Amandajoy I had to travel in weather like this before Christmas with my step kids. We listened to Harry Potter, it‘s fun and I know the story so if I missed parts I wasn‘t lost. Plus Jin Dale is fantastic. 4y

(grumble) I‘ve been obsessively checking my myTBR account for my next set of recommendations. I already have The Map of Salt and Stars on my shelf and planned to read it next year for #ReadingAsia2021 (Syria). The other two look really good, but here‘s my grumble. I have another new bibliologist - no warning, no explanation, and I‘m left worrying that I did something or said something that made my last (3) bibliogist dump me. 😭😭 *sigh*

DGRachel @Reggie Maybe, but I miss the relationship that forms when you have the same Bibliologist for more than a year. That person learns more about you through feedback. Today‘s recommendations don‘t seem to have taken past feedback into account. It makes me sad. 4y

Hooked_on_books I suspect it has nothing to do with you personally, but I do think it‘s an excellent idea to give them this feedback. I would hope they would want to make the service as good as possible for those using it and would welcome this kind of constructive feedback. For what it‘s worth, The Golden Thread is quite interesting if a little repetitive. The core story in it is fascinating. 4y

The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus

Okay #TeamSlaughter! I have a question for you. Can anyone recommend a horror or thriller/suspense of any age group that has a setting at a circus or has creepy clowns? I have a few prompts I‘d like to cross off, but I‘m not having any luck finding anything on CloudLibrary.

The only ones I know about are It, and Clown in a Cornfield, but my library doesn‘t have them available. Thanks!

MrBook For laughter, I always recommend “The Rosie Project”, especially on audio if possible. “The Sisters Brothers” and “A Million Ways To Die in the West” also made me laugh a lot. 🤠 (edited) 5y

I‘m pretty excited about the first two in particular, but I‘m also trying not to take personally the fact that my bibliologist has apparently changed w/o notice or explanation. Did I inadvertently insult the first one? Was I just so picky that they gave up on me? *sigh*

ImperfectCJ I really liked the recs I got the few months I did the Book Riot TBR, and I've been thinking about signing up again, but I want to figure out a way to explain it to people that doesn't result in them saying, "You mean you pay someone to tell you what to read?" 5y

Atwood‘s new book The Testaments (continuation of Handmaid‘s Tale) is the biggest, though I haven‘t read it yet. A memorable recent YA was With the Fire on High (Acevedo). I loved the drama/mystery Miracle Creek (Kim) over the summer. And The Overdue Life of Amy Byler was fun, nerdy, charming, and full of book-loving characters! Enjoy! 6y

2/3. All of these subjects he‘s asking about are quite broad, to say the least, lol. So, I‘ve recommended to him general surveys and some of the most pivotal material in philosophy. As for history, well, that‘s huge 😆! Broad surveys it is, so he gets the entire world‘s history through ~1500, and then bits and pieces thereafter, with a focus on his own country of America, touching on many world events 1700s-2010.

rwmg TBH I wouldn't recommend Hume: A Very Short Introduction. It's based on a series of lectures Ayer gave expounding his views on Hume rather than an introduction to Hume.

MrBook @rwmg That‘s totally fine 😊, I think 10 librarians would offer 10 different lists, lol. Besides a couple of Hume‘s actual works, it was this or the Hume installment in the “in 90 Minutes” series, which is a meh series to me. 🙈 6y

Which books should he start with? (I also offered podcasts for him too as a bonus.) Some books we have, some we don‘t. AnneCecilie @Libby1 no, I‘ve never been there before, but from the pictures I think I‘ll love it. I‘ll be staying Friday to Sunday. It‘s with my job so there will be some group things, but we tend to get some hours on Saturday and Sunday until the flight, to use as we want. 6y

AnneCecilie @Libby1 since you‘ve been there before you probably don‘t need me to tell you how charming the city is. I really enjoyed the food we had. We had burgers at Cafe De V Delft, lunch (gorgeous chicken) at Bierfabriek Delft and dinner at Van dear Dussen (I know some didn‘t enjoy the starter as much, we had something cod, but the meat was fantastic). I don‘t know anything about the prices since my employer paid it all. 6y

Hey everyone! I have a favor to ask of you! I have recently become obsessed with two Lifetime movies where detectives play a huge role. It could be the actor that appears in both that has caused this... but back to my favor. I would love any recommendations for detective romance books. Eve Dallas and Roarke is the romance part of the books, she‘s a Detective with the New York Police Department; the series is set in the future, but don‘t let that stop you from reading at least a couple of them. An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness

LegosAndPajamas “January First” is a great (and sad) story of a family‘s struggle to diagnose their young daughter, who suffers from early onset schizophrenia. “Let‘s Pretend This Never Happened” is also fantastic (and hilarious!) memoir about a woman who grew up in an unstable home and, as a result, lived a fairly unstable life. Her sequel, “Furiously Happy” is also great on sad days! (edited) 6y
