents about other hoaxers, conspiracies and debunkers. 7mo

Cinfhen It‘s beyond heartbreaking @Bklover the author set out to honor the precious innocent lives that were taken and to call out and shame the “truth seekers” who claimed SH was a government hoax. Alex Jones is deplorable 🤬 7mo
