Amiable @monalyisha Yep! In July 1976, the Queen and Prince Phillip visited the US for the bicentennial. They stopped in New Haven between NYC and Boston. My parents took us to the wharf to see them arrive by ship. As a kid, I was hot, tired and bored so I sat on the curb and stuck my legs into the roadway. The Queen, walking the crowd line, stumbled right over me. It‘s now a favorite family story. Not sure the Queen thought it was as amusing as we do. 😬 1y

Since joining I haven‘t posted much about myself, only about books so here is a little chance to get to know more about me. Should also help my partner out a little.

I have a Bachelors in Literary Analysis, minored in Studio Art. My favorite mediums I use are oil paint & printmaking. Huge fan of all things scary since my older sister gave me Necronomicon in my early teens.

CloakNQuill Received my first tarot deck around the same time. I‘m a sucker for a gothic horror book. Musically I listen to absolutely everything. All time favorite is rock; The Doors, Zeppelin, ACDC, King Crimson. Why would one want to discriminate against certain genres? But I digress. People have described me as “grunge”. Also that I‘m so charismatic to the point if I talked to a wall it would talk back. 4y

CloakNQuill Avid coffee & black tea drinker. I even have a coffee percolator tattooed on my leg. Favorite movie, it changes. I was in love with Crimson Peak for a bit. Favorite horror monster: Frankensteins “monster”. My family & I watch a lot of crime shows. I‘m a first generation American. Both parents Sicilian which may contribute to why I love full body dark red wine, espresso & lemons. To be blunt, which I often am, I‘m an open book & don‘t hold back. (edited) 4y

2. No one person inspired my love of reading. I‘ve always been a reader. But I guess my mom, even though she wasn‘t a big reader she always bought me books.

Grandpa died nearly 2 years ago & she reconnected with her now-fiance through Facebook. I always said I'd try my hand at writing if I had a story to tell. I just might have my story! 🤗 4y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Megabooks Less ghosts and no murders! 😁 There was a giant fat guy who'd ask for extra towels, a pillow, & ice to be brought to his room. It wasn't something we would normally do, but he tipped $10-20 so it was worth risking seeing something unsavory. I found the right height to stack them to avoid the nightmare. 4y

4) An elderly dog who is my heart, & 2 awesome kitties.
5) Audiobooks are my favorite IF the narrator is amazing. Otherwise physical or kindle if I‘m desperate.
6) I found a solution to an issue with my feet which almost led me to have to stop hiking. Eek!

EadieB I love it! I live on a hill too and people always slide into the telephone pole where the road curves when it‘s icy. I always use the street across from my driveway but you have to go down the hill very slowly or you will slide into the curb at the bottom when the street turns. You quickly learn the best way to get down the hill! @Mdargusch (edited) 5y

Alfrazier21 The last time I moved is when I finally decided to get a Kindle. We piled all my books in suitcases and made I don‘t know how many trips to the new apartment (I just moved across the street 😂). I did get a Kindle, but I swear I‘ve accumulated more books since the move. 🤦‍♀️ 5y

I wouldn‘t exchange those shoestring travel days for anything! 5y

alisiakae @LauraBeth I would probably enjoy it if my body didn‘t rebel against it. But I have had a chronic knee issue since college, so I try to keep to low impact activities. It‘s why I had to stop at a boot-camp style gym, too. Yoga, hiking and cycling are for me! 5y

LauraBeth Now that people have been doing CrossFit, OrangeTheory and Boot Camps for a while, I think there‘s a market for a gym that caters to women 30-50 who have hurt their knees with those ventures (or like you - have hurt them elsewhere). Low impact HIIT. I‘ll be 48 this year. My body doesn‘t want to flip over tractor tires anymore 😂 5y

alisiakae @LauraBeth YES! My town is the home of the first Burn Boot Camp which has now franchised nationally, so EVERYTHING here is focused on competing with them. Even the local Y does more high-impact classes than anything else. It‘s one reason why I dropped my gym membership and looked for alternatives. There are some great Low-impact HIIT classes on YT. 5y

Kalalalatja @Chrissyreadit that‘s a tough question. I wrote my Master Thesis about rape victims‘ decision to report the crime, and the number weren‘t great. On average 4900 rapes are commited in Denmark each year, only about 900 get reported, and about 50 actually get a guilty verdict. Also, we have all the victim blaming, lack of knowledge and stereotypes here as in other countries, so it is hard for people to step forward. However, we have a lot of help... 5y

Kalalalatja @Chrissyreadit ... centers, but the waiting list is LONG! So in some circles, victims are taken very seriously, but in others we aren‘t much better than other countries. 5y

Klou @Jee_HookedOnBookz Aaaw 😂❤❤! I do love Romance, but it's okay that you don't. It's not for everyone. For Fantasy I can't recommend the game of thrones series enough! I'm on book 2 and it's just so amazing. The writing quality is fantastic and the plot and characters are just so detailed and you can tell it's been thoroughly planned out. It's amazing!!! 5y

Klou @Jee_HookedOnBookz Yes, that's a problem. He released the most recent one 6 yrs ago (I think). And he is still in the process of writing the next one. Then there's one more planned after that so people are getting worried. I have all the books released so far (my set has 7 but there are technically 5 books in the series so far) and I do plan on TRYING to read them all this year. They're all so long though so I'm not very confident I'll do it! 😂 5y

WhatThePuck That's how I felt when she was 5. If you're serious make it permanent. I had to take clomid to get pregnant with her. I have PCOS so I'll still have to take birth control pills so I told my husband it would be a waste of money to have a vasectomy. Except as I aged my hormones started to regulate and missing a pill became a bigger deal. 🤣🤣 I didn't know that until I was 8 weeks pregnant tho. 5y

I had to get over feeling judged, as if I'm selfish for "denying" my child of a sibling. I chose my mental health over adding to our family because I can't deal with the possibility of PPD again. 5y

WhatThePuck @kyraleseberg I used to work 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts. It was like getting my life back when my oldest went to school. Lol. Now I work 5 days a week and he's going to school in 18 months. I might have to drop back to 3 days. 😂 I went to the gym 5 days a week when she started school and lost my baby fat from her it's time I shed his too. 5y

readinginthedark I think that's completely justified! Also, don't worry about being judged by the parenting community. The sad truth is, there are judgmental parents on all sides of all issues. 🙄 There's basically no avoiding them. 5y

britt_brooke If you live in the Nashville area, there is a small group of Litsy folks that gets together each quarter. We usually visit a book shop or swap books with each other and have a meal. Maybe I liked it so much because I wasn't expecting such a treat in the hospital food. I was a kid then. So many years have passed but I still wish I could taste that cake again. But not in a hospital, of course! 5y

Itchyfeetreader @Kaye is that not the question!? I think realistically I would love to find a way to go part time and do either voluntary or paid work in my immediate community for the remainder. Whilst I was off last year I really enjoyed the slightly slower pace and actually feeling like I belonged in the neighbourhood vs just flitting to and from work. It was nice to see the same people every day (but I need to pay the bills!) 5y
