TheBookHippie Grief & Anger I have . Same reasons /this isn‘t the future I imagined. I hope you can get care you need. I agree reading more is helpful to feel seen. The get or feel better is odd to me. You have better days but you don‘t get better… 22h
AnnCrystal 🙏🏼😢😘💝. 18h
IriDas These resonated with me as well. And the grief, it‘s a forever process. We will never come to the end of it probably because our society is so against people with any disability. 5h

#RiseUpReads

I really resonated with this book as a fat femme with multiple chronic illnesses. One of which I'm still trying to get a diagnosis for even though I've been dealing with it my whole life. I'm newer to the disabled community so this book was a great learning tool for myself. One of my goals is to find and build disabled support for myself both online and local.

What did y'all think of the book? Anything that stood out?

See All 6 Comments
TheBookHippie I agree community is necessary. I enjoyed the read. 22h
willaful Something I really liked is the inclusion of “Mad“ as a disability, and talking about being crazy. A lot of people think crazy is an ableist term so I have trained myself to avoid it online, but it really resonates with me. Sometimes I just feel crazy and that is the right word!

I also liked the term “horizontal empathy,“ a way of being that gets very little respect or understanding.
(edited) 20h
IriDas I learned a lot from the book and found it both encouraging and challenging. I liked that she didn‘t sugarcoat the difficulties of creating and maintaining community. It opened my eyes to a lot of ableism that I participate in even though I have disabled kids and try to examine my thoughts and actions about this and other internalized isms. 5h

Show and Tell | Patricia Relf

2025 has been rough. I haven't had the bandwidth to do anything with #LitsyCrafters the 1st half of the year. I didn't have the interest to do anything creative until the end of May. But I'm getting back into creating & I want to share that joy with y'all.
So I'm starting #ShowAndTellTuesday 🌟I want to bring some nostalgia & that excitement you had as a kid when it was Show & Tell day at school & you got to show off something you were proud of⬇️

Catsandbooks Each week share anything creative you've made or been working on now or in the past. This can be any type of art, writing, photo, or even food you made. You can post using the image I made above or one of your own. Use the tags #LitsyCrafters & #ShowAndTellTuesday & tag me (@catsandbooks) so we can give you all the gold stars & hype you deserve! 💖🌟 Everyone is welcome! 1w

I haven't seen anything on Litsy about the controversy surrounding these books so I wanted to post something. The 3 books above (Rose in Chains, The Irresistible urge to fall for your enemy, and Alchemised) all originated as HP fan fiction and are/will be trad pub. The trans community has been very clear that this is harmful to them. We all know that JKR is anti-trans and uses her evil money to harm the trans community. ⬇️

Catsandbooks When HP material is promoted in any way it continues to drive support to JKR. These books are being promoted as HP fan fiction and therefore supporting Moldemort's IP. She is also known to be litigious when it comes to her IP, so there's no way that she would allow this promotion without signing off on it. Please listen to trans people when they say something is harmful to them! 2w
Catsandbooks Unfortunately I already ordered subscription boxes containing these books before I knew they were harmful. When I get them I will be selling them and donating the money to the Trans Youth Emergency Project hosted by the Campaign for Southern Equality. https://southernequality.org/tyep/ 2w
5feet.of.fury 💜 great post! I will be avoiding those books also. 2w

seibelsays Dang, 2 of those books were on my wishlist. Thanks for spreading awareness! 2w
lil1inblue Thank you for raising awareness. I was unaware of this story! 💓 2w
BookBr I didn‘t read about this until after I read Rose in Chains and it‘s so disappointing. Selling the books and donating the money to trans support is such a good idea and I will be following suit. (edited) 2w

Librarybelle I hope you feel better! The references to Armenian culture and food were fascinating. I was not fully engage with the book, but I think that‘s due to the audiobook narration. 1mo
AmyG Hope you find yourself feeling better soon. 1mo
ElizaMarie I hope you feel more like yourself soon. Chronic issues definitely affect your mental health - please protect it at all cost. Anyway, the book, the MC kinda annoyed me, like she didn't seem likable, and was too caught up with her x, and then the love interest between the 2 didn't really read well to me. Overwhelming family dynamics transcend cultures, so I enjoyed that aspect of the book. 1mo
Julsmarshall I liked the competition, enjoyed the food and family components but thought the romantic relationship fell a little flat. Still happy I read it and need to go and find some Armenian food 😍 (edited) 1mo

Melismatic I‘ve watched a few dramas bc they often have idol pop stars from music groups I like in them. Very velveeta cheesey but usually very fun. 2mo

peanutnine I've actually never really watched any k dramas 2mo
willaful I started one that a friend recommended and I did enjoy it, but I'm really bad about watching things with subtitles. I don't remember what it was called but each episode was a different period in the life of the hero/heroine (started when she was a little girl, IIRC) and they were played by different people each time, which was a little hard to get used to! I think loss of memory was involved. 2mo
PuddleJumper Anyone that likes the book would probably enjoy Korean Odyssey, I could see a lot of similarities with reading.

My absolute faves that I rewatch are Semantic Error, university enemies to lovers, and Kingdom, historical political drama with zombies.
2mo
PuddleJumper Other supernatural themed romance dramas I would recommend are Tale of the Nine Tailed Fox, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, and Alchemy of Souls.

2mo
PuddleJumper @willaful Find Me in Your Memory? Popular drama from 2020 I think 2mo
willaful This would have been before 2020. 2mo

peanutnine Helpful links, thanks! The author's note was actually included in the audiobook, which I was surprised at as that is not always the case. It is interesting to see what parts were interpreted! I loved all the creatures mentioned but sometimes I wasn't sure how to picture them 2mo
PuddleJumper I never read author notes 😅 2mo
IriDas The audio had the author‘s note. I don‘t know anything about Korean myths but I had assumed it would be like retelling of Greek myths that folks do these days. Where they change some things for the sake of the story. 2mo

peanutnine Oooo gorgeous art! I did love the banter. And I loved the world building! How all the creatures lived among the humans and interacted with the gods was interesting 2mo
PuddleJumper I found it very shallow and the main characters intensely irritating. I enjoyed the mythology and wanted more of that and world building and less of the main characters 🤣 2mo
AnnCrystal That artwork 🤩🎨🖌️💝. 2mo
IriDas I enjoyed it. It reminded me a little of the gods portions of the Iliad. I liked the way the main characters ended up making each other better “people” by the end. 2mo

Catsandbooks @AnnCrystal That's pretty much all I watch. But even the funniest material is not going to fix my depression. That's just not how depression works. I can be laughing & smiling but still depressed. For me, my depression isn't being really sad, it's feeling numb & empty. Being utterly exhausted. Wanting to close my eyes & not deal with anything b/c life & the world feels so overwhelming. But I keep trying every day & that's what matters ❤️ 3mo
AnnCrystal @Catsandbooks that is what matters 😘🙏💝. 3mo

Mental health matters

“The only way out is through…”

My dad committed suicide when I was 10. I've had depression and anxiety my whole life. I take antidepressants. I've done therapy multiple times in my life. I believe it's important to discuss mental health and reduce the stigma around mental illnesses. If anyone is ever struggling I am always here to talk. Please reach out!

AllDebooks That's such a harsh start in life for you. Thank you for sharing your story, positive messages and support links. X 3mo
Susanita Thank you for sharing your story. My mother dealt with bipolar disorder all her life, and we had limited discussions if any as a family. 3mo
Melismatic Echoing what‘s being said here - so many mental health struggles in my family as well. It‘s so much more common than some people wish to believe. So important to walk this road of life with empathy. You never know what someone is going through. 3mo
JenReadsAlot Thank you for sharing. My best friends mom did at the same age so I have seen her struggles. I'm also a therapist ❤️ 3mo
ElizaMarie Thank you for feeling comfortable enough to share this story. I find it very empowering that you can so. By being raw, honest, and candid, you have provided help/hope to those around you. It helps normalize mental health struggles and allows others to feel confident in telling their own stories. I believe stories (like yours, and this book) help in so many ways. 3mo
lil1inblue Thank you for sharing! It can be so helpful and empowering for people to hear that they are not alone in their mental health struggles. One of the worst things about depression is how isolating it can be. ❤ I, too, have had anxiety and depression for most of my life, and I experienced trauma during my childhood. It really helped my healing once I knew I wasn't alone in my experiences. 3mo
peanutnine ❤️❤️❤️ I hope that the stigma surrounding mental health continues to be fought against. I think it's better to be open about things so others don't feel alone 3mo

Folklore and fairytale references

AllDebooks I LOVED this book so very much. 3mo

ElizaMarie Fairytales and folklore were ways to teach important lessons in life. I love how this author used these references in that way as well. It made for such beautiful storytelling. 3mo
lil1inblue I really liked how she used fairytales and folklore from different cultures. I feel like it made the book more universal and relatable, despite your background. 3mo
peanutnine Loved the fairytale aspect!! Definitely made it relatable and I liked how it felt like the characters were on a quest, with different riddles to solve and problems to overcome 3mo

I really enjoyed this fantasy told in verse about depression, trauma, and the journey to heal.

For me I noticed that they finally could heal when the truth was revealed and everyone started communicating with each other. While the truth isn't always accessible, communication and talking through things instead ignoring or trying to forget about them is necessary to work through issues.

#riseupreads

Melismatic I enjoyed this - I definitely think it‘s the type to lend itself to a reread to spot all of the hidden metaphors at play. 3mo
See All 6 Comments
ElizaMarie I agree - I think the fact that they weren't able to heal initially is because they are hiding the truth from themselves. Pain/grief/emotional turmoil doesn't go away when we ignore it, and I think this book does a great job at reminding its readers that they must go “through“ it in order to heal. I loved this narrative. I listened to this one (which was read beautifully), but I feel like re-reading at a slower pace may be in order soon. 3mo
lil1inblue Totally agree re: revealing the truth to heal. That part really hit home for me. The parts about the forgetting spells were really powerful for me. 3mo
peanutnine I waited til the last minute to read this one and then devoured it in like two days. I really loved it! I thought it stressed beautifully how memory plays a big role in grief, and how trauma can warp your understanding of what really happened. Confronting the truth can be difficult but ultimately promotes healing 3mo
