@TimSpalding posting for @Gissy She only gets a blank screen for Litsy. Any suggestions on how to fix it? She has also sent an email.

PagesByTheWater I was having the problem too. It was fixed once I deleted the app and reinstalled it. 6y
Chrissyreadit @PagesByTheWater I will send her that message. 6y

BookishMarginalia @PagesByTheWater Me too. Yesterday. Deleting and reinstalling fixed it (though glitching with stickers — missing in action) 6y
TheLibrarian @Chrissyreadit Deleting and reinstalling the app worked for me too. 6y
BookishMarginalia @Gissy emailed me and I told her to do that. 6y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage This happened to me after I updated the app. I signed out and signed back in and that worked. 6y
IndoorDame Deleting and reinstalling the app and changing my password worked for me this morning. 6y
jenreads7 Deleting and reinstalling worked for me too. Nice Bitmoji avatar, @IndoorDame . Looks familiar. 🤔😂 6y
DHill After I updated I signed out and back in and that worked. 6y
kamoorephoto I had to reinstall! 6y
Gissy I did it!!! 😓 6y
Chrissyreadit @Gissy yahoo! 👏👏👏👏 6y
Macnjen Same here, I panicked but it worked. 6y
TimSpalding Hi. You don't need to delete and reinstall. Just sign out and sign in again. Our apologies for the inconvenience. 6y
jenreads7 @Chrissyreadit 👍🏻 Thanks! I‘m storing that information away for next time. 😊 6y

I know we had a recent update on Litsy. I‘m wondering if anyone is having the problems that I am. I can no longer get Litsy on my iPad...It comes up completely blank. I tried removing, and then adding, the Litsy app, and now it won‘t even let me in. It keeps saying my password is incorrect. When I try to change it to get in, it just goes to a webpage. I‘m using my phone right now, but I can‘t see very well with it, so it‘s very difficult.

gradcat I don‘t even know who to contact about this. If anyone can help me, please let me know! This is very sad for me, esp. at this time, as I‘m really having Meniere‘s problems at the moment, thus it‘s so hard to read small print. Thanks everybody❤️ 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Have you emailed LibraryThing? @timspading 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @gradcat @kgriffith @lorannen Maybe that can help tomorrow since it‘s already late. I‘m sorry you are having problems 6y
See All 18 Comments
gradcat @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thanks for that! I‘d forgotten about that avenue!! ❤️❤️ 6y
CarolynM Good luck! Sorry you're experiencing Meniere's - I've had similar issues, it's awful. Hope it settles soon💐 6y
CouronneDhiver Litsy@librarything.com 6y
AntoinetteBuchanan I had the problem of nothing loading. I logged out and then logged back in again. Worked a treat. I contacted Litsy via Facebook 6y
Weaponxgirl I just logged out and in again. Hope you find a solution soon! 6y
gradcat @CarolynM Thank you 🙏 😊❤️ 6y
gradcat @AntoinetteBuchanan @Weaponxgirl Okay..It is now up, and I got on. But I‘ve had to uninstall & reinstall twice now, because if I get off...when I come back on, it will not move off the Litsy intro page. In other words, every time I get off, I end up having to uninstall & reinstall again...in a word, ugh—pain in the you know what. Maybe I just have to leave the app open forever! 😱 6y
Birdsong28 Did that with my Amazon Kindle Fire app ages ago so I just use my phone now 😘📚📖 6y
Amandajoy I just had to delete and reload it on my iPhone. I would see if you can use your phone to double check your password. 6y
gradcat @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @CarolynM @CouronneDhiver @AntoinetteBuchanan @Weaponxgirl @Birdsong28 @Amandajoy Thanks to each and every one of you lovely Littens!! I am happy to say the app is now working (knock on wood) and has been holding steady for the last few hours. Thanks so much—I didn‘t even have to contact Librarything! I‘m SO relieved! Phew 😅 😍😊 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @gradcat you‘re welcome!! 6y
Redwritinghood I had the same problem. I reinstalled the app and it works ok now. 6y
gradcat @Redwritinghood Yes, I‘m happy to say that after a few fumbles, my Litsy app is just fine now...YAY!! 😊😊😊 6y
Aussie4paws Yes.does not update on my pad s4 (edited) 6y
gradcat @aussie4paws What kind of tablet do you have? Is it an iPad 4? Anyway, the app is working for you, so that‘s a good thing at least, right? 6y

Can anyone help please?! I've just downloaded the Goodreads app onto my phone and linked it to my Facebook account. I already have Goodreads on my Kindle and I have tried to link it to the account on my phone but I'm not sure if it has worked. I'm don't know how to do it 💁‍♀️ Thanks in advance :)

emilyrose_x Think I might just give in and create a completely new account 😂 6y
Soubhiville I‘m trying to remember how I made them link... I think I had to connect with email address and create a new password. Sorry that may not be helpful... 6y
emilyrose_x @Soubhiville I can't work out how to change the account on my Kindle. It only gives me the option to unlink it from the Amazon account 😕 6y

Birdsong28 Can you not just sign in on the app using Facebook @emilyrose_x 😀📚📖 6y
emilyrose_x @Birdsong28 That is what I did... 🤔 6y
Birdsong28 @emilyrose_x Is it working now? I have mine linked with my Amazon account 😀📚📖 6y
emilyrose_x @Birdsong28 It doesn't seem to be. Unless it is taking a while to sync? 6y

Any help from you incredible Littens would be gloooorrrrious ☺️! I need to include the top authors who would be considered humorists, past and present. Are there any you can think of that I haven't listed here? I can add maybe a half-dozen more names. Humor can be a rather nebulous genre to pin down, no? Thank you for your insights! 😁 #LitsyLovesLibraries

Jess7 The ones that come to my mind are celebrities - not sure if one book enough to add them or not: Trevor Noah, Leah Remini, Amy Schumer... definitely: Kelly Oxford (she has two funny books). 7y
Jess7 Maybe Bunmi Laditan too. She wrote Confessions of a Domestic Failure and 7y
See All 35 Comments
Andrew65 John Irving? Only read the one but thought it was very humorous. 7y
britt_brooke Also, great list so far! (edited) 7y
DivaDiane Terry Pratchett? 7y
Aloisi_tribe Bill Bryson 7y
jenniferw88 Are you including poetry? T S Eliot, Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll 7y
manifestsanity Terry Southern. 7y
LiteraryinPA Sarah Andersen or Kate Beaton, maybe? 7y
Moray_Reads Jerome K Jerome? 7y
HeatherBookNerd Bill Bryson might qualify 7y
KellyK Twain wrote some pretty humorous stuff. 7y
Andrew65 @HeatherBookNerd I also thought about Bill Bryson. 7y
CAnne Love, love love Erma Bombeck. I'm giving my age away here but I remember first reading her when she was just a syndicated columnist. 7y
HeatherBookNerd Nora Ephron 7y
rwmg Is Saki not known in your part of the world? 7y

Littens: What should I add to my #audio #TBR?? I'm still an audio newbie and have pretty much stuck to memoirs, but I need to branch out. Any suggestions (memoirs included) are much appreciated. ☺️

SarahSaysRead Trevor Noah's book is FANTASTIC on audio. 7y
AnnieReads Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes and read by Bronson Pinchot who is a most excellent narrator. 7y
See All 60 Comments
TheWordJar I've enjoyed Not My Father's Son by Alan Cumming and The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman. Also anything by/narrated by Neil Gaiman is fantastic! 7y
Yeah_I_Read If you like YA at all The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Saga (1-3) were awesome on audio. Also Shadowshapers. It was narrated by Anika Noni Rose the girl who did the voice for Tiana in Princess and the Frog. I find that I enjoy listening to YA books bc they aren't usually too heavy and I can use the other half of my concentration for something else 7y
BethwithBooks I second @SarahSaysRead for Trevor Noah. Anything narrated by Stephen Fry or Jim Dale is a win for me (I.e. The Night Circus) and if you're feeling YA I really liked the Lunar Chronicles on audio. Oh! And Tina Fey Bossy Pants (or really any comedy memoir narrated by the author especially Jenny Lawson things) 7y
LauraBrook I was going to suggest Alan Cumming, Ready Player One, and The Martian, so let's see what else I can dig out of my brain. Oh! How about Jim Gaffigan - if you like his humor, of course. Hellhound on His Trail by Hampton Sides was really good, I listened to that a few years ago. I've liked every Agatha Christie I've heard, all the narrators are great. And The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley was great too. Will keep thinking! 7y
swishandflick Definitely Born a Crime. Or Outlander! 7y
Snow My favorite recent listen is "Everything You Told Me" by Lucy Dawson (narrated by Jessica Ball) 7y
Snow Oh yes but all time fave is "Furiously Happy" by Jenny Lawson! 7y
L_auren Another vote for Ready Player One and adding a vote for Behold the Dreamers. Also, any Liane Moriarty 7y
Booksnchill Lincoln in the Bardo- insane number of individual narrators, Assassination Vacationby Sarah Vowell and I co-sign @Snow with "furiously happy" by Jenny Lawson 7y
Redwritinghood Anything Neil Gaimon is great on audio. Also, the Thursday Next series is great on audio. The first one is (edited) 7y
BooksAtNight I second @Redwritinghood in recommending Neil Gaiman - that man's voice is liquid gold. I listened to the Cormoran Strike series on audio; if you are okay with swear words, the narrator is exactly how I'd imagine Cormoran. American Fire was also excellent on audio. And anything with a full cast is great; I just got through The Golden Compass. 7y
Jayhawk_In_Texas I agree with everyone - Trevor Noah's book is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to! And I also love Jenny Lawson on audio. 7y
BkClubCare Stephen King novels always seem to be exceptional well done. I have some fave narrators, Simon Vance and Juliet Stevenson come top of mind. My fave audio EVER is King's IT. I always rec Beautiful Ruins and Heft for a good listen experience. I sample a LOT because narrators are important. Oh! Have you tried H is for Hawk? V. Good 7y
BkClubCare @Jayhawk_In_Texas - oh yes!! For Trevor Noah! 7y
BBooks Anything Neil Gaiman, he narrates his own books and its FABULOUS. Neverwhere, Ocean at the End Of the Lane is a great start! 7y
BBooks Also try David Sadaris he narrates his own books too 7y
Tamra The Help was AWSOME on audio. It was one of the first audio books I tried and I think there are 3 different readers. Totally engaging. 7y
TheJOMOreader In Cold Blood gives me chills every time! 7y
britt_brooke @SarahSaysRead @Sharpeipup @BethwithBooks @LauraBrook @swishandflick @Snow @L_auren @Booksnchill @Jayhawk_In_Texas @BBooks Thanks, you guys! A lot of great suggestions! I've read several of them in print - Trevor Noah, Jenny Lawson, RP1, The Martian, Lincoln in the Bardo, all Sedaris (been listening to him recently as well 💚), so I'll keep those in mind for eventual rereads! Adding the rest to my potential list. ☺️👏🏻 (edited) 7y
britt_brooke @Tamra I saw this was available on overdrive and I'm considering listening to it as a reread - thanks! 7y
britt_brooke @LibrarianAF I can't imagine this one on audio! The print version was chilling. Great book! 7y
britt_brooke @BkClubCare Thank you!! 7y
SarahSaysRead @britt_brooke Yeah I would say it would definitely be worth it to re-read via audio. The voice he does for his young self and his mom is priceless. 7y
britt_brooke @SarahSaysRead Thanks! It's definitely on my list! I love his voice. 7y
ptkpepe98 I literally laughed while listening to Al Franken, Giant of the Senate. Testimonial by Anita Shreve was really well read. My 1st audiobook was amazing - Kate Mulgrew read Joe Hill's NOS4A2. She is so good. Have fun! 7y
Alicia If you like Sci Fi anything by John Scalzi narrated by Wil Wheaton. I also recently loved Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. 7y
britt_brooke @Alicia Thank you! I loved Smoke Gets in Your Eyes in print. I need to listen in audio sometime. 7y
mjdowens I agree about The Help. My first audiobook also. I laughed so much 7y
prowlix Robin Miles is one of my favorite narrators and she has a wide range of genres she's read. I really loved Hidden Figures 7y
prowlix Also if you are interested in something more unsettling as an audio book You is great as is Girl With All The Gifts 7y
britt_brooke @mjdowens So good to hear! I'll have to listen to it soon. Loved it in print and the movie. 💚 7y
britt_brooke @prowlix Thank you! 7y
Tamra @britt_brooke highly entertaining with voices! 7y
sammisho I really loved this one! 7y
sammisho And another one of my favorites 7y
sammisho Just went through the comments. Everything that @Yeah_I_Read said. I just finished Shadowshaper...very good! 7y
Avanders I agree with Daughter of Smoke and Bone.. and add the attached bc I just really liked the reading of it! And BoneShakers was also really well done. ... I could probably go on... 😜 7y
britt_brooke @sammisho Thank you!! 7y
britt_brooke @Avanders Thank you! 7y
SoniaC Some of my favorite audiobooks have been A Man Called Ove, The Farm, The Hike, Middlesex, The Snow Child, The Soul of an octopus, and Hunger 7y
britt_brooke @SoniaC Thanks so much! 7y
BookBabe All the Ugly and Wonderful Things, The Girls by Emma Cline, The Shadow of the Wind, Modern Lovers by Emma Straub, The Red Garden, Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, The Lake House, The Snow Child, The Girl with All the Gifts, The Goldfinch, The Husband's Secret, Lust for Life by Irving Stone, The Girl on the Train, The Rosie Project, Blindness by Saramago, The Virgin Suicides, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Needful Things, Middlesex, Dead Wake, Unbroken (edited) 7y
BookBabe Whew! I used up my character allotment to the very last one on that comment! 😂🙌🏻 7y
britt_brooke @BookBabe Awesome - thanks SO much!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
DocBrown Agree with all the kudos for David Sedaris. And Ready Player One is the only book that kept me going for 16 miles. Toni Morrison narrates all her own, as does my all-time personal favorite, Nora Ephron. I'm a sucker for authors who do their own narration. Long books that are worth the time include The Goldfinch, The Blazing World, Middlesex, and A Little Life. NOT worth the investment, IMHO, is 7y
britt_brooke @mdhughes72 I love Sedaris! Thanks for the other suggestions. 👍🏻 7y

CocoReads Killers of the Flower Moon was excellent! 7y
Redwritinghood Sorry, but I haven't read any of these yet. American Fire and Killers of the Flower Moon are on my TBR list, though. 7y
Merethebookgal I haven't read any of these, but I do have Meddling Kids on my shelf waiting to be read. 7y

HELP!!! I am in a reading slump! I need something good on audio for my 45min commute. The Untold Story of the Talking Book bored me to tears... I've been bingeing Series of Unfortunate Events and need something quick to get me back in the reading game.

Lupita.Reads I'm new to audiobooks this one really changed my mind about them. Such a fun one! 7y
Ruri_kaichou His Dark Materials, Ready Player One, A Man Called Ove, Handmaid's Tale.... 7y
Brenley @Ruri_kaichou I've read all except A Man Called Ove and it's on my TBR... thanks!!! 7y

DarcysMom I have listened to nearly the entire Chronicles of St. Mary's - they are fantastic! The first one is 7y
CouronneDhiver Just about everyone likes this one on audio: 7y
Ruri_kaichou Nice! A Man Called Ove so well done! Also the KingKiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. 7y
Redwritinghood Anything in the Thursday Next series is good on audio. 7y
Brenley @Redwritinghood I love that series! I've never tried it on audio, but that would be great!! 7y
Brenley @DarcysMom that looks so interesting! Thanks! 7y
Brenley @CouronneDhiver I NEED to read Born a Crime and that other looks really interesting! Thanks! 7y
StephanieMarie Recent audios I've enjoyed are The Looking Glass Wars and A discovery of Witches 7y

Suggestions? I think she is at a crossroads.

OrangeMooseReads Men Explain Things to Me - Rebecca Solnit; Between the World and Me - Ta-Nehisi Coates; On Tyranny - Timothy Snyder; Citizen - Claudia Rankine .... those are a few that even as a liberal I found to be helpful in further opening my eyes. 8y
Chessa Do you think she'd prefer fiction or nonfiction? Perhaps essays? 8y

Tcip Truly truly. Between the world and me. It will change your life. 8y
Tcip Any book by someone who is not American. Nationalism is a real killer of non American ideals so it's important we read from people not in our patriotic society. I recommend born a crime or we should all be feminists. 8y
Tcip Narconomics as well. It puts the security budget into a completely different perspective. 8y
Loretta This is almost a "gentle" feminist book... about how societal norms shape our world view. 8y
AllenTStClair This may sound silly, but I find reading stories about minority characters, or people different than myself, that are not preachy, make me really examine my own ideas. Push: A Novel by Sapphire, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, The Casual Vacancy by J K Rowling, And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini....great places to start. 8y
Laura317 I'm a conservative person, and I found this eye-opening. 8y
Tcip Casual vacancy would be a good one about perspective. 8y

Finished my first #audiobook of the year and I am looking for recommendations! What's one that is captivating and easy to following along too? Note: I've found that non fiction audiobooks are a bit more easy to listen to, but I'm open to anything that's got a super captivating narrator. Many thanks in advance for your suggestions Littens!

Lindy If you are interested in the Baileys Prize longlist titles, I really like this one in audio: (edited) 8y
Beachesnbooks I have a hard time paying attention to audiobooks (and auditory learning in general) but these have worked well for me: 8y
Maike Or if you want a fiction title (read by Lin-Manuel Miranda) 8y
annahenke Best audiobook I've ever listened to. 8y
Lupita.Reads @Maike I've always wanted to read Aristotle and Dante! So awesome that Lin-Manuel Miranda reads it!!!!! Definitely adding it! 8y
Lupita.Reads @Beachesnbooks Why Not Me? Was my favorite! I haven't read Shrill yet and I don't know much about it. Could you describe it in one word? :) 8y
Maike @Lupita.Reads that was what convinced me to listen to the audio rather than read the book. His voice is just perfect for this. 8y
Lupita.Reads @Lindy such a good read! Loved The Book of Unknown Americans! 8y
Lupita.Reads @8little_paws love me a good memoir! 8y
8little_paws Seconding the memoirs that I see linked above, adding the following 8y
Lupita.Reads @8little_paws thank you!!!!! 8y
[DELETED] 3144876009 Sleeping Giants, The Soul of an Octopus, An Ember In The Ashes, Hag-Seed. 8y
missberlyreads I second Born A Crime, Redefining Realness, & Aristotle And Dante Discover The Secrets Of The Universe. 8y
missberlyreads Also, while long I LOVED Robert Caro's LBJ bios. And I recommend The Good House by Tananarive Due, and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah 8y
DGRachel Yes, Born A Crime was incredible. If you can do fiction, The Girl with all the Gifts was amazing on audio and right now I'm listening to a full cast production of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, which may just be my favorite audiobook of all time. It's fantastic! 8y
Cinfhen Best audio was 8y
Merethebookgal For memoirs, I've listened to Bossypants, Yes Please, Furiously Happy, The Clancys of Queens, Year of Yes, and As You Wish. Some were better than others, but they were all good on audio. 8y
BooksAtNight I found it easier to get into audiobook fiction by listening to children's fiction. Full cast productions are also amazing if you can find them. The two I listened to most recently are The Princess Academy and The Golden Compass. Also basically anything Neil Gaiman narrates. 8y
Merethebookgal I also have been sticking mostly to non-fiction audiobooks, but some fiction that has worked for me via audio are Agatha Christie's mysteries. 8y
ItsAnotherJen Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a fantastic audiobook! 8y
Loretta As read by Ms. Angelou herself 8y
Denisereads75 The Martian was great on audio! It was my first audio book and I was a little let down with my next fiction audio. I just finished listening to The Glass Castle: A Memoir. It was great and even my 13 year old enjoyed listening to it. 8y
Lupita.Reads @Loretta that is amazing suggestion! I loved the book but I bet having her read it much more amazing! 8y
libchristina I just finished listening to this audiobook. It was a painful but important read. The narrator was great. 8y
ErikasMindfulShelf My non-fiction recommendation is (edited) 8y
heatherspoetlife Loved this one All the Single Ladies on audio and this one for memoirs. I LOVE memoirs on audio 8y
MatchlessMarie I loved Stephen King's narration for his book On Writing. I also enjoy Jeff Lindsay's narration of his Dexter series, if you're into that. 😉🔪 8y

I'm trying to work my way through the tbr shelves in my room, & need help choosing my next read!!

Viji I loved Amy Schumer's book! 8y
Maike Ah that's tough 😳 I'd probably go with the Gaiman 8y
CrowCAH Ooh lots of good selections! Read the book recommended, cause I'm currently listening to it 😊 It's a fun story, though, a little predictable at times. 8y

NovelGirl82 @CrowCAH I was considering that one, since the sequel is out this month. It is definitely at the top! @Maike Which Gaiman? I have Trigger Warning & Norse Mythology 😊 8y
Maike @NovelGirl82 oh I only saw Trigger Warning on the picture 😇 but if you have it, I'd say Norse Mythology, because I'm ridiculously excited for it and can't wait to get my hands on a copy 😄 8y

Help needed please. A friend's son is turning 5 and I'd like to get him some books but no idea about books for his age. Thanks!

StephBengtson The Stinky Cheese Man is one of my favorites to give. The little boy I babysit has me read it for him every time. 8y

JacqMac This was a favorite of all my boys. 8y
Angeles Anything by Mo Willems. His elephant and piggy series is great but don't let the pigeon drive the bus was my son favorite. You have to read it in a really whining voice and scream really loudly when pigeon screams Noooooo 😈 8y
BookInMyHands This is a series that my son still considers a comfort read, now at 8. Mercy is a pig who thinks she's a person- and her owners treat her like one. Somehow the fire department always shows up! 8y
Caroline2 I want my hat is so funny! My little boy is 5 and loves it! 8y
Oryx Went down very well with a friend's little boy 8y
TheWordJar We've enjoyed The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day theCrayons Came Home, especially the latter. Lots of "sordid" tales of what happens to crayons when they aren't cared for. But they do come back to a loving home! :) 8y
ABookishHart Anything by Mo Willems really but his Pig and Elephant series is a fave in our house. Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is also hilarious! 8y
julesG Let me see, our bookshelves have: The Diary of a Wombat (and sequels). The Gruffalo. Winnie the Witch. A wonderfully illustrated version of "Peter and the Wolf" (with CD) and 8y
HippieChickHomeschool I have to second anything by Mo Willems, The day the crayons quit/came back, and the Gruffalo. I would add The Book With No Pictures (hilarious) and Press Here which is really fun and interactive, perfect for wiggly kids. 8y
Caroline2 The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Stick Man (all by Julia Donaldson) are also firm favourites! 8y
monkeygirlsmama I was also going to suggest any books by Mo Willems. 8y
Prairiegirl_reading Robert Munsch books are fun! 8y

DeborahSmall Julia Donaldson X10 Books Collection Set https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1509801251/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MUEOybKD56D8Q this is a fantastic bargain. Julia Donaldson is still a favourite of Sophie's. Room on the broom, smartest giant in town. All great books. I bought a few of these sets as Xmas gifts. They came in a cool tote bag with the Gruffalo on one side and squash and a squeeze on other xxx 8y
AThousandLives87 Pete the Cat!!! 8y
Smangela I agree with @TheWordJar 8y
ScorpioBookDreams @DeborahSmall Julia Donaldson seems like a popular choice! Thanks for the link. I don't think he gets bought many books and I want to make sure he falls in love with reading!! Xx 8y
DeborahSmall One of the little boys I bought them for didn't read much but loved these as some are featured in his preschool class and he was familiar with a few. My nephew already had a couple but worth doubling up for the great price, such a bargain x 8y
ErikasMindfulShelf My 5-year old son loves Captain Underpants 8y

Alright Litsy I need your help.

I've been muddling in and out of depression lately and need a damn good book. I've been reading a lot of duds. It's not that I haven't enjoyed the books I've read at all, but reading has been feeling like a chore. I need something riveting. I want something that will suck me in for a while, and I haven't been having much luck. Doesn't need to be lighthearted, happy, or fluffy. I would love your suggestions!

B.Reader Can you give examples of some past favorites or things that have grabbed you? 8y
BookishFeminist @8little_paws Not yet but I have it! 8y
See All 158 Comments
mauveandrosysky The Circle by Dave Eggers. It's totally flawed but it truly was riveting and I didn't want to put it down. 8y
8little_paws Both those books felt like an escape. For more of a supernatural departure, maybe the Bone Street Rumba series? 8y
BookishFeminist @B.Reader Honestly it varies and I love to be surprised so I want to leave it open. Just want ideas of what some Litsy favorites are! 8y
mauveandrosysky (Also I'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling depressed. I hope it passes soon...as much as it can, I mean. ❤) 8y
Hooked_on_books I found this completely transporting: 8y
BookishFeminist @8little_paws Ohh thanks!! I have enchanted islands and actually just ordered the last two DJO books yesterday. 😂 8y
Adventures_of_a_French_Reader My favorite book of all time has been recently translated again into English. It's The Mysteries of Paris by Eugene Sue. The main character, Rodolphe, will bring you in the bad neighborhoods of Paris in the 19th century. It's more than 1000 pages long, but gosh it's worth the journey ;) (PS: I read it in French) 8y
BookishFeminist @mauveandrosysky Sitting on my shelf—perfect! And thank you ❤️ it'll pass I'm sure. I'm going to ask my doctor to up my meds I think. Between post-election stuff & winter funk, it's been trying. Day at a time. :) (edited) 8y
BookishFeminist @wanderlustywriter Thanks! I've been really curious about that trilogy and may have to grab it from the library. 8y
BookishFeminist @Suelizbeth It was good! I read it at the end of last year and enjoyed it :) 8y
wanderlustywriter @BookishFeminist It sounds weird, but it's amazing. Also, every book by Tana French is incredible, but don't read her looking for a happy ending 8y
BookishFeminist @mauveandrosysky Thanks! I will have to give that a shot sooner than later then. :) 8y
BookishFeminist @JulietteGF Oh thanks! I wouldn't need the translation if I can get my hands on a French copy. That sounds wonderful. :) Great suggestion! 8y
EvieBee I was helping care for a terminally ill relative and I was so low in spirits. I remember picking up this book and escaping. It blew me away. (edited) 8y
BookishFeminist @wanderlustywriter I've been waiting for the right time to try out Tana French. This might just be it! Happy ending definitely not a prerequisite. I love dark stuff. (edited) 8y
merelybookish Do you ever read children's literature? I love Rebecca Stead's novels. They are poignant and sweet and human. Goodbye Stranger is such a good read. 8y
wanderlustywriter @BookishFeminist Oh, then she's perfect for you 8y
BookInMyHands This one sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. I lost way too much sleep while reading it. Also, sending ❤️ 8y
BookishFeminist @EvieBee84 That looks great. Thank you. Sounds like the perfect thing I need right now. Stacked! 8y
BookishFeminist @merelybookish Every once in a while. That sounds good! Thank you! 8y
KatyAliceReads Every Heart a Doorway is a lovely quick read. There is a murder mystery in there but it's not the most important or interesting element. 8y
BookishFeminist @BookInMyHands Thanks ❤️ I've been eyeing that one for a while, now just to get off the holds list for it at the library!! 8y
AMVP This was a book I really enjoyed from last year; kinda in the same vein as The Alchemist, but more leisurely and textured. 8y
BookishFeminist @KatyAliceReads I loved that book! Seanan McGuire is great. 8y
heatherspoetlife I had a surprisingly good time with this one. Its YA and was just fun and it toyed with some popular YA tropes without either playing totally into them or totally dismantling them. And the romance was a little lovey dovey in a HP kind of way. 8y
BookishFeminist @AMVP Oh I've been really curious about that one ever since the cover grabbed me but haven't looked into it too much. Stacked, thank you! 8y
britt_brooke Have you read Simon yet? I read it recently and, god, I loved it. 8y
heatherspoetlife @BookInMyHands Me too! Ember was amazing and I loved the sequel too. I burned through the audio with an earbud in all day. The family was a little annoyed but they got over it. 8y
Sparkpuppypup I'm reading The Underground Railroad right now. While definitely not spirit lifting, it sure is very hard to put down! (Also, boy do I hear ya. 😕) 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Sending hugs. But no suggestions. Everything is kind of heavy and bleak...Still recovering from 8y
Lizpixie I couldn't put this down. If you want a fantasy novel, this is the one. 8y
Lizpixie If you want something light & happy this is fantastic. 8y
kgriffith I've been pulling out rereads lately for this very reason: Mercedes Lackey's Arrows of the Queen and Brandon Mull's Fablehaven are my comfort right now. 8y
Ruri_kaichou If you want more fantasy, try the Xanth novels. They are wonderfully fluffy, fun, adventure-filled and full of puns! 8y
BookishFeminist @StoredFeminism I'll stick it on my list, thank you! And you said the audio is good for Ember and the Ashes? I might just grab that on audio now. 🤓 8y
BookishFeminist @britt_brooke I haven't, but I'm moving it up my stack! Thank you!! 8y
BookishFeminist @Sparkpuppypup Definitely don't need anything spirit lifting, just something that's damn good. But I agree! I read this last year and it's fantastic. 8y
Jae Michael Charbon Moonglow. Such a beautiful story. 8y
BookishFeminist @CherylDeFranceschi Thanks ❤️ I don't need anything light or fluffy. I love dark and bleak stuff, lol. I just want something good. So I'm putting Idaho higher on my list now. ;) (edited) 8y
BookishFeminist @Lizpixie Thanks! I'll put Bookshop on my list though I definitely don't need light & happy! Though sometime's it's nice. The Fifth Season is fantastic! I'm already planning a reread of it since it's our pick for @LitsyFeministBookClub this month. 8y
BookishFeminist @GlitterFemme Score, I haven't read Mercedes Lackey oddly enough though she's been on my list FOREVER. Maybe I'll give her a shot soon! Also been meaning to try Fablehaven :) thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @Ruri_kaichou I devoured those books when I was younger! I might revisit them. Thanks for the suggestion! 😀 8y
BookishFeminist @hyacinth Sitting on my shelf and blurbed by Margaret Atwood! 😀 Moving up my tbr. 8y
BookishFeminist @Jae Maybe I'll go buy that after all. I'm a big fan of chabon and was going to wait for a while but might just take the dive. Thank you!! (edited) 8y
kgriffith Awesome! Feel free to hit me up re Lackey, I've read most of her Valdemar books. The Vanyel trilogy is my favorite by far, but I can't read it when I'm in a bleak place. Arrows of the Queen was my entry point, and the book that started my love of Fantasy novels. 💜 8y
Chachic My favorite series is the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner so I always recommend it whenever I get the chance. You seem to enjoy fantasy so it might work. The first book is more MG but the rest are YA, and they have political intrigue and strong female characters.💖 8y
Notafraidofwords Few of my favorites: Guapa, Ordinary Light, 8y
BookishFeminist @GlitterFemme Vanyel trilogy it is 😉 I love dark stuff, and while I'm in a bleak place right now that kind of thing tends to help me through it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to see what my library has in. Tamora Pierce and Anne McCaffrey were my fantasy starters :) 8y
Lizpixie No worries @BookishFeminist I've just ordered The Obelisk Gate on bookdepository.com and have the third book on every wishlist I have. They're so good. Bookshop is a great book too, it's not just light & happy, I read it in four hours coz I couldn't put it down. Picked it up, looked up at the end at it was 3am! 8y
kgriffith Awesome, I expect a full report as soon as you want to start talking about it (because you will) 😊 8y
Notafraidofwords & feel better, feel free to text me! 8y
Godmotherx5 @BookishFeminist I have two suggestions. Hopefully, you haven't read these two. 8y
Joanne1 A man called Ove if you've not already read it. 8y
balletbookworm Quick and fun (and funny!) all ages comic. The MC has a ferret named Rocky and her dad owns a donut shop 😃 8y
Jae I don't think you'll regret it. It is sad but so positive in the end. Hope things start to look up. 😊😊 8y
BooksForYears Patti Smith's M Train is a mix of travelogue, adventures in coffee drinking, and beautiful memories. It's touching, dreamy, and just a tad bonkers. 8y
LeahBergen I can't remember if you've read this? 8y
LeahBergen It sucked me in. 👍🏼 8y
BookMusings Here are the ones from the last few months that I loved. 8y
BookishFeminist @BookMusings These are all great suggestions, thank you!! I read and loved Girl Waits with Gun but maybe I'll substitute the sequel :) 8y
BookishFeminist @LeahBergen I haven't read that yet! I love Sarah Waters though & have Fingersmith I think. Thank you!! 😘 8y
Addy_or My favorite has been silence it's really deep/cheesy 8y
BookishFeminist @BooksForYears I love M Train & Patti Smith. ❤️ I read it on a trip to NYC last year and it was perfect. Wish she had more books! 8y
BookishFeminist @PatienceFortitude Patricia C Wrede is great! I love her :) thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @MaleficentTheBookDragon Thanks!! I have those both on my shelf. I'll push them up my list :) 8y
BookishFeminist @balletbookworm Need! This sounds perfect 😀 8y
BookishFeminist @theshrinkette Thanks!! I loved this one but maybe I'll give Everything, Everything a go :) 8y
BookishFeminist @Joanne1 Read it this year and liked it a lot! Thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @Godmotherx5 I keep meaning to read Relish so maybe I'll grab that soon. I tried Romeo and/or Juliet and enjoyed it but the constant page flipping drives me nuts 😂 8y
BookishFeminist @Notafraidofwords Oh I need to get to Guapa already! It's been sitting on my shelf for a while. Ordinary Light too. I love Sandra Cisneros so I'll have to check Loose Woman out. And thank you ❤️❤️ things haven't been so bad I've just been a bit of a nihilist lately 😂 I'll def text you 😘 8y
BookishFeminist @Chachic I definitely enjoy fantasy and haven't had enough of it lately so this might be the trick 😀 thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @Addy_or Thanks! I haven't heard of that one before but I'll add it to my list. Sounds good. 8y
BooksForEmpathy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. 8y
Yamich49 Sorry you've been having a hard time lately! I hope you find a book that sucks you right in and distracts you from real life. I'm here if you need to talk or anything. ❤ 8y
Cinfhen No suggestions at the moment but wanted to send XOX's 🤗😘🤗hoping you find a good escape 8y
alisonrose I'm sorry things have been tough for you lately. A few book suggestions that fully enchanted me (these are not recent reads but some of my all time faves): The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey; The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker; In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez; Uprooted by Naomi Novik 💗 8y
BookNerdBritt The author's an ass, but damn if I didn't read The Serpent King in one sitting. 💕 (edited) 8y
Chachic Oh if you're willing to try urban fantasy, my favorite is the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. The first two books are a little slow but it really takes off on the third one. Good luck with your slump! 8y
mischa Absolutely anything by Daniel Jose Older. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. If you want to go down the romance path, Sarah MacLean and Courtney Milan. 8y
Oldschool_millenial Carrie by Stephen King, audiobook read by Sissy Spacek. It blew me away 8y
mischa Some more! Mighty Be Our Powers; The Last Girlfriend on Earth; An Untamed State; The New Jim Crow; Only Ever Yours; The Beautiful Struggle. 8y
LornaDH My latest 5 star read was 8y
SoniaC Loved Dark Matter 8y
julesG Loved this book. Found it while on a book hangover. It cured the hangover. And the second novel was published a few days ago. 8y
Moray_Reads Moonglow by Michael Chabon, The Light and the Dark by Mikhail Shishkin, The Tidal Zone by Sarah Moss, Hag-Seed By Margaret Atwood. ❤ All of them 8y
LeanneAslin I enjoyed Kindred by Octavia Butler, and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. 8y
ReadingEnvy I enjoyed this one because of the unique characters and setting 8y
krismac Books by Cecelia Ahern always put a smile on my face! Start with Love Rosie. It's so much fun you can't put it down! 8y
Seonjoon I'm reading The Life-changing Art of not giving a fuck, and it's a romp that has me laughing; I'm also reading a collection of short stories by China Miéville that are fascinating and quick reads. In nonfiction, I really enjoyed Black Flags; it's timely and helpful in understanding the current news. Best wishes for moving through the slump! 8y
PoetKoala I'm completely sucked into A Court of Thorns and Roses (YA Beauty and the Beast kinda), so if you're looking for easy plot-driven, I highly recommend. Also A Visit from the Goon Squad. Short chapters, great characters. Stay strong! 8y
abcdemerli I've never ever read The Book Thief and had it feel like a chore for me. It's one of my go to stories when I'm in a book slump 8y
GirlMeetsBook I broke a slump a while ago with Sara Bareilles' Sounds Like Me (memoir). 8y
Suet624 My Life With Eleanor... 8y
CaitlinSiem I just finished the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness. I loved that one. I've also been hooked on a reread of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor. It's a favorite of mine. I would highly recommend either trilogy. 8y
LitHousewife News of the World and High Fidelity were books I've loved so far this year. 8y
britt_brooke @BookishFeminist 👍🏻👍🏻 8y
steph_hashes_tags Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan - it's got great pacing, lovely characters, and warm relationships, plus it's just plain good. I think it'd make a great slump-buster! 8y
jessberk13 If my boyfriend hasn't come home early last night I would've finished in one sitting - 8y
Reviewsbylola I have had three favorites this year so far. All five stars. First up was 8y
Reviewsbylola Then, if you are a fan of historical fiction and interested in the Titanic, this was fascinating. 8y
Reviewsbylola Lastly, one of the best fictional characters I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. 8y
Megabooks This was my first 5🌟 of the year. Not upbeat though, but sometimes I want hard when I'm depressed. 8y
Elisa I'm sorry you are going through a hard time. My husband is battling cancer so I understand the need for escape and something engaging and entertaining. The ones that fit the bill best for me these past few months have been (linked below, can only tag one book per comment, sorry) 8y
Elisa Read the whole series, recommend it. 8y
Elisa Bonus: gorgeous covers. Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy! 8y
pppooraikul This book got me out of my reading slump but maybe you've read it already. Good luck finding the right one! 8y
lauralovesbooks1 Gentleman in Moscow was amazing. Also --I'm almost done with Unseen World and it has been riveting. 8y
Magslhalliday I loved this book, and sent it to a friend for Xmas too: 8y
tysephine This was the one that really got to me most recently. 8y
mylittlecabbage I was in a book rut a while back where I couldn't get into anything and I couldn't finish anything I started. And then I read ^ and was finally able to read again because it was so unlike the books I had been trying to force myself to read. 8y
ness My favourite recent comfort read is Sorcerer to the Crown. It's like feminist Jane Austen with magic. 8y
moranadatter Roses and Rot by Kat Howard 8y
Shvonne The Night Circus and The Thirteenth Tale always works for me 8y
rjsthumbelina Most fun I have had in a book in a long time! 8y
BookishClaire The Walls Around Us grabbed me and wouldn't let me go (edited) 8y
Weaponxgirl The two books that got me last year were white teeth by zadie smith, I thought her wit was excellent and we have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson. I'm a sucker for a good dark gothic tale with unhinged characters 8y
dylanisreading I read this last summer but I still think about it sometimes. 8y
BookishFeminist @BooksForEmpathy @cinfhen Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
BookishFeminist @Yamich49 Thanks lady! That means a lot. ❤️ I'm sure I'll find something soon. Thank god I'm not in a reading slump and can actually read!! My depression will hopefully lift soon, it's a mix of stress, winter slump, & politics (I can't escape it at all in DC). I think I mostly just need an actual vacation, lol. I will def hit you up if I need it 😘 8y
BookishFeminist @alisonrose Perfect! I haven't read any of those but they've all been on my list forever and I even own most of them. Thank you!! 8y
BookishFeminist @BookNerdBritt Oh shit, what'd he do?! Serpent King's been on my list a while though so I'll def pick it up soon. Thank you!! 8y
BookishFeminist @Chachic Oh I love urban fantasy! Def willing to give it a go, thanks for the rec!! 8y
BookishFeminist @Oldschool_millenial Carrie is excellent! I haven't heard the audio but that sounds perfect next time I need something good. Thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @mischa DJO is fantastic! I actually just ordered the last 2 books in his current series so that's high on my list. Ari & Dante is great & I need to catch up on Sarah Maclean & try Courtney Milan. :) I have a few of the others on my shelf too. Thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @LornaDH I've been eying that one, thank you!! @SoniaC I have Dark Matter on my shelf waiting for the perfect opportunity. Now might be it! Thank you! @julesG oh awesome, I haven't heard of that one before but I'll have to give it a shot. Thank you! (edited) 8y
BookishFeminist @Moray_Reads Those all sound fantastic, thank you! I've been looking for the right moment for Moonglow too. @LeanneAslin Kindred is so good! We read that for litsy feminist book club a couple months back. I have Thirteenth Tale on my shelf & other Octavia Butlers though! @Dragon I've never heard of the eight but it looks great. Thank you! @ReadingEnvy That's been on my list and I keep forgetting about it, thanks for reminding me! 8y
BookishFeminist @krismac I'll have to give her a shot since I never have and keep meaning to. Thank you! @Seonjoon 😂😂 I love life-changing magic & gave it to a friend last xmas who needs to give less fucks. China Mieville is a fave of mine so maybe that'll be the way to go. I have Black Flags on audio too but waiting a while since politics is a major contributor to my depression right now 😒 I can't wait for that to lift though bc it looks excellent. 8y
BookishFeminist @PoetKoala Those all look great. I have Goon Squad on my shelf. And thank you! 💓 @abcdemerli Book Thief is one of my faves and helped me out of a book slump a while back. Such a great read. @GirlMeetsBook I might have to pick up her memoir now. I'd been hearing mixed reviews of it so it hasn't been on my radar much. @Suet624 That sounds great, thank you! @CaitlinSiem oh I've been meaning to try daughter of smoke and bone, thank you! 8y
BookishFeminist @LitHousewife I haven't read High Fidelity yet, but it sounds great! Thanks! I agree News of the World was great. @steph_hashes_tags That's sitting on my shelf, so perfect. Thank you! @jessica I need to get to my arc of that one anyway. 😀 thank you!! @Reviewsbylola Those are all great suggestions and I have 2 of them from BOTM. Perfect. Thank you! @Ebooksandcooks I enjoyed Speak! You get it- I need hard when I'm depressed 😀 8y
BookishFeminist @Elisa I am so sorry to hear your husband is battling cancer. ❤️ That's rough. Sending strength & good vibes. Thank you for suggestions, these have been on my list. Let me know if you ever need any escapist reads! @pppooraikul Thank you! It's been sitting on my shelf for far too long and think I'll have to dust it off. @lauralovesbooks1 Thanks for the suggestions! I have Gentleman in Moscow & have been meaning to try unseen world. 8y
BookishFeminist @Magslhalliday Boy Snow Bird is so good! I've been pimping that book out since I read it. @tysephine I agree, that's a good one! I really enjoyed it last year. Thank you! @mylittlecabbage Mindy Kaling is great. Her memoirs are so relatable & I loved her first one! @paperbytheton That's been on my list way too long looking for the right moment. Thank you! @kmdartist Been looking for the right moment to read Roses & Rot. Thank you! 8y

Thanks for the suggestion! @BookishClaire just bought that on kindle the other day. Perfect suggestion, thank you! @Weaponxgirl We have always lived in the castle is one of my all-time favorites ❤️ I have white teeth and haven't gotten to it yet, so perfect! 8y
BookishFeminist @bianca That was one of my fave reads last year. I listened on audio and the narrator is perfect too!! 8y
GirlMeetsBook @BookishFeminist I'm a pretty big Sara B fan so I enjoyed getting to know more about her and her history, but I also felt like it was an easy read that felt more natural than when I read Yes, Please! By Amy Poehler. 8y
BookNerdBritt @BookishFeminist His book has a single one-star review on Amazon, and he and his Twitter followers ridiculed the reviewer by going through her Amazon purchase history and making fun of her for giving 5 stars to other things (...because if she doesn't like his book, she's not allowed to like anything?) - it was gross. But I loved the book 😕 8y
BookishFeminist @BookNerdBritt Oh, damn. That's messed up. Why is he reading negative reviews anyway if he's going to take offense to them? I hate when authors act up and then they have a good book. No karma. Hope he learns from that experience. 8y
Aquedita Have you read "Bodies of Water" already? Highly recommend it. Read it in one sitting. 8y
BookishFeminist @Aquedita I haven't! By who? 8y
Aquedita @BookishFeminist By V. H. Leslie. Part haunted house story, part a feminist look at the history of women's health, asylums and sex work. 8y
BookishFeminist @Aquedita That sounds right up my alley, thank you! 8y
MissAlyssHearts @BookishFeminist The best book I've read recently was Jane Eyre, but I'm a hopeless romantic. If you want a book that will suck you in , I'd suggest (edited) 8y

Littens send strength! Embarking on an 8 day road trip tomorrow (with two children, gah!) AND I have a terrible cold. AND I don't know what books to pack. I'm not crying. You're crying! 🙊😭😭😭😅😷🤒

DGRachel Good luck & feel better!! 8y
Megabooks Oh dear! Best of luck, and I hope you feel better soon! 8y
RiotMom Oh jeez. All of the luck! Safe travels and feel better! 8y
See All 22 Comments
LeahBergen Oh man! 😬 You poor thing. Make sure you pack some light, fun reads ... and headphones or earplugs!! 8y
GlitteryOtters Oh no!! Best of luck!! Take lots of the yummiest liquids and snacks (thing I learned from my cross country road trip this spring: we packed too much water & not enough delicious beverages) and lots of tissues. Try to rest as much as you can (hard to do, I know!). I hope the cold leaves quickly & you will be able to enjoy the trip, not just survive it. Hang in there and I hope you feel better soon! 8y
britt_brooke Oh no, feel better!! 8y
rachellayown I hope you feel better! Good luck! 8y
Grrlbrarian Sending good wishes that the trip goes better than you fear. And lots of healing vibes that your cold gets better FAST! 8y
Ruri_kaichou Hang in there! Hopefully, it will only last a few days. Vicks, hot tea, and Mucinex D. Audiobooks so you can tune everyone out and keep your eyes closed. Good luck! 8y
Sue Good luck! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Maybe some audiobooks you can all listen too? 8y
ginarae3 Haha I see your boob light! When light fixtures have nipples it makes me laugh. Feel better! 8y
Carol I'm sick and facing a road trip as well, not with kids but for work which is its own bag of problems. Solidarity and hope we're both feeling better soon! 8y
Chessa @DGRachel @Ebooksandcooks @RiotMom @LeahBergen @GlitteryOtters @britt_brooke @rachellayown @Grrlbrarian @Ruri_kaichou @Sue @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Thank you guys SO much for your kind words! We have made it through our first day of travels - about 10 hours of driving done, after several hours of packing/cleaning. So glad to be in my hotel bed! Tissues still hanging out of my nose, but I think I've turned the corner. 👍🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y
Chessa @ginarae3 Booby light FTW! We giggled with our realtor about them when we were looking. 😂 8y

Help: A One-act Play | David G. Grote

Help me, Littens! I did an Amazon promotion thingy a while ago where I got three months of free Audible - and it's expiring tomorrow (and I'm too supremely cheap to pay for it when my library has Axis 360 and Overdrive). I have three credits burning a hole in my virtual pocket! The titles above are things I'm interested in that my library doesn't have - anyone know if these are good on audio? I'm also open to great audio suggestions! TIA. 😘

LeahBergen Someone on here was saying that As You Wish was really good on audio (if that helps!) 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat This is the only one on your list I've listened to and it's excellent! 👍 8y
Owlizabeth As You Wish was a fantastic listen. I've heard the narrator for HEX is not great. 8y

Chessa @LeahBergen I think it was @BarbaraTheBibliophage! That one is almost certainly going to be one of the three. I'm leaning toward How to Make White People Laugh, too. But the third is pretty up in the air. 8y
Well-ReadNeck I enjoyed As You Wish on Audiobook Also loved particularly on audiobook: Sleeping Giant; The Nix; and The Whites 8y
Chessa @Owlizabeth Perfect. Thank you so much! I really would hate to waste a credit on a not-great narrator. I'll read that one in print. 👍🏻 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat If you haven't read/listened to Sleeping Giants, that's one of my favorite audiobooks. Full cast narration. 8y
Chessa @Well-ReadNeck @Books_Wine_Repeat I did read Sleeping Giants in print and LOVED IT. Full cast narration is intriguing though! 8y
Chessa @BookishFeminist Awesome! That one is definitely on my short-short list. 😂👍🏻 8y
BookishFeminist Robin Miles is the narrator for The Good House and she's a great narrator - I've heard great things about the book too & love Tananarive Due. It's on my audible wish list. You really won't regret How to Make White People Laugh, especially if your library doesn't have it. A trove of us on here think it's the funniest thing we've ever listened to & it's super educational too. 8y
MorganNotMegan Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea!! Super haunting and suspenseful and a great book. 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat Not on your list, but Neil Gaiman narrating is the best! 8y
Chessa @BookishFeminist Oh excellent to know re: Robin Miles! Thx! I'm totally going to get HtMWPL. I can't believe my library doesn't have it! I've suggested it via Overdrive, but it's been months. 8y
Chessa @MorgansMenagerie Cool, I'll definitely check that out! 8y
bookwrm526 I loved Hex but do NOT recommend the audio. I got used to it, but the narrator sounded like he was announcing a gameshow 8y
Chessa @Books_Wine_Repeat I'm definitely bookmarking that one! Love Gaiman. My library has that one, so I'll queue it up soon. 👍🏻 8y
Chessa @bookwrm526 Oh dear, that sounds way less than ideal! I think I'll plan to ILL that one in print once it's at least six months old (that's my library's rule 😜). 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Well I've heard great things about How to Make White People Laugh on audio, and I LOVED As You Wish on Audio, it's narrated by the cast of the movie. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Otherwise, if your library doesn't have them...consider these 3 suggestions: Troublemaker, it's read by the author and very powerful. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa And finally the excellent 8y
Chessa @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Rad, my library has Troublemaker! Bookmarking it right now. Sounds awesome. 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sorry to complicate your choices. #bookishproblems 8y
Chessa @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Actually my library has all three! Yay, bookmarking all three, thanks! ❤️ 8y
becausetrains One more 👍🏻 to How to Make White People Laugh! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Chessa you are welcome....whew! At least I didn't complicate your decision too much. 😀 8y
Chessa @Riveted_Reader_Melissa No, this is a great problem. It's my favorite problem ever. I love too many options! ❤️ 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Also, just a tip... Use your credits and then when you quit, use price as your reason....when I did that they offered me 3 more months at 1/2 price...which I gladly accepted! Plus, if you haven't received any one time only free 'try it' books... One of us might be able too send you one of these. They only allow one received per account though. 8y
Chessa @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Cool, I will definitely list price as the reason (because it's totally true!) Thanks! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Chessa ..and have you received any, I think the call it a one try book from anyone yet? 8y
Chessa @Riveted_Reader_Melissa OMG! You're the best! Thanks so much, it totally worked! ❤️❤️❤️ 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa 👍. And now one more book for you to pick! 😉 8y
ErikasMindfulShelf Behold the Dreamers was excellent on audio! Get it!! 8y
Chessa @irre Oooh! Good idea!! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I'm late to the party, but yes I loved As You Wish on audio. I have a GR shelf for audio, so you look there for other recommendations. 😎 8y
