A new IN PERSON, actually even better IN THE PUB, book club has just been set up in my village and I have joined. I‘m so excited, we moved to the area in lockdown and I haven‘t had a chance to meet any fellow bookworms, or many other people really! Now I have to make a suggestion for a book I would like to read... but my TBR list is so long I don‘t even know where to start 😂 What books have your book clubs particularly enjoyed??

JillR I just joined a book group too and was so nervous at the start! We‘ve enjoyed Kim Jiyoung 1982, If I Had Your Face, The Long Afternoon. Some of us enjoyed Burnt Sugar and The Emperors Babe. We‘ve read books i perhaps wouldn‘t have picked but have gained from talking about them after! 3y

I recently joined My Sci-Fi Club, and this was my first shipment. For 17.99 a month, it's two hardback books plus one ebook. The huge Frank Herbert collection (almost 700 pages) was worth the money all by itself.

Sara Cox has a book club on bbc iplayer called, ‘Between the covers‘. She just chats about books with funny people. It‘s really good and the perfect antidote to the depressing news at the mo. 😉 👍

squirrelbrain I‘ve watched both episodes so far and loved it! There‘s a different prog on tonight on Sky Arts. It‘s supposed to be a virtual book club, can‘t remember what it‘s called.... I‘ve set it to download and I‘ll watch it later in the week, see what it‘s like. 4y

Chrissyreadit @Sace any- I just did retellings and have @sprainedbrain ‘s book left- but I have loved three I‘ve read so far. Really the only genre I don‘t love is literary. But even that depends on the book. 5y

The NK Jemisin book doesn‘t come out until March 24th but I think that I could stop reading everything else and finish it before the mail date. InBooksILive I've read the City of Brass, that series is one of my favorites, and Strange the Dreamer. Haven't read the other two, I've had His Majesty's Dragon on my TBR for awhile now but never got around to reading it and the City We Became sounds really good as well! Great choices!! 5y

aeeklund I‘ve read Strange the Dreamer and City of Brass. Been meaning to get to His Majesty‘s Dragon for forever. I‘ve actually also read some of the Jemisin because I have an ARC. I‘d totally be okay with starting over for this book club, though! 5y

Graciouswarriorprincess @Sharpeipup It meets once a month and in a local microbrewery. Tables are reserved and everyone just shows up at 6:30 pm, mingles and grabs food/drinks and at 7 pm, we read silently for an hour. It‘s a lot of fun to see what everyone is reading too. 5y

Finished up the #2030SomethingBookClub‘s monthly meeting! 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Our January meeting is unique in that we don‘t all read the same book; instead, we read the particular book we won in December‘s holiday grab bag and then talk about that one. *Great* way to rapidly build-up one‘s TBR list! At least two people can get your interest piqued, the receiver and the giver.

These are the 2 I read (don‘t know how I wound up with two 😆🤷🏼‍♂️).

Book Clubbing!: Successful Book Clubs for Young People | Carol Littlejohn

We had today our year-end combined meeting with all of the library‘s book clubs 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! 3 book clubs (the first time there is 3 since I started the new one at the main building last year) coming together with each person sharing his/her favorite 1 or 2 favorite reads of the past year. Lots of food and drinks, and we had a holiday grab bag (those books were behind me here, lol). 5 more members eventually showed up.

I think I‘ve narrowed down my pick to one of these. I didn‘t want to choose one that someone‘s already read...no fun discovery there. The others were mostly historical mysteries and not sure everyone loves those. And these two definitely fit the historical fiction category. Please let me know which you all prefer. 😊They both rank closely here and on Amazon.
